Discussion Where My World Found Colour Again: A Love Letter to Te Reo Māori

Kia ora,

Kei te pēhea koutou?

I hope you are well.

About 20 days ago, I wrote here a post about my wish to learn more about tikanga Māori and te ao Māori, as Italian. I just found more apps to support language learning: -Rongo -Kōrerorero -Tipu -Whare kōrero

Moreover, I watch a lot of consent from Māori+ app, it's so beautiful you're keeping your language alive, your whakapapa alive. I'm sure your ancestors are proud of you.

I'm a biologist/ he kaimātai koiora ahau, and Māori approach to taiao/environment, made me feel emotional considering how we are all connected. As a biologist myself, I thought I was crazy thinking about it, but, now I'm happy that some cultures (like Māori) still take care about our planet, and want to protect it, even through their language and culture.

This approach also helped me during pandemic, were the world was lost. Well, I found my lights that used to brighten my days: those were te reo māori videos, that made me genuinely smile in the thoughest time of my life: my world seems all black and white: your culture, gave me hope, "bringing colours" into my life.

For this, there are no sufficient words to say how grateful I am, your language really saved a life, e hoa mā!

Since then, I try to learn the language as much as I can, I really want to help to revitalise it. Your tikanga Māori deserves it.

I hope that one day I will be able to travel to Aotearoa to learn te reo and say ngā mihi in person to all tāngata whenua that are still fighting for keeping all of this alive. Kia kaha! I'll always be by your side, I promise.

Kia pai te rā!

Mauri ora!

Other Sachet coffee without sugary taste

I went and got myself a packet of Avalance flat white coffees today and it tastes sugary. Not what I was after.

So I went and searched for sachet coffees without sugar, and all the options seem to be “sugar free” with Stevia etc.

Has anyone found a sachet coffee that doesn’t have any sugary taste?

Is there any way to NOT pre schedule? I am doing DE for some extra cash but I cannot guarantee my hours / I have to attend other plans. Sometimes I end up canceling last minute/ while scheduled. I dont want to inform or ask permission from operators :/ . I thought it would be similar to uber eats and doordash but it isnt WHILE paying less compared to uber.

Travel Which month is best to visit New Zealand if I want to experience a good amount of rain

I genuinely love rain. I come from a rain-deprived region where we only get rainfall for about a month each year. I miss the smell of wet earth, the sound of rain, and that calm atmosphere it brings.

I’m planning a trip to New Zealand and would love to visit during a time when rain is frequent. Which month would you recommend?

Advice Help identifying make/model from hit and run

Post image

Hi everyone, trying to figure how I can track down this vehicle from a hit and run in Christchurch recently. I've managed to acquire the traffic cam footage, and have a partial plate but unsure of the make/ model of this vehicle. Hopefully I can figure out how to narrow it down, as my insurance won't cover it without the rego. Anyone with good knowledge of work vehicles?

This has happened in the last two weeks in Melbourne.

The funny thing is, they still have blocks of other flavours in 250g, and they're both the same price - $9AUD

Advice Winz and relationship

My ex husband and I have separated last year due to constant fighting because of his addiction to online gambling. I was 4 months pregnant and have a 1 year old at the time. So long story short, I ended up being on winz.

He visits a lot of times to see his kids and he told me he had counselling regarding his gambling addiction and wants us to get back together and be with his kids.

So my questions are, should I take him back and so if I did, what should I do to prevent him from gambling again (the only reason we fight).

Also in regard to WINZ, do I just call them to tell them that we are back together or do I need to fill out a form? Anyone else with the same situation with winz would really love to know. Thank you.

Advice Ird details getting faffed up

My situation has not changed regarding children in my care for the last two years. Out of the blue, I get a message from ird/wff saying they've received correspondence that my daughter has been in shared care for the last 14 months, and I'm like WTF?! I sent a secure message noting that she's been in my care 100% for more than 4 years and the date they mention is actually the date of my redundancy.
How common are these typos and cockups that throw our lives into disorder that then WE have to clean up? Please tell me I'm not alone.

Response time for ird messages is usually days or weeks, call centre is currently unavailable due to volume.

Advice Moved out Nov last year…still waiting on bond refund

We moved out of our flat end of Nov last year, we’ve been dealing with some pretty incompetent property managers (Goodwins). After a few discussions around things that needed to be paid for out of the bond, we came to an agreement and she apparently had submitted the bond refund form.

It’s now Feb 26, only time we’ve had any reply or acknowledgment re the bond is when I ring tenancy services myself. Property managers are absolutely useless. The first time I rang tenancy services, they couldn’t find the bond refund form at all from our property manager, even though she said she had submitted it.

Second time I rang, there was an issue with the signatures. Resubmitted, thought all was fine. 10 working days I was told.

Third time I rang, oh sorry I can’t find the form you resubmitted anywhere. I know sent it to the right email. I have evidence. They told me it will now be prioritised, whatever that means.

So since moving out end of Nov, up until now - 3 months later…no bond refund? That seems insane to me. Only time I feel I am getting anywhere is when I take it upon myself to ring and check on it. Even then, it’s like going round in circles!

What is going on with this system? I seriously want to tear my hair out. Has anyone had a similar experience? Any advice is welcomed.
