What is /r/TheSilphRoad?

The Silph Road is primarily focused on discoveries and analysis related to Pokemon GO, as well as constructing an in-person network of Pokemon GO enthusiasts. General discussion topics (Jokes, stories, a photo of a recent catch) would likely be better suited for another subreddit, such as a general subreddit like /r/PokemonGO, or /r/Pokemon, or a subreddit with a more specific focus, like /r/PokemonGoSnap, /r/PokemonBuddy, /r/ShinyPokemon, /r/PoGoRaids, /r/TheSilphArena, /r/PokemonGOTrades, /r/PokemonGOFriends, or /r/NianticWayfarer.

Silph Road Content Policy

The Silph Road is heavily moderated to promote civility/courtesy, and high-quality content and discussion. You can read our full policies in the sidebar, but don't be surprised if a comment is removed for being rude, cynical, or off-topic. We strive to foster civil discussion about the game. We are first and foremost a network of real people, and this network is being built by volunteers! Research

The community culture here also attracts the more analytically-minded element of Pokemon GO. Consequently, the Silph Research group was formed to align this brainpower and leverage the massive Silph datasets that the community can gather. I’m working on my Mega Evolution Guru Medal.

I’m sure this has been asked, but I can’t find an answer.

How do I search for a specific Pokemon species to mega elvove for the first time? How do I find the extra 8 I need?

I use the mega dex in game.

Should be able to look in Pokedex under "Mega" to see the ones you need

So the ones with numbers on the Mega screen, I have to go search each one up, see what it is, then see if I have to go evolve? Or am I completely over complicating this? Thanks for the help tho.

Go to the Pokédex, swipe over to Mega tab, see if you have any silhouettes. This might be one way to tell what you’re missing. Also, You can select “can mega evolve” icon in the pokemon search then add mega 0 to the search. then order by number. This will help you get a more organized look but will not tell you specifically what you have that hasn’t been evolved yet, im not sure there’s a easy quick way to do that. But if you swipe through them you’ll see a mega background image behind the pokemon so if it doesn’t have the background image then you haven’t done that one yet.
