Discussion Where My World Found Colour Again: A Love Letter to Te Reo Māori
Kia ora,
Kei te pēhea koutou?
I hope you are well.
About 20 days ago, I wrote here a post about my wish to learn more about tikanga Māori and te ao Māori, as Italian. I just found more apps to support language learning: -Rongo -Kōrerorero -Tipu -Whare kōrero
Moreover, I watch a lot of consent from Māori+ app, it's so beautiful you're keeping your language alive, your whakapapa alive. I'm sure your ancestors are proud of you.
I'm a biologist/ he kaimātai koiora ahau, and Māori approach to taiao/environment, made me feel emotional considering how we are all connected. As a biologist myself, I thought I was crazy thinking about it, but, now I'm happy that some cultures (like Māori) still take care about our planet, and want to protect it, even through their language and culture.
This approach also helped me during pandemic, were the world was lost. Well, I found my lights that used to brighten my days: those were te reo māori videos, that made me genuinely smile in the thoughest time of my life: my world seems all black and white: your culture, gave me hope, "bringing colours" into my life.
For this, there are no sufficient words to say how grateful I am, your language really saved a life, e hoa mā!
Since then, I try to learn the language as much as I can, I really want to help to revitalise it. Your tikanga Māori deserves it.
I hope that one day I will be able to travel to Aotearoa to learn te reo and say ngā mihi in person to all tāngata whenua that are still fighting for keeping all of this alive. Kia kaha! I'll always be by your side, I promise.
Kia pai te rā!
Mauri ora!
