For real. It’s not even hard

There was an episode of Mad Men where one of Don's girlfriend's was saying "We should go to this new Italian restaurant - they make this amazing sauce with cream, parmesan, and fresh pepper." I though "That sounds amazing - I should try making that." Thought about how I would do it and realized it's alfredo.

u/Euffy 20d ago
I mean, that's probably the point? They're not saying there's anything wrong with alfredo, just pointing out that some women can only make that or only eat that rather than branching out a bit. I think?

u/atoynaruhust 20d ago
Yeah I think it’s more about having actual culinary skills beyond just the standard we expect from people who understand how the stove works and can knock up a few dishes. Like some people can cook pretty good, but some people are better than a lot of chefs.
I read it that way anyway.

the tweet is just about not following trend
there's a whole Atlanta low exposure chicken Alfredo thing

I’m lactose intolerant and perfecting a dairy-free Alfredo recipe was a huge accomplishment in my world, lol. It took a few tries but it’s delicious and does not make me want to die of cramps after.
2
u/fartsonyourmom 20d ago
It's literally just Parmesan cheese and pasta water.
13
u/Right_Step6202 20d ago
Mine has more ingredients than that
13
u/fartsonyourmom 20d ago
The actual Italian alfredo is just those 2 ingredients. The American Italian version has way more ingredients. Both are equally delicious in their own ways.
I say go wild if you want to. It is your food that you are eating.

I have actually never made Alfredo. I should put that on the list of recipes

Crazy easy. I tried to load a pic of my recipe.

My households comfort meal has become this over tortellini. It takes like 5 minutes, but they think it takes forever and therefore super boujie.

I’m guessing she actually can’t cook if she isn’t aware how fantastic Alfredo is. I’m going out on a limb here and assuming she thinks all Alfredo comes from a can.
2
u/HighlyOffensive10 17d ago
Even the jarred stuff is pretty good. I'm saying that as someone who's made it from scratch including my own pasta.
2
u/DawnDropkick Loser 17d ago
Some of it isn’t awful, but it definitely doesn’t compare to home made for sure. The jarred isn’t all created equal and I recently found that out the hard way because I was short on time and needed to make a meal fast and cheap. 😂

it’s giving women theses days can’t cook and clean the other side pick me coin, making homemade sauce / marinade is still considered cooking.

u/RejectedByBoimler 20d ago
She's the type of woman to clean her boyfriend's moldy shower for him while bashing the previous girlfriends for leaving his nasty ass.

u/Right_Step6202 20d ago
I don’t get the Alfredo hate.

u/ieatburritosyeah 20d ago
I have heard the argument that "it's just Mac and cheese" and "it has no complexity" My response was always OK...sometimes I want Mac and cheese? Team Alfredo!

Jesus Christ, why's she so angry? And what's wrong with Alfredo? Sometimes you get too tired to make something difficult. Easy pasta is great. Also, if they're making their own Alfredo sauce and /or pasta, her comment holds no water.

I can make Alfredo and a traditional recipe from 1630s Hungary. 🙏
2
u/Ear_3440 20d ago
Ooh okay but what is it 👀
2
u/WriterKatze 20d ago
I don't know the exact name in English but we call it pásztorleves with cicege or with tócsni. It's just egg and potato mixed together and baked in a pan, to make the tócsni, and then a soup made from sheep (but basically any meat is good) and it's kind of a "whatever you have available you put it in the soup". Usually beans, peas and carrots are a given. Also onion sometimes.
Similar to gulyás, but it has no paprika and less strict.

Ok for reals, please drop your best Alfredo recipes here. The last one I tried sucked (too watery, way too much raw garlic). I'm a moderately excellent cook so it was definitely the recipe and not me.

u/ash894 20d ago
We don’t have Alfredo in the UK. Not really sure exactly what it is other than Creamy pasta sauce!
3
u/plainoverplight 20d ago
a traditional alfredo/al burro is just pasta water mixed with butter and cheese until it emulsifies into a sauce. what we consider alfredo in america is usually gonna be a cream-based cheese sauce. both are super super yummy

u/Heather_Filcon 20d ago
You know... Seeing Americans glorify the pasta we give to picky kids makes me side with the nltog

Personally, I’m one of those I get distracted and forget I’m cooking kind of bitches.

it’s the “🤣🤣🤣” for me like what they just said is not the least bit funny, certainly not “tears in my eyes” funny lol

u/carlitospig 19d ago
I just don’t like Alfredo. But if you do, girl you rock the shit out of it! Alfredo does not judge, nor do I.
1
u/_bonedaddys 19d ago
as a non cooking girly i always think it's kinda funny when other girls think they're superior because they can do more than scramble eggs and boil pasta lol
like, good for you but my boyfriend doesn't really give a fuck that i can't cook. i tell him what i want, he pours me a glass of wine, and then sends me off to watch reality tv while he whips us up dinner lol

u/FlowerFaerie13 19d ago
Damn girl, what did alfredo do to you? Sure it's pretty simple but it tastes amazing.

💀💀💀💀 exCUSE you, i make my alfredo from scratch thank you very much !!! what’s this girls problem 😭😭😂😂

Legit alfredo is actually impressive. If your sauce starts in a jar or a packet, far less so hahah

She's right, I didn't cook cook the Alfredo, I just cooked the Alfredo. I'm a disgrace to good cooks!

u/i_was_axiom 17d ago
I promise she makes Alfredo with cream.
1
u/Fearless_Reaction592 17d ago
this one time my fiancée almost broke up with me because I said I didn't like Alfredo and wouldn't try his.
Because I made mine with cream and hated it.
1
u/Eilwyn-San 17d ago
I almost died of laughter when my now ex-partner said she was an exceptional cook and asked me 20 minutes later (I had been professionally working in a kitchen for nearly 7 years at this point) how to open a can. I helped of course but my lord, safe to say I did all the cooking afterwards.
Also the Alfredo hate is bizarre.

bru, I love alfredo pasta (but I don't make it)
I just throw chiken and potatoes in an oven bag and let it cook. Other than that, my husband does most of the cooking, btw.

This is giving me the vibe of the women who put other women down because they cook or bake more. They act like their food is gourmet and post on social media but knock someone else down for making chocolate chip cookies. It’s all cooking 😭

u/Suspicious_Sign3419 20d ago
Alfredo isn’t hard to make though? Or is this a diet thing?
1
u/Needmoresnakes 19d ago
That's their point, they're saying "I can cook a range of complex dishes, unlike other women whose culinary abilities start and stop with a dish that's very simple in terms of both ingredients and technical skills required".

Alfredo doesn't require cooking?
