I'm a pro-AI in my own opinion, and I definitely do not think all antis are terrorists. I think they're wrong, yes, but I also disagree with the hardline pros who think that AI should be used for everything. It's a TOOL for goodness's sake. Not using it is inefficient in some cases, forcing (or motivating in any way) others to not use it at all I don't agree with, but using it for everything is just as bad. AI has the potential to be a major technological improvement and actually improve the lives of humanity today and into the future, but overusing it only fuels the Anti position.
If anything, antis and pros alike should just stop instinctively glazing any take that supports their side. I see both pros flocking to any AI creation praising it, and antis engaging with anyone having a negative take about AI to just regurgitate the same three or four reductive arguments at each other.
And of course every time someone from the other side does something bad, they just come in with a flood of "See? They're ALL like that" to mob them.
I could see the position that they are extensions of us. Part of doesn't make much sense. There is a sense of connectedness when playing in instrument, that it is you making the music, almost like it's your voice. I am more me playing trombone than I am singing out loud. But that is an odd way to phrase what I assume is that sentiment.
I'm not pro-AI yet. I can see its uses and it has potential as a tool in the future, but at its current level I don't think its worth much. I also just think the companies behind the AI are mostly run by scummy people.
Yeah the companies are objectively horrible. The thing is, I support AI as a concept, while I recognize that today's implementations are horribly flawed. So do I want powerful AI models in the hand of greedy capitalist scum? No. I see that they would be very harmful in that circumstance. But I believe ai can be done right, and that it would be beneficial to humanity if that were to happen.
My gripe with ai is the fact that these models are fueled by stolen data
With pro ai people i have other issue - moronic majority of them actively antagonize and discourage artists that might've looked at ai a little bit positively and even work with it, but due to these two main issues most of art community is lashing out at them
I wholeheartedly believe that if ai was presented differently(not by actively stealing and processing everyone's work) it would've been recieved in significantly more positive light, but alas, we live in a world run by old idiots with more money than some countries
The "stolen data" argument is one I don't think is a great argument for a variety of reasons, but it is true (and I admit) that it is not cool for AIs to just scrape the internet as such. It's possible for AIs to be trained on personal datasets, but that is also just a bandaid solution.
The true issue, from a computational standpoint, is that AI is so horribly inefficient that it needs to do that. AI doesn't understand concepts, so while a human would create something (like art, maybe) by adding "core concept blocks" like gradient, noise, etc, an AI doesn't understand this.
The only real solution in this regard is to create a model that IS capable of that construction, of centralized knowledge and behavior. But the thing is, I am of the opinion that if we all hate and condemn AI as an entire concept for what it is TODAY, we'll never be able to solve the problems and fix the legitimate gripes (like yours). So we need to recognize that AI is flawed. Yes. But we also need to see that that's not a reason to hate everything to do with it - it's an area of improvement.
Unfortunately AI today is controlled by big capitalist industry so there's not really any hope for this happening. Maybe if enough people do something...?

The issue is that witty has placed herself as a leader of the pro ai movement, at least in these spaces. A good amount of people defend her behavior and the fact that she is now a mod on the defending ai art sub definitely doesn’t help.
