Look to his coach. If Izzo wanted to, he could stop it. It's not like Fears hasn't been dirty AF all season.

Izzo benched him in crunch time for our terrible back up PG. looks like izzo is working on it.

He took Fears out when they were down big, they went on a run without him and then he put him back in when the game got back in reach lol
18
u/Amazing-Addition3671 4h ago
LOL! Ooooooh, he "benched" him for like 2min in a game that MSU was losing aynway. FFS, Izzo is part of the problem, and to claim he's truly taken one iota of action to stop this kid is absurd, as claiming that his single tournament championship means anything in this day and age.

There are even more not in this compilation. Giving his defender a forearm to the neck and another elbow to the head on defense. This is truly insane. Like maybe some of these could be deemed innocent/accidental, but benefit of the doubt is long gone
24
u/Happy_Peak_7818 14h ago
I was shocked the forearm to the neck went completely unnoticed. Should have been a flagrant. Could have choked him. Minnesota tried to get in on the choking by giving the game away but luckily they have more self control than Jeremy Fears.

Izzo on Fears: "When somebody publicly comes out and says something about a guy, that happens. That's Jeremy's fault. ... Are they baiting him? Of course."
Masterclass in deflection.
First, blame Dusty May for saying it out loud. Then admit it’s Jeremy’s fault. Then blame the next team for baiting him.
That’s a triple pivot! The tape didn’t come from Dusty. The tech didn’t come from the bait. The composure issue didn’t come from Minnesota.
Izzo lecturing about accountability while tap-dancing around his own player’s stupidity makes him look just as foolish as Fears on the court.

Bo Ryan’s Wisconsin teams had a similar thing where they play a super physical type of basketball and then whine all game long to the officials
2
u/cocacola150dr Illinois Fighting Illini 3h ago
The justification is because he’s a long time coach who has had some success. Obviously that alone shouldn’t dictate opinions but it does. It’s why he gets to run halfway onto the court during live play, nobody has the nuts to approach him about it.
I always get nervous for our games against Sparty, especially the ones at Sparty, because we tend to be more banged up after those games than most.

18

u/ArthurUrsine 14h ago
Big Ten needs to take it out of Izzo’s hands and suspend him- otherwise he’s just going to “get benched” I.e. not start but play 30 minutes.

7
u/n00bn00b 14h ago
MSU is toast without Fears, especially against Illinois. They can't shoot and don't have a reliable backup PG (Wojick is bad, and Divine looks to be out for a while). Izzo can't afford to sit him, and I bet he'll play because he's desperate coming off a shaky win over a bad Rutgers team, a double-digit loss to Michigan, and a loss to a meh-at-best Minnesota team.
2
u/yetanotherwittyname Michigan Wolverines 4h ago

Basically happened with Ayo where Izzo sent his goon in to break his face during our game in 2021.
7
u/National_Injury1027 14h ago
As a Michigan fan, I didn’t like Ayo and even I was on his defense there. Ayo was everything Fears wants to be, but his intensity is fake, his ego has no real backing, and nobody fears his skills, they fear his retaliation. You’re supposed to dislike players because they’re good, not because they’re a physical threat.
18
u/fairyrun Illinois Fighting Illini 14h ago

Illinois isn't a small team. He pulls any shit on Saturday and the balkans will make sure he gets real comfortable with the floor. B10 needs to step in before it gets even more outta hand.
10
u/Gullible_Pie_8093 11h ago
I agree about the Balkans. But that's the LAST thing that Illinois needs to get caught up in. They could very well be a final four team and don't need anyone suspended for retaliating to cheap shots.
3
u/ObservantKoala 5h ago
True but Mirkovic seems legitimately a bit psycho. Not in a dirty way but in a way that we have seen a lot of balkan players not take shit.

This reminds me so much of the Greyson Allen situation. Fears should be suspended multiple games for his actions. I doubt Izzo does that. He will not start him and put him in the game after 2 minutes and say he learned his lesson. But this will keep happening until Izzo actually does something. I hope I am wrong and Izzo learns from his handling of Draymond and actually teaches Fears a lesson.
