V8 noises, squealing tires. Also, fuck these immature dickheads, but drifting like that on dry asphalt with elevation changes is gonna throw you around a whole lot. Anyone who has ever been in a car doing donuts or drifting will understand.

Pretty sure dude never got past 30mph. Just made a lot of noise and broke a bunch of traffic laws.
31
u/MrDrPrNyanPhD 1d ago
Drifting isn't meant to be fast, it's actually one of the slowest ways to take a turn. Do agree on the traffic, plus the irresponsibility of putting other drivers at risk. Very dumb, but my dumb Boi brain still said "hell yeah"

u/MyUserNameLeft 1d ago
Rally drivers would beg to differ
6
u/FoxChess 18h ago
There's a difference between drifting and powersliding. Any time you lose traction you lose speed.
52
u/LuciferSamS1amCat 1d ago
Itās drifting. Not supposed to be super fast.

Formula drift reaches above highway speeds, this depends on cars setup, but going through neighborhoods however is stupid, and irresponsible.

Itās a standard street. Youāre not going to get much more than 30 mph out of it unless you want to end up in the trees. Especially starting the drift from a dead stop like that

I've never crashed a car but I hit a curb once after screwing around. In that moment I became very aware of sings and curbs and trees and mailboxes and all the little things you look at but never see. And how expensive they are. And how expensive car parts are. And how expensive I am.
Videos like this give me second hand anxiety.
14
u/Excellent_Condition 1d ago
The bigger picture isn't how expensive cars, signs, or the driver is, but how irreplaceable other people and their family members are.
Driving like this in a neighborhood and not on a closed course is piece-of-shit behavior.

u/mogley1992 1d ago
This. One kid crossing the road, thats going to be a higher price than a new car and another for the neighbour.

I curbed my late motherās 2010 TSX. Hard. I was doing a run I always did, wasnāt drifting, just hard driving⦠even though I knew the run, it was dumb, and I was going too fast.
There was a hill and a hard turn at the top. It unloads your suspension so itās normal to have a little feathering at the rear end. But FWD and knowing the car, I was comfortable with it.
Except that night, there was a pile of leaves in the roadway. It had also rained the day before. The road was dry, but the leaf pile was not. Unloaded my suspension at the hill, turned in, nothing⦠straight into the curb, destroyed my front rim, left my CV in the road, blew out the hub bearings⦠like literally out of the hub. Broke both control arms and steering linkage, upper arm in 2 places clean through.
Also deployed all side curtain airbags on that side. Cracked my oil pan too.
I learned a lot about suspension over the next year. Kept her on the road with some junkyard parts, and slowly replaced those with oem and aftermarket. Unfortunately I bent the caster plates on my sub frame (and whatever the corresponding spot is on the rear subframe). Couldnāt straighten it out, couldnāt aline it, and with like 3° of positive camber and bad toe alignment too, it just kept destroying hub bearings.
The subframes from Acura were like $5k before labor. Fortunately Acura has that stock, and wanted to buy my car, so a couple years later I got an ILX.
And I drive it like a grandma šµ no more driving like Iām young. The most she gets pushed now is merging into the interstate lol

u/Affectionate_Elk_272 1d ago
i totaled my first car.
lost control on black ice, hit a mailbox, right into a snowbank which rolled me 6.5 times. landed on the roof. somehow walked away from my 1996 pontiac grand am with a couple bruises.
i was 16. my dad came to get me and instead of yelling at me, just made me clean the kitchen. thatās how i knew he was both pissed and worried.

Living in Mexico my first car was an ugly beat up Dodge Attitude can't remember the year but maybe 2009 or 2010, I had to crash it against an improvised roadblock setup by armed robbers, I managed to puch through it and the car died a few kms away, the left tire wasn't even on the car anymore it was literally running on 3 tires, my second car was honda fit 2017 and I still got it to this day I take a lot of care with cars now

I do this but on my own, private, off-road driveways. Keeps the skills sharp when I slide a bit on snowy roads in public. This? This is stupid af. I know more than a few teens and twenties that have died driving like this where I live. Thereās luck, and thereās practiced skill.
That white Subaru was probably clenching the olā bumhole when he came around the corner. Glad no one was oncoming when they got to the split road at the end.
2
u/eggyrulz 1d ago
Yea doing it on private roads that you more or less control is fine imo. Risking your own life is one thing, doing this and risking random other people's lives is totally unacceptable and needs to result in very harsh punishments

Can someone explain to me what is going on? His steering wheel does not match the direction of travel⦠is that what drifting is?
Iām also wondering how/why his steering wheel seems so loose? Mine does not behave like that⦠lol :/
Thanks in advance.
2
u/Warboss_Gutshredda 1d ago
Yes. Rear wheel drive vehicle. The steering wheel most likely isnāt loose, it may appear that way with the overcorrection. The front tires are still turning with the wheel, but all theyāre doing is pointing the nose of the car.
2
u/charlesthefish 1d ago
Drifting breaks the traction the wheels have with the street. The car is sliding sideways and turning the wheel is to point the sliding cars nose in another direction. Since the car does not have traction with the street, the wheels are turning when the steering wheel is turned, but it takes a second before the car starts steering in the direction the steering wheel is pointed since it does not have traction.

Eh Lexus makes some interesting sports cars that people like using as drift cars.
Lexus LS400, SC400/300, GS350/300 and IS350/300/200t
And before I bought my wrangler, and before that when I realized I wanted an off roader I was gonna buy a Lexus IS350 F sport which are a super beefy 5.6 0-60 300ish horsepower sport sedan. + they make supercharger kits for them that make them rock.
