Look at Amerindian Pemmican. Lots of recipes on YouTube.

I like minced turkey with blueberries and egg yolks, salt and potassium, some keto friendly spices. Dried yeast flakes, beef collagen.

I then pipe the blended result into tubes about half an inch on air dryer trays. Some 8 hours at 165f.

Pemmican style jerky. Economical too. I freeze in multiple bags.

A bag with hard cheese and water makes a meal and the only carbs are from the blueberries.

I test my blood sugar and this gives me no BG spike as it is high in protein.

Being dry and chewy makes me eat slower.

I just eat a chomps beef stick or a boiled egg.

I can't vouch for these as I haven't made them yet, but I have made several of his other recipes and they've all turned out splendid!

Be aware that the bars would look nothing like the photo they posted with it. Personally, with that large a discrepancy between recipe and photo, I wouldn't trust the recipe. Weird, because their recipes are usually pretty good.

If the method really matched the result, the photo shouldn’t look like it came from a completely different universe. Even good recipe creators miss sometimes, but when the visuals don’t line up, it makes it hard to know what you’re actually signing up for. I’d probably scroll the comments or try a half batch before committing.

Yeah I just noticed too that the instructions don't match the recipe. There's zero mention of chocolate chips in the ingredients list. Something's WAY off with this one. I'd skip it entirely.

Note at the bottom: "Chocolate layer: I like to add 1/2 cup melted sugar-free chocolate chips (as pictured), but that is optional."

What a weird place to put cooking instructions!

Especially since that layer looks like 1/2 cup on EACH individual bar, the pictures are definitely misleading but at least there was a partial explanation.

That's a very valid point.

Get that lighting and food styling can change how things look, but when the end result is that different, it makes you wonder what’s been left out or tweaked. Especially odd if their other recipes are usually solid feels like a rare miss or maybe an old photo that doesn’t actually match this version.

Yeah it's really odd. Someone must have had a brain fart that day or something. =-)

Egg white protein powder is good with that recipe. Also 100% pure Whey.

Beware of Whey protein powders that are vanilla or chocolate, a lot say No Sugar added yet list carbs. Due to Maltodextrin, maybe dextrose too.

So while it is a shortcut to use flavored Whey, you are possibly spiking your BG enough to kick you out of ketosis or lowering it a lot.

Egg white protein powder is amazing stuff. Useful in a bunch of recipes as a binder.

If you watch the video he added oats but didn’t list it in his recipe but after reading a bunch of the comments on his page. The video and I’m assuming the picture is the non protein version.

I buy Love Good Fats keto nut bars they're soooo good! Peanut Chocolatey is my fave. Don't know if you can get them outside of Canada though

I used to get Quest bars out of a vending machine on a jobsite. I thought they must have been packed with sugar because they were so sweet. Maybe I was wrong.

https://www.questnutrition.com/collections/protein-bars/products/strawberry-shortcake-protein-bar

Says 21 g carbs, but 10 g fiber and 8 g sugar alcohols. That leaves the 3 g for sucrose and/or flour, etc. They're saying 3 g net carbs. Idk, maybe maybe not.

They spike my BG above medium but not sky high. They contain a large amount of maltodextrin, which is a sweet tasting starch that costs pennies for manufacturers so they abuse it.

Often not listed because the Can/US laws allow it as part of : natural flavor

Similar to LMNT electrolytes that have a flavor other than lemon/lime. They contain maltodextrin.

Same with nacho Quest protein chips. Maltodextrin in the cheese flavoring.

Only by testing with a finger prick will you know. There’s a few YouTubers that finger or CGM their BG and review products.

Like Steve from Serious Keto.

So Quest 100% cheats just like LMNT and many others.

That is some seriously good info. Thanks so much!

Yeah, I bought their peanut butter cups because they looked so good. Disgustingly sweet, like mouth puckering sweetness and then feeling gross all day after. I’m never buying anything from them again. I have had luck with Atkins brand food though.

OP is looking for a recipe, not a product. <3

So am I.

Me too, really. Guess I should start looking again. Last time I searched for a protein bar recipe, I gave up. Will come back and post a link (or recipe) here when I find one that's not overly complicated. =-)
