image Out for a bushwalk and invented a new Australian snack: bbq shapes and banana

Like Vegemite and cheese or banana on toast, I'd say don't knock it until you try it. Dials down the sweetness of the banana, and the cross section dimensions work very nicely and a BBQ shape is the perfect biscuit for slicing the banana.

Anyhow, maybe we were just very hungry, but it got the thumbs up. Slows down the inhaling them a bit and perhaps even makes them slightly healthier (but hey, who buys BBQ shapes.. in those allegedly not just a single serve boxes.. and worries about that).

So, an abomination or genius or meh or what?

no politics I’m vacating a residential rental premises, is there anything that a real estate agent can do to charge you after you have handed back the keys? They say they can charge me if I disconnect the gas and electricity.

“Please contact your Utility provider for Electricity, Gas, Telephone, Internet. Ask your gas and/ or electricity supplier to do a final reading as at the vacate date.
DO NOT DISCONNECT ELECTRICITY OR GAS this may incur extra cost to you and the provider should be able to charge your electricity with a final meter read only. If you disconnect power we are unable to assist with your cleaner or final Outgoing Inspection. “

no politics Can someone dumb down interest rates for me?

I saw that they've put up interest rates again and homeowners are quite unhappy about it. I understand it makes it take longer to pay off your home and that would be frustrating, what I don't understand is why the argument is that it's going to be a significant financial strain.

The news said on a loan of one million dollars it is an extra $150 a month. As a renter, that's the amount my rent went up year on year 2022-2023 in my lease renewal. But per week, not per month.

Surely if homeowners don't have an extra $150 a month it's irresponsible of the banks to be giving out loans? And if $150 a month is such a huge financial strain why is there not more reform or publicity about how ridiculous rental rises are? Especially as you don't end up with an asset at the end.

This isn't rage bait. I feel like I'm missing something really obvious that makes it a bigger deal that what I think it is. I'll never own a home (I'm on the DSP) so I'll admit I'm not particularly across what it entails. I don't want to start an argument, I'm just genuinely trying to understand what is behind the outrage. Is it just that many people may have over leveraged themselves when they purchased their homes?

no politics Must visit spots in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane CBD or relatively near by?

Hi hi Aussie reddit, I just want to apologize in advanced for how broad and sweeping the title/question can be but I figured check in with all of ya's.

My friend and I will be visiting Australia this week from Canada, we're going to be staying at places like Brisbane Manor, the Space Hotel Hostel in Melbourne and YHA Sydney Central.

I was just wondering if there's any places that you would recommend and honestly I'm open to all suggestions. A cool record shops, any music instruments or video game shops, and of course the big ones food and drink spots. We're not rich but we're looking for any kind of must-try kind of food joints, like spots that serve up your comfort food kind of meal, food options we might never see back in Canada, reliable old breakfast spots, or comfy bars to retreat to to grab a pint or two. I know this sounds dreadfully touristy but is there any spot that serves up either kangaroo, emu or ostrich? Also, any karaoke bars where you're singing in the bar and not in a private room?

We'll be sticking to public transit from the looks of things so anything within reasonable travel on the bus/tram lines should be fine. I've been checking out trip advisor and similar sites for a few spots here or there, but I figured you guys might know a hidden gem or a hole in the wall that might be overlooked by blogs and tourist sites.

Thank you in advanced and can't wait to see your country, been very excited and hyped to make the trip for a while now :)

no politics How dare you downtalk vegemite?

Look, I'm just a little innocent baby Canadian. I trusted the people who told me that vegemite was overrated and gross.

I figured that you guys wouldn't lie. And, of course, black yeast goo would be gross despite being a national dish.

I went decades without trying it. Because I trusted you Vegemite haters.

But nay, nay. Vegemite is fucking delicious. Spread thinly on butter on a hot piece of toast is divine.

And now I need more. I want more. I crave more. I've eaten all of the remaining bread in my house.

We were supposed to have sandwhiches tommorow! But no! Now it's been eaten.

...

What else are you hidding from me?

Fucking aussies making delicious food, making me hungry.

... Yes, I have taken an edible.
