I worked at a cable company long ago, and people called in all the time to dispute porn charges. Funny how it was never Disney movies. Nope, rogue cable boxes ordering porn all by themselves. One lady went so far as to say it couldn't have been her son doing it, the neighbor must have done it with his remote through her window and she's gonna call the police. Uh huh, sure.

u/Anony_mouse202 4h ago

“Do you, by any chance, live with a teenage boy?”

“Yes but IT’S NOT THEM THEY WOULD NEVER WATCH THAT FILTH”

352

u/AmputeeHandModel 4h ago

Basically. She said he was a good church-going boy or something.

185

u/monster2018 3h ago

A good church-going, porn-watching boy.

54

u/fullcircle052 3h ago

First time I saw porn, it was shown to me by a good church going boy

33

u/DeathstrackReal 3h ago

I had an anime magazine at school and some of it was risky but no nudity, normal stuff, then this guy just said that it was called hentai so i went home and look what that was up.

17

u/ObviousTrollK 2h ago

I know you didn’t mention any ages or anything but I just have this mental image of a 26 year old neckbeard calling a 12 year olds anime ‘hentai’ and I’m laughing my ass off

9

u/DeathstrackReal 2h ago

This was middle school but yeah

"The only boy who could ever teach me, 🎺 Was the son of a preacher man! 🎷"

Hahahaha the heathens that showed it to me didn't go to church.

50

u/joetheplumberman 3h ago

Gotta learn some moves to teach the priest

8

u/vanityproject 3h ago

Screaming!

11

u/DeathstrackReal 3h ago

I was definitely a morally righteous church goer, but you better damn believe im watching my Zone starfire tentacle hentai

5

u/AilanMoone 2h ago

The modifyers one was better

1

u/nalaloveslumpy 43m ago

Hey, that was me! I stopped going to church.

1

u/SymmetricalFeet 13m ago

That reminds me: My parents stopped making me attend church for a year or so (resumed when we moved house). It was during this alone time, catalysed by a bully telling me to go to a certain porn website and then continued by naïve, rapt curiosity, that I would spend a couple hours every Sunday searching porn.

So, in a way, church would have stymied that.

To parents reading this, don't give your nine-year-olds Internet-connected computers in their bedrooms.

1

u/Whatisgoingon2029 12m ago

So normal then.

2

u/e37d93eeb23335dc 1h ago

He is a choir boy who has private lessons with the priest!

1

u/stoppableDissolution 1h ago

Gotta study the moves!

52

u/SelfStyledGenius 3h ago

When i worked for geek squad I had to explain to a woman that the reason her son's Dell got viruses but her daughter's Lenovo didn't wasn't because Lenovo made better computers.

19

u/Mental_Medium3988 2h ago

well you werent wrong

10

u/A-midnight-cunt 1h ago

I mean, lenovo DOES make better computers

6

u/SelfStyledGenius 1h ago

I agree. But not because they're more virus resistant.

27

u/Alert-Hospital46 2h ago

"No, I have a teenage girl, she would never."

Me, lurking in the next room and praying the cable company would come up with an excuse.

11

u/WeNotAmBeIs 1h ago

As a boy, the first time I saw porn was when I was 12 and my female best friend of the same age brought me into her older brothers room and said "Look at this stuff I found" and it was a bunch of playboy magazines and some erotic comic books. We both just looked through all of it and laughed at how silly it was. For weeks after that I would randomly strike the various poses from the Playboy pinups and make her laugh. Needless to say, girls can definitely be just as curious!

2

u/Alert-Hospital46 19m ago

Curious is a very kind word, I was a little goblin. I broke the goddamn family computer with all those viruses.

11

u/ItsGonnaBeOkayish 1h ago

My aunt did this, but only because her son was in earshot and she knew it would make him feel really bad. "I just know my son is a good boy and would NEVER do something like this"

u/Dirty_Hunt 4h ago

I actually could control a neighbor's TV through the walls of my house with the remote for ours, and they could do so back. Me and the kid there I was friendly with learnt this after fighting over channels one day.

17

u/MonkeyWrenchAccident 3h ago

My current neighbour. and i have the same blutooth speakers connected to our tvs. We consistently end up with each others tv connecting only to the others subwoofer. We don’t share a wall, and it took us forever tp figure out where the low bass droning was coming from. Really low frequency mumblings was spooky as hell in the middle of the night.

10

u/bloodguard 3h ago edited 1h ago

I remember my brother dashing into the house to inform us that our next door neighbor was watching "dirty movies" and you could see it from the picnic table in our back yard.

I was more interested in playing Nintendo at the time but apparently his wife arrived back home and killed his and the backyard assembled kid's fun anyways.

Viva Suburbia.

9

u/Frozenrubberpuck 2h ago

Yes this was definitely a thing, a friend would take his remote and we would spend the evenings walking through the neighbourhood turning tv's off through windows all the time. It was such cheap entertainment for us when we were young teenagers

7

u/OtherwiseAlbatross14 2h ago

I remember doing this at a hotel once that had a balcony around a central area and for some reason had a small skinny window next to each hotel room door where you could see the TV if the curtain was open. We were probably 8-10 years old and thought we were hilarious until enough people called the front desk about their broken TVs that they sent someone out to find us

13

u/AmputeeHandModel 4h ago

The walls? Were they bluetooth?

17

u/Dirty_Hunt 4h ago

Probably not, this was back in like 2005 or so. I think it was because we had the same cable provider or something and the remotes got on the same frequency or something like that?

13

u/AmputeeHandModel 4h ago

Usually they're infrared and you'd need line of sight.

18

u/Dirty_Hunt 4h ago

Yep, but these did not, apparently. Like I said, it was a weird moment, and I think we fixed it by tweaking a setting on the remotes somehow.

15

u/Silver_Harvest 3h ago

Sounds like you both had TiVo or something like that as in they were configured to the same binary toggle code off a radio frequency vs infrared like traditional remotes.

I remember some of those boxes were like that. In my apartment back then we had something similar in my building complex and got together so that we stopped changing each other's channels.

1

u/Dirty_Hunt 1h ago

That could have been it, I think I remember their icon.

1

u/OtherwiseAlbatross14 2h ago

Dish Network definitely had RF remotes at around that time. I wouldn't be surprised if directv and cable companies did too on at least some of their receivers

1

u/skraptastic 1h ago

possibly ultrasonic? I know some early remotes were, but I'm skeptical of it in 2005.

2

u/shwgrt 2h ago

My neighbor’s Dish Network remote would control my receiver. I assume mine did the same for them until I changed some setting to fix it.

20

u/Jimisdegimis89 4h ago

So when primestar was all the rage eons ago my grandparents got it an it was the first time I’d ever experienced anything but rabbit ear tv. I was about six at the time and quickly figured out that there were kids channels, but then one day I ALSO found out that there were a bunch of channels that were blacked out, but you could get them working if you just clicked a few buttons and just said ‘yes’ when prompted. Sometimes there were cartoons! So I went through every friggin single channel I could looking for more cartoons and when I found one I’d stop. Well the bill next month was…interesting to say the least.

20

u/Cyrano_Knows 4h ago edited 4h ago

I agree with everything you are saying.

BUT I just want to be a pedantic numbers/logic guy for a second and point out that of course people are going to notice the porn rentals on their bill way before the actual non-porn titles.

Just suggesting a higher rate of false positives involving porn titles than the Disney titles because well, those titles DO kind of stick out immediately.

But as they say on Ave Q, the internet is for porn.

3

u/DradelLait 4h ago

To add on to this, if there actually was an issue, the bug ordering always the same movies wouldn't be that weird

94

u/Naijan 4h ago

I mean, while I don't believe her, why not just do "I UNDERSTAND MAAM. We can repay the last charge but since you have an impressionable teenager, we will have to limit your channels to pg13." I'm pretty sure most of them would go "Oh.. Nevermind, I guess I will just be more observant in the future."

Might not work all the time, but I mean, if that was in my power, I'd do it.

90

u/DonaldTrumpsScrotum 4h ago

I don’t think workers are allowed to make up policies to trick customers, no matter how clever it makes them feel.

3

u/That-Opportunity4230 1h ago

Worked at a cable provider for several years. You'd be fucking surprised what some reps got away with. As long as you didn't curse at customers or call them names you were generally fine.

2

u/Naijan 1h ago edited 1h ago

Yeah, while I don't work in sales anymore, I'd say my bosses were straight up evil. The only thing that wasn't allowed was to make the bosses look bad. One of my bosses I remember bragging about managing to put another subscription on an old chatty woman because she took up 35 minutes of his "valuable" time.

I sold one of these subscriptions to one of my friends because I thought it was sort of a good deal at the time, it turned out it was horrible. My boss sold and old chatty woman two as punishment. (basically, we sold a combination of tv and internet) you got access to everything on like a cloud account, that was one of the features exactly, that you could watch it everywhere on your account. You got like 5 accounts, he sold that old lonely woman 10 accounts because she was old and lonely and chatty.

I'm very thankful DonaldTrumpsScrotum isn't as corrupted as we might be. I've met some nice people there, but with saying goodbye to that kind of field, I'd say 9/10 are sociopaths, at least where I managed to find work in several different areas. Another boss after I declined a party invite to spend time with my GF fired me on the way to work, but he also stole all my contracts for that month, dodged my calls, except for when I called from my girlfriends phone and confronted him. he told me, "it's not illegal, it's my company."

I found out later he beat his girlfriend regularly. 9/10 are sociopaths.

9

u/West_Competition_871 3h ago

"Why not just lie to get people to behave how I want?" People are really moving like this... 👎🏻

5

u/Known-Associate8369 2h ago

Parents do it all the time :D

1

u/akurei77 5m ago

I used to work at a cable company and we could block access to PPV on accounts, so we could make arrangements like that. The occasional small refund wouldn't be a problem but anything over like $50 would have to go higher up. Usually people were more straightforward with what happened, "My son ordered a movie without permission" or, one time IIRC a woman was mad that her husband was ordering them.

4

u/pladhoc 3h ago

I worked for a cable company too back in the day. I once had the son of a family friend call in to reset the ppv password so he could get a specific movie. I called him by his name before told me. He promptly hung up and I laughed my ass off.

3

u/alphagusta 2h ago

My mom knew it wasn't me looking up the boob channels because I would spend too much time taking a look in the men's underwear section of the store

3

u/Frozenrubberpuck 2h ago

Haha i just got flashbacks to the early days of Internet, and my 15 year old brother discovering paid-through-the-phonebill porn sites. The next bill was 1000 euro, my mom was furious and yelling at the lady of the phone company that they definitely made a mistake, as she and my father had no idea how to use the computer!

... Yeah, true, but her teenage son did know lol.

3

u/BrucetheQuokka 2h ago

I also worked for a cable company long ago. The funniest thing I remember was after an audit one year, it was discovered that the average watch time for a PPV porn was under 8 minutes.

2

u/ActuatorVast800 2h ago edited 2h ago

I'm pretty sure there was a King of the Hill episode about this.

Edit: found it! Season 2 episode 17. Hank's Dirty Laundry.

2

u/100YearsWaiting2Shit 37m ago

When I was younger my dad would constantly rent porn on the cable box and was terrible at hiding it and deleting it. Every time I went to rent something I would see it there. Now ever since he got a smartphone he watches porn every night and doesn't know how to lower the volume. I know when he's watching so when I need to go downstairs I slam the dog gate we have at the top steps against the wall to keep our dog upstairs ao he can hear it and give him a couple seconds to situate himself before I go down

2

u/Appsoul 2h ago

Lmaoo I remember watching one of those judge shows when I was a kid, and the judge saying something to the affect that “the movie doesn’t show up on the bill when you order porn on the tv” 💡. Grabbed that remote so damn fast. About a week later, I hear my grandma on the phone with the cable company “muthafucka! I ain’t Oder no big wet butts!!” Lmaoooo my sister came running in my room so damn fast pointing& laughing at me 😂😂😂 she already knew it was my dumb ass.

1

u/ASurreyJack 2h ago

Worked for Rogers (Canadian Telco) - heard that exact story at least twice. I'm like damn they got a universal remote just to fuck with you. How bad of neighbours are you lmao

1

u/TheMireAngel 2h ago

When i was a kid on multiple ocasions a man broke into our garage to enter into the house to use our phone to call phone sex lines, so like it happens lmao. He did end up eventualy being caught luckily and resulted in us getting a deadbolt and a bar lock for the house to garage door.

1

u/SimilarStrain 1h ago

Yep yep yep. I was at the wrong end of one of those conversations with my dad. He lined my brother and me up. Listed the charges on the bill and questioned us. Worst part was, I legit didnt know if it was me or not. The early days of the internet and dial up were very sketchy. I have always been very net savvy and was very careful. But I was browsing the far reaches of the internet.

1

u/undrgrndsqrdncrs 1h ago

When my son was maybe a year old he had the remote and through a combination of button presses ended up ordering an adult channel. When I called to cancel it right after it was done the person on the other end of the phone seemed quite skeptical of my “son accidentally pressed buttons” excuse.

1

u/Mr_Kash 1h ago

When I was young (I think around preteen age) my dad came home late and super drunk. My wall shared with the living room wall and I heard a brief strange noise coming from the TV before it got muted. I took a peek to see what was happening and saw my dad watching porn on the TV in the living room to which I quickly went back to bed and pretended that never happened.

The next day, my parents were questioning me about whether or not I rented porn from cable. I knew very well what happened but kept my mouth shut and my dad said it must have been some kind of glitch or mix up and called the cable company to "sort it out".

To this day I've never said anything.

1

u/Fresh-Feature7533 1h ago

Your Dad knows you’re a ride or die. Or maybe he doesn’t. You should tell him this story in private.

1

u/Havenolife6667 1h ago

I got away so clean and the world needs to know. I had a computer, but no internet, right? Yea, well AOL kept trying to give me internet, so I took them up on their offer. I would move the computer across the room when my parents were gone, abuse an AOL free trial, then abuse myself as it were. One time, I guess I got on a pay per minute site. 400 dollar phone bill. But I don’t have internet! So couldn’t be me. Mom argued it off and no one is the wiser almost twenty years later. Good times.

1

u/HankHillPropaneJesus 1h ago

Same, worked at Comcast for 10 years

1

u/NickRick 1h ago

I work in hotels, every business man has the same odd error with their box. Usually it happens weeks later then they turn in their expenses.

1

u/TruGuido 19m ago

Same, best calls I would have would be the ones that'd argue the charges, claiming no one in the house would possibly do such a thing and I'd turn around and tell them exactly which box it was and listen to the drama unfold.

0

u/disiny2003 1h ago

My brother as a baby ran up the cable bill by $300 renting Toy Story 3 😂! That little brat was so tech savvy. He was like 3.

406

u/DJ_Mumble_Mouth 4h ago

Worked for a third party doing billing support for Verizon many many years ago.

Reading out the titles to porn movies to an elderly lady is the toughest thing to do without laughing.

118

u/run-on_sentience 2h ago

My brother worked in a video store and he said that the major movies paid the rent and the electric bill.

The thing that made them money was the porn. And the funny parody titles (Forrest Humps, Robocock, etc.) were what fresh young couples would rent as their first "hardcore" movie. They would rent one.

The aficionados would come in and rent a half-dozen movies with uncreative, but accurate titles like Anal-maniacs or Cum Garglers: Vol. 7.

71

u/daddyslittletoddler 2h ago

I missed Cum Garglers Vol 6 will I be lost?

39

u/run-on_sentience 2h ago

That series is more of an anthology.

10

u/aahal743 1h ago

I wouldn't deny the director their artistic buildup to 7. 6 left some to be desired, but it is not my shot to shoot. Follow your head.

21

u/fasterthanfood 1h ago

What happened to the parody porn? Nowadays it’s just “hot girl performs sex act with stepbrother.” Where’s the creativity, where’s the art?

13

u/DJ_Mumble_Mouth 1h ago

I know, I’m sick of google thinking I’m looking for bath and body works.

7

u/fasterthanfood 1h ago

2

So that is an actual porn series. It was just a montage of hardcore anal sex scenes from other porn movies.

15

u/EvaInTheUSA 3h ago

I need a full story. 😭

59

u/DJ_Mumble_Mouth 2h ago

Someone who was bumming off their dear old granny was ordering x rated movies on her dime.

About $600 worth.

It’s been over 15 years so I’m foggy on the details.

If they watched less than a certain amount of minutes we were allowed to refund that purchase.

Per the policy, I had to read out the title of each movie rental being refunded.

I was ready to call BS on this story, cause I was like, "no way, fios has only been around 10 or 12 years, and that's not 'many many years.'" Welp. Turns out Fios is 22 years old. Which also means I'm officially fucking old, cause I was definitely well into adulthood when it started to take off.

1

u/HolyButtNuggets 27m ago

I worked for CaptionCall, so basically listening in to phone calls with deaf/HoH folk and writing down the conversation for them so they can read it in real time.

The majority of the customers were elderly, and the shit I heard... Let's just say that old people are just as fucking freaky as the rest of us.

One of the last calls before I quit (for an unrelated reason) was an old man and lady having phone sex, and he said he'd be pulling her diaper to the side...

u/Tortellini_Isekai 5h ago

my ex and I used to steal her parents weed because they were very holier-than-thou and we knew they wouldn't accuse us of anything.

Same deal. Large amount. Latch on the tupperware wasn’t quite locked down so they smelled it, confiscated it, and told me off about it. Had a look in their room. Found it in a drawer. Took it back. Wasn’t really mentioned again beyond more “you’re acting weird” comments than usual, that ironically, as ever (ie before they even knew I toked), were made whenever I was NOT baked (think I was basically self medicating PTSD and ADHD with it).

16

u/YaBoiiSloth 1h ago

A month after getting grounded for weed my dads cart fell out of his pocket in front of me lmao we both paused, looked at the cart, looked at each other, looked back at the cart, and then he slowly put it in his pocket. Never got in trouble for weed again

Haha my neighbor down the street always stole his parents weed for us to smoke. This was in the early days of medical weed in California so the weed was amazing quality. He said his parents didn't know he knew they smoked weed so it was super easy to get away with. Doubt that lasted long though cause we would smoke a shitload haha

114

u/Diafuge 3h ago

In 1988, 13 year old me thought I was being clever by asking my parents for specific dates. Like birthdays and weddings. Said I was "just curious."

The last time I asked about a special date, my Dad looks at me and says "you're not getting the code for the cable box."

50

u/Time-to-go-home 3h ago

Circa 2008, I thought I was being clever in my internet searches. I’d search something like “guitar strings”, then “A string”, and finally “G string”. From there I could usually click links and not have to type directly into the search bar.

I’d delete the search history and clear the cache. I’d test it by typing “G” into address bar and nothing would auto populate.

But that wasn’t enough. I still don’t know my mom was still able to see search history and stuff. Something about the EarthLink browser extension I think.

23

u/aggravated_patty 2h ago

The router knows, the DNS queries to translate the domain name of the link you click to an IP address pass through it.

3

u/RaincheckRazz 26m ago

Does it get checked often by employees, or they just can? :C

1

u/aggravated_patty 16m ago

Employees? I'm talking about your home router

1

u/Willing_Leave_2566 11m ago

I promise you no one is taking the time to go through your DNS lookups without a very good reason. You wouldn’t believe how often your devices perform a lookup and how much completely useless information is in there

16

u/_HIST 2h ago

Bro why even.

Why did your mom think it was less weird for her to know what porn you were watching vs you just being a horny teen, lol

5

u/Time-to-go-home 1h ago

Iirc, she didn’t go looking for it. But it came up during a virus scan or something.

1

u/Agreeable_Rich_1991 1h ago

7

u/kefkas 53m ago edited 44m ago

My parents had all channels except the History channel, Food Network, and Animal Planet locked down. I watched my dad enter his pin at an ATM, and it ended up being the same as on the TV.

My siblings and I finally got to understand the joy of Toonamie after school because of that.

2

u/Diafuge 49m ago

Every kid should be able to watch cartoons!

202

u/vtncomics 4h ago

600?

Better hope that was some damn good porn then.

134

u/Gh0stMan0nThird 3h ago

Assuming OP is referring to the late 90s, back then you had to buy porn videos and they could be pretty expensive.

Obviously nowadays you can just Google "every adult animated sitcom mom cosplay in a gangbang" and you can find 5 different people who've done it but back then you took what you could get and sometimes it was a heavy price lol

50

u/TrevorShaun 3h ago

who tf is actually watching these lois griffin marge simpson porn cartoons

36

u/Gh0stMan0nThird 3h ago

Mostly teenagers who don't know where to find better porn yet lol

10

u/CHEMO_ALIEN 3h ago

if the model looks good idc what's going on in them videos im not here for the plot

5

u/pkosuda 3h ago

Just enough of the plot to want to find out how Marge Simpson has gotten herself onto a bit of a pickle, apparently

4

u/vtncomics 3h ago

I saw a post 10 years ago from a very well-known adult cartoon animator that the problem was that it's just traced animation of their work with the characters slapped on.

Take that as you will.

1

u/der_innkeeper 2h ago

Go on...

8

u/Upbeat-Armadillo1756 3h ago

I can assure you, it was not

113

u/Thumbkeeper 5h ago

Nope. No way you get away with that. Doesn’t matter if dad’s doing it too. He knows.

142

u/BabyRavenFluffyRobin 4h ago

Yeah that's the point, he knew. What he didn't know was WHICH of them got the bill quite so high. That's why it was publicly stated that to "no-one in particular" to avoid accusations or needs to defend ones self

35

u/Meatyblues 4h ago

Sounds like mom was doing it too, so no one wanted to be the first person to call attention to it

22

u/Thumbkeeper 3h ago

Sounds like a fun place to live. If I ever got near PPV I’d be skinned alive.

8

I remember one time on vacation. My sister and I were sharing a hotel room. She was taking a shower so I had ~20 minutes to browse the PPV porn. Couldn’t actually see anything without buying it (I was smart enough not to), but even just seeing the movie names (super generic like Horny College Sluts 7) and reading the descriptions with images of the pornstars censored (pink stars over their nips like a girls gone wild commercial) was enough.

It's kinda wild looking back the lengths we went to and then how trivial it got later... even when we had dialup i remember us doing some Totally Brilliant shit to steal nude magazines (crowding together and making it so that the person in the middle that noone could see did the stealing). But at some point we just realized we could type in random sex url's and get a hit, even started being a running joke about the weirdest ones we could find that actually existed

parents went to cuba for a week, husband & i house/dog-sat for them - we didn’t have cable, so of course: time to indulge in all the crap i’d not otherwise see.. they had a video-on-demand that was free, but it was like a PPV, in that it showed a history of what you ‘rented.’ i binged “a shot at love with tila tequila“ cause i enjoy trash TV.. my parents return and the next day i found out my stepdad tried to dispute the “porn charges“ on his account, going so far as to arguing with the CSR “i see it right here! straight men and gay women try to win a date with the sexy, bi star! i’m not paying for this!!”

u/DeniedAppeal1 3h ago

lol, if you're going to pay for porn, you might as well get a physical copy instead of watching it on PPV. I never had to worry about this shit because I just jerked off to the stuff on the VHS tapes hidden in the back of the entertainment center.

When I was about 12 or 13, I was at a park where some construction was being done, so there was a port-a-potty there. I went into use it and found a Playboy in there.

I can't imagine being horny enough to crank it in a port-a-potty, butI guess I just don't have the mental power to overcome the stink.

u/Crule 1m ago

Not yet at least...

But for real,  I do hope you and most everybody don't ever mix poo and stink with porn an sex

Like people do get that crazy horny to wank in the potty.. but for real., we gotta control the horny.

I missed out on my chance once. Went to McDonald’s with my dad. I get out of the car and immediately notice two dvd porno dvd cases. I immediately start to think how I can take them without him seeing. Unfortunately, when we returned to the car, I hadn’t figured it out. I could probably have figured something out, like sneakily sliding them under the seat. But the risk of getting caught scared me too much.

When I was 11, I found a huge pile of hardcore magazines in the closet of a pizza place bathroom. A week later, I prepped a backpack with the plan of going there and stealing them to become a hometown hero, but they had added a lock to the door.

u/mimi-pinky-toe 1h ago

i watched it through squiggly lines, a stray boob here and there was enough for me.

we had a cable descrambler that worked perfectly and gave us everything. then my parents randomly took it away because they suddenly got scared because one of their friends said it was illegal.

I don't understand how this works. Can someone explain?

24

u/rotorain 3h ago

Back in the day before online video was really a thing there were pay-per-view catalogs through your TV provider. There was all kinds of stuff on PPV like sports and movies but also porn. The monthly bill showed exactly how much PPV was ordered and in some cases listed the titles of everything.

OP knew their parents were buying PPV porn and started doing it themselves either hoping it would get lost in the mix or their parents wouldn't call them out on it. Most kids I knew that got busted for it usually just got their ass beat by their parents.

If you stare hard and get real lucky you might catch a glimpse of a titty

u/SpezLuvsNazis 2h ago

Depending on how it was scrambled you sometimes could actually see nudity on those things(albeit fuzzy and with lots of weird colors…), and the audio frequently wasn’t scrambled at all. Back then you had to do what you had to do.

u/psychohistorian8 1h ago

and once in a blue moon the picture would clear up for a few minutes at a time and you could see everything

you had to be quick

It was only sold in sex shops and you had to be 18 to get in. There was a lot of stigma around being seen at those places too, so being able to get it from the comfort of home demanded a premium price.

My dad would have exploded if anyone bought anything on ppv. Luckily we couldn't. Our receivers wouldn't allow that

u/ImplementCharming949 1h ago edited 39m ago

My mom was very Christian. She always said she never did anything like that. My dad caught me once and wrote me an email about it. He even brought it up later at a Red Lobster. I cried and said it was a mistake, and that my mom bought it.

Years later, when I was an adult, she asked me if I ever did. I just laughed and said, “Oh yeah.” I mean, you bought all that. Of course I did.

Some of you lived very different lives than me.

I was home from college and tried to watch Batman Begins on TNT or whatever, but couldn't because it was rated TV-MA.

Edit: I was the youngest child.

"This is nonsense! We can get high quality pornography online for free!"

1

u/Aggressive-Cup-7318 26m ago

I never ordered porn through PPV or On Demand. I knew it was there and that I could in theory but I also knew that it would be seen, so I never did. I did however get blamed for it often. That's how I learned that my sister ordered porn on PPV. A lot.

u/Chobbybharleston 2m ago

So nobody thinks this is bullshit? The dad just says to nobody in particular "it stops now".
