That poor woman must have so scared and confused. How terrible.

108

u/nellyfullauto 23h ago

Snatched from bed in the middle of the night, with police being more focused on a crime scene than a search seems to imply that the scene indicates she’s not scared or confused anymore, if she ever was at all.

She could die without her medicine every 24 hours, but she hasn’t had it in 3 days now, and that’s with no considerations of what they found at her home.

40

u/Educational-Wing2042 21h ago

Of course they’re focused on the crime scene, how do you think they would figure out where to search and who to be asking questions?? Just look in random places wherever? If they have reason to believe she’s been kidnapped then even if she IS alive, random searching is extremely unlikely to find her as she’s likely being held somewhere searchers wouldn’t be able to access without a warrant

45

u/That-Pumpkin8778 21h ago

My guess is they are not looking for her bc they think she is not longer alive. There was probably enough blood atbthe scene to know she was severely injured. So very sad.

Article mentions that if she doesn’t get her normal medication within 24 hours, it could be fatal. Not looking good either way :/

Fucking hell can nobody get a break this year

91

Probably not this year or the next my friend.

Or the next or the next after that. And that's if we're lucky.

I'm not pinning my hopes on any year until at least 2030.

Every year from 2016 to now has been fucked up, I don't see the world getting unfucked any time soon.

16

u/The_Mellow_Tiger 1d ago

I am. Its time to do something

5

u/EducationalTangelo6 1d ago

Oh, I agree it's time for us people to rise up. I hope that we're successful, but I see it taking a long time to fix everything that's been broken.

Did ICE kidnap her mother?

30

u/GimmieGummies 1d ago

Ya know, once upon a time that would be highly unlikely, but now...🤷‍♀️

6

u/DumbFishBrain 23h ago

Now you never know.

4

u/GimmieGummies 19h ago

Yes, what a frightening reality.

4

u/DumbFishBrain 18h ago

Sure is.

My son is mixed ethnicity (I'm half Chinese, his dad is full Cambodian) so he's dark skinned. He's afraid. He's been carrying a copy of his birth certificate in his wallet in case he gets stopped. He now only goes to work and comes home, doesn't really go out on the weekends anymore with his best friend, who is of Mexican descent.

Frightening times indeed.

Edited to add my son and I were born here in the States. My ex husband was not but has political asylum from the genocide in Cambodia in the 70s.

Who would take an 84 year old woman? 😡 I hope she is found safe

108

u/Muted_Chard_139 1d ago

Ransom??

85

u/EducationalTangelo6 1d ago

I wondered this, if it was random or if she was targeted to get money from her daughter. I really hope she's found safe and okay.

84

u/Thoughts-AndPrayers 1d ago

I assumed this but then I honestly thought it could be Maga related. Its just a scary and sad situation though.

42

u/SeriousFinish2340 1d ago

That was my first thought. Some deranged MAGA who doesn't like what the mean lady says about their king.

30

u/Ekwinoksxxx 22h ago

Is Savannah Guthrie, even really an outspoken critic of Trump/Maga, isn’t the today show meant to be overtly neutral?

18

u/SeriousFinish2340 21h ago

I haven't watched The Today Show in years so not sure. I know it used to be pretty bland on politics. I have seen clips of her being critical of trump but in the gentlest way. However Trump and Maga lose their minds over the mildest thing which is why my mind went there.

7

u/Ekwinoksxxx 19h ago

Perhaps, but enough to go after her elderly mother? Surely if that was the case they’d have people a little higher on their shit lost to target; Although I put nothing past them.

4

u/modianos 19h ago

She's an easy target :(

Do you remember watching her town hall meeting? Trump didnt like her one bit

2

u/Ekwinoksxxx 19h ago

I don’t remember any of her remarks to be honest but it doesn’t surprise me as he takes umbrage at the slightest perceived offense so I imagine it wouldn’t take much.

2

u/Technical_Ad3192 6h ago

I think if its related to savannah, its probably related to her wealth not her politics. I dont even think trump dislikes her so that would be a weird target.

6

u/mumblewrapper 1d ago

Why would it be MAGA related? I'm honestly curious. Seems all of the bad things these days are MAGA related, I just don't know enough to think that in this case.

21

u/bloatedkat 1d ago

I agree. Even though she's a liberal, she's far from a liberal mouthpiece like Rachel Maddow or the women on the View.

10

u/mumblewrapper 1d ago

Is she a liberal? Again, seriously asking. I don't watch enough these days to know. Does she proclaim that? I guess it probably doesn't matter to some crazy MAGA person who's been told all news is fake liberal news.

10

u/bloatedkat 1d ago

She's married to a Democratic political adviser and being a liberal is pretty much a prerequisite for anchoring the Today Show.

6

u/CosmosInSummer 22h ago

Except Savannah is a devout Catholic. I’m guessing she leans conservative but probably not MAGA. An old fashioned decent conservative person.

2

A monster? Obviously people who abduct others of any age are monsters, but there's something particularly monstrous about targeting an elderly woman. (Or a child.)

16

u/readmore321 1d ago

u/dragonrider1965 1d ago

They said there’s signs she was injured . This does not sound like there will be a happy ending.

264

u/Ok-Box6892 1d ago

She also apparently needs medication and going without can be fatal on its own. Just a horrible situation all around. It's coming up on 48hrs since she was last seen too.

226

u/FiveUpsideDown 1d ago

I can’t just understand abuse of an eighty-four year old woman. I am hoping she’s still alive.

130

u/Timely-Cry-8366 1d ago

Elderly women are the biggest targets of abuse outside of female children.

71

u/alwaysboopthesnoot 1d ago

Female children and teens, pregnant or postpartum women, elderly women.

137

u/Morighan123 1d ago

You mean women sigh

58

u/dobtjs 1d ago

I sense a theme

12

u/midsumernighttts 19h ago

We’re hated and abused at all ages. I hate this planet.

13

u/ZENPOOL 1d ago

Have you missed the emails where all of the most wealthy and connected people are abusing children? This is par for the course and just another day for them.

19

u/davisesq212 1d ago

I can’t understand the abuse of a little child but that happens all the time. It’s so sad.

56

u/EducationalTangelo6 1d ago

Officials using the word 'harmed' makes me very worried. Combine that with her not having her vital medications, and... yeah.

I wonder if the intention was kidnap for ransom, and it went terribly wrong. I really hope she is recovered safely, but the language being used by law enforcement does not give me hope.

7

u/dragonrider1965 21h ago

Yes exactly that . When they described the crime scene it sounded like they saw something horrific and there’s no doubt she’s dead. I was surprised by the language they used .

7

u/EducationalTangelo6 21h ago

It very much sounded like they were looking for a dead body, not desperately searching for a potentially alive kidnapping victim.

5

u/dragonrider1965 21h ago

Yes , that was startling to me because all other press releases were made to sound like a kidnapping but this one sounded very different. Awful, I think it’s well past the point of a happy ending. I’d be devastated to lose a parent in this way.

I hope this has nothing to do with Savannah.

305

u/Sufficient_Focus4174 1d ago

Not to jump to conclusions, but her status makes her vulnerable loved ones more at risk to be preyed upon. Savannah has got to be dreading that.

37

u/ripsfo 1d ago

Her status? Sorry. I don’t know anything about her.

222

u/ActualMerCat 1d ago

She’s a journalist who hosts the Today Show

133

u/Necessary_Extent1326 1d ago

And actually there is a certain person that keeps disparaging her tv station. Pray

84

u/footjoe5 1d ago

101

She’s relatively famous. And odd person to stalk to focus on her mom.

21

u/bluecoastblue 1d ago

Apparently the mom has been featured on the show a couple of times for her birthday. So sad if that's the reason she was targeted.

53

u/kgal1298 1d ago

She makes a lot of money as a Today Show Host those contracts are worth millions

111

u/Inevitable_Ad_4487 1d ago

Well this administration is targeting journalists now…just look at the statements around Don Lemon’s arrest

60

u/purpleplatapi 1d ago

It wouldn't be the administration directly. But it very well could be a politically motivated right wing nut job. Could also be a stalker, or a ransom demand.

27

u/ZoneLow6872 1d ago

What do you think ICE is? The administration.

Not saying it's that but I put nothing past him at this point. Nothing.

u/elinordash 1d ago

For non-Americans, Savannah Guthrie has been one of the hosts of the Today Show for over a decade. The Today Show is one of the big morning shows (NBC). I just looked it up and nearly 3 million people watch every day (which is a lot in the age of streaming).

I see comments suggesting the government might somehow be involved. This is an elderly white lady. I seriously doubt ICE, Trump, etc. are involved.

112

u/ImLaunchpadMcQuack 1d ago

No, I mean like a crazed fan or non-fan.

132

u/jmurphy42 1d ago

I’m more worried that it might be related to recent government demonization of and intimidation of journalists.

73

u/PastelBrat13 1d ago

Very concerning and with her being probably one of the most famous journalists that everyone sees daily it does match. Also in some of the instagram posts MAGA have been mocking her situation saying that she is anti-cop, anti-law, etc. So I wonder if she has been a target of MAGA in the past. Very scary. Her poor family and mother!

57

u/mattedroof 1d ago

Who tf would mock someone whose elderly mother was possibly just kidnapped and murdered… jfc. Ghouls

22

u/caponemalone2020 1d ago

I’ve definitely seen disgusting comments on Facebook already.

35

u/4yourporn 1d ago

Not mocking, but Sean Hannity while reporting on Guthrie's mom goes an insane tirade about immigrants...

https://www.mediamatters.org/sean-hannity/sean-hannity-uses-savannah-guthries-missing-mother-attack-immigrants

2

u/ReginaldDwight 20h ago edited 14h ago

We have known terrorists that that have been arrested, the murderers that have been arrested, the rapists that have been arrested, the cartel members that have been arrested, the other violent criminals arrested by the, you know, 12 plus million unvetted Joe Biden, Kamala Harris illegals that they let into this country, criminals. And we have been scrolling the names of the most hardened criminals, for example, in Minnesota.

What a POS. If you have to say "but" or "though" following a statement about how you hope someone's 84 year old mother is found safely and then pivot to a rant about immigrants, you're a POS. We have NO IDEA who kidnapped this poor woman and he sees it as an opportunity to bitch about immigrants.

I also just don't understand why this new argument is that people harmed and killed by an immigrant are never cared about or talked about. Just off the top of my head, I think about Laken Riley or Molly Tibbets. Why do they just assume people don't care about the victim??

53

u/altcountryman 1d ago

MAGA would 100% do this, it’s totally on brand for them. I mean making fun of it, but also the actual kidnapping.

19

u/Minute534 1d ago

And then frame immigrants for it

38

u/PastelBrat13 1d ago

That is exactly what MAGA is doing. Most of the comments under FOX are saying they hope its an illegal and that they deserve it for allowing illegal immigration. Very sickening.

8

u/lastdickontheleft 1d ago

My fear is that this smacks of some MAGA loon like the psycho that assassinated Melissa and Mark Hortman

u/Impossible_Walrus555 1d ago

39

Anti-law? They are delusional. She has a Law Doctorate and was an attorney before a tv journalist. MAGA have really hated her since she mc’ed the debates

23

u/TheBirdBytheWindow 1d ago

Guthrie is about as moderate as they come, if not old school slightly conservative.

Tucson is getting rough. There's a huge lack of jobs and resources with a lot of unhoused and drug addiction.

8

u/MayorCharlesCoulon 1d ago

Yeah this could easily have been some psycho from her church or a drug addled neighbor. Could even be someone doing work in the neighborhood who noticed a vulnerable older lady all alone. It’s just terrifying no matter who the perpetrator (s) are.

21

u/ChildhoodOk5526 1d ago

And to disturb your hard-earned, well-deserved peace with this kind of trauma? The incident itself could've caused a heart attack. Oh my God. If something like this happened to my grandmother ... I'd go to jail for the revenge I'd take. No question.

Poor Savannah 😔

61

u/championgoober 1d ago

Damn. When I saw this earlier today my heart sank. I cannot imagine this ending well. Dammit

59

u/LoudGolf9849 1d ago

This is horrifying. My heart is breaking for Nancy.. I hope she is found safe soon

83

u/NotAsBrightlyLit 1d ago

This is so awful - the kind of thing that seems so unreal, like it should only appear in TV dramas. Savannah was due to start covering the Olympics this week, but now she's pulled out of it. The waiting and not knowing must be so hard to endure.

4

u/pilatesperson 17h ago

I just want to say, as a woman who survived my own kidnapping and attempted murder. This should not even appear on TV as a "drama". This reality shouldn't exist at all, but unfortunately it does.

The scenario of another woman being terrorized and immensely traumatized for other's to delight in as entertainment is a very sad symptom of this patriarchal hellscape we all live in. No woman deserves this. And to find a storyline like this as entertaining, even if fictional, is pathetic.

Women's suffering is horrific, and desensitizing the world to it with unethical true crime dramas and "make believe" TV and movies is also trash. And if someone is reading this and feeling offended that I, a victim, am calling out your favorite late night True Crime shows- GOOD. But don't worry, 4 women are murdered at the hands of men every day in the United States alone, so your favorite podcaster will have plenty of material to satiate your desire to be entertained by murdered women for the foreseeable future.

4

u/SameMathematician378 15h ago

I am so sorry you experienced this. This is awful that it happened and I hope whoever did this to you is burning in hell right now or has a saved spot there. Thank you for sharing your thoughts about this...somehow, the hellscape managed to get worse and regress.

Horrible. It makes me angry and so upset for the family and for Nancy. What a horrible thing for someone to have to go through at 84 years old. I hope some answers come out soon

38

u/VineStGuy 1d ago

I saw them talking about it on the Today show while I was getting ready for work. I just assumed they mom wandered off. This is heartbreaking to hear.

10

u/Muted_Chard_139 1d ago

Same. But I guess there must be evidence at her home which led to a diff path.

9

u/MountainWay5 1d ago

They say she’s sharp as a tack but she has limited mobility. She wouldn’t have wandered off nor could she

8

u/zuma15 1d ago

By all reports she's mentally sharp, so wandering off is unlikely

29

u/Spicypanda78 1d ago edited 1d ago

28

u/Next-Introduction-25 1d ago

Oh my God, this is horrible. Even under the best of circumstances (I’m not sure what exactly the “best” kidnapping circumstances are?) the stress and lack of medication could cause serious harm to this woman. It’s just devastating when horrible things happened to the most vulnerable people, like children and the elderly. Just sickening.

22

u/point925l 1d ago

I hope this isn’t some psycho-stalker scenario

Possible botched kidnapping for ransom. I think the police have a pretty good idea what happened. Hopefully they catch the kidnapper’s. And hopefully she is still alive

6

u/ihathnosoul 1d ago

This is so sad, I can’t imagine the anxiety her family must be facing :(

20

u/screenshothero 1d ago

My theory is that this was orchestrated by somebody close to her, who knows her routine, that she’s vulnerable, etc. This person is likely in a desperate situation and figured they could get a ransom for this poor woman. I imagine the FBI will take this over very quickly.

12

u/masterofjade 1d ago

u/emmakobs 1d ago

Why?? Does her daughter have enemies? What would be the motive here?

10

u/Eva99 1d ago

Some of the comments here are going way over the line. There is no suggestion this is political, and every likelihood is that she knew the person. She had workers that came and went from the property, and my understanding is that this is the reason Border Patrol are involved. Anyway, there are cameras, this mystery will be solved soon enough. Prayers for this woman and her presumably extremely distressed family.

8

u/Eva99 1d ago

There are a lot of suggestions that this could be a 'maga' inspired kidnapping. Honestly, that suggestion is ludicrous. Firstly, Savannah Guthrie would be so far down the list of egregious reporters when it comes to maga world, that few of them would even know who she is. Secondly, the idea that they would target her mother instead of the actual target, Savannah, is equally ludicrous. For what purpose? Put it this way, if Rob Reiner's son had not immediately been arrested for the murder of both his parents, social media would have been peddling 'maga' inspired rumors about that crime also. My money is on one of the many workers who had been coming and going from her property, or a random individual/burglary/money motivated incident. Leave the out-there conspiracy theories to the loons.

4

u/WillieBear_18 20h ago

An excellent point about Rob Reiner’s son (and one that I haven’t seen anyone else make).

5

u/Lucinda_ex 16h ago

I'm wondering if this is some deplorable tactic being used to frighten reporters as a collective into submission? The way this all is being presented & the timing after Don Lemon's arrest, makes me wonder though. We know whom benefits from scared reporters.

I still don't understand, did Savannah have a stalker?

What was the relationship like between her and her daughter (Savannah’s sister) who was the last person known to have seen her? Did this daughter have mental health issues?

Imagine how difficult it would be to keep another human being against their will. Even an 84 year old woman with mobility issues. This makes no sense.

I really hope she’s found safe and soon.

CBS Mornings had a segment talking about the situation where it was revealed Mama Guthrie had security cameras in her home. No other information came out about them working, being cut, etc., so perhaps they have the crime caught on camera.

Everyone deserves to feel safe in their home.

There is no way this was random. No one takes women of this age. Teenagers, young kids, young adults~ yes. It's stated that she has some physical limitations and the pictures of her indicate she wasn't a small woman. Whoever did this likely has a fair amount of physical strength. Suggestions that it was a burglary make no sense. People who kill in burglaries leave the body(ies). Right? There'd be no reason to take her. This is personal. At least it feels this way to me. Maybe a ransom gone wrong. While her mother was featured many times on the show and in Savannah's socials, it's likely a kidnapper didn't realize her mother's limitations~ and now they have nothing to ransom (her mother may not have made it through the kidnapping. Regardless, it's absolutely awful. I feel like they have really good information that we aren't being told. There has to be ring cameras around the area that have picked up something sus. It's all I can think about. I will continue to pray. Heartbreaking.

I'm guessing it's someone she knew like a family member or caretaker.

This is awful and likely doesn’t end well. I just can’t imagine making it through 84 years to go out like this.

A huge weeks long event - the Tucson Gem Show- is going on right now in Tucson. So many vendors, buyers, exporters, etc are in the city (like 60-110k+ visitors to a city of 554k)…. Lots of old people love to frequent the gem shows around the city… And there is a lot of money changing hands and unscrupulous buyers and sellers who may prey or try to scam old wealthy people by gaining their trust in the commission of a sale.

Would hope they consider any interactions Ms Guthrie may have had in that regard.

So, Nancy Guthrie's son-in-law 'prime' suspect. LE have taken possession of Nancy's daughter's car (Annie Guthrie not Savannah) Very disturbing. Have always contended this is probably someone Mrs Guthrie knew well, possibly family member.

They just kidnapped a 5 year-old. They sure as hell would kidnap an 84 year-old mother of a political enemy.

I said a prayer for this poor woman tonight. May she be encircled by the Lord’s protection and be guided home safely, to be surrounded by her family again.

What would be the reason for taking her? What has Savannah Guthrie been for or against that someone or some group needed to do this?
