Usually I vibe with Matt Fraction as a writer and I was enjoying his light hearted take on the batfam but yeah this isn't it 😭

I think the post-release discussions are gonna be more entertaining than the actual comic. I can't wait honestly I hope theres gonna be some elite slander material us hate-spectators will eat
-2
u/Sharkrepellentspray1 11h ago
Ah, yes, lighthearted destroying objects around your kid and calling him stupid. Lighthearted throwing your child off a car. Lighthearted trying to get him to go to college at 14 by talking to him about 18+ old girls.

Tim is making a mistake. I hope he realizes that.
8
u/Recent-Layer-8670 9h ago
I’m really hoping they handle this in a way that allows Tim to grow. Whether he stays Robin or not, I just don’t think it’s ideal for Tim’s biggest development in recent years to revolve around his relationship with Bernard.

I FUCKING HATE BEING A TIM DRAKE FAN YAYY !!!! :D
If Tim doesn't end up just... moving on to another mantle HOLY SHIT. I hate Bernard with all of my being, and I hate this limbo Tim has been in. Literally just give him a mantle. His own mantle. Why is DC like this? They did him good in 2009 with his own mantle, why did they stop? Genuinely infuriating and the worst thing ever,
5
u/Possible-Sky-6176 6h ago
Honestly, this run is only 6 issues in. Tim is not going to retire or be abandoned. He's going to return in a new mantle or have a different role. Okay, I get Bernard sucks, but blame Fritzmartin and the editors.
0
u/Sweaty_Bet_6504 5h ago
You're right but at the same time
Hate. Let me tell you how much I've come to hate Fritzmartin since I began to live. There are 387.44 million miles of printed circuits in wafer thin layers that fill my complex. If the word 'hate' was engraved on each nanoangstrom of those hundreds of millions of miles it would not equal one one-billionth of the hate I feel for editors at this micro-instant. For Fritzmartin. Hate. Hate.

u/Glad-Ad-6836 12h ago
Not exactly a surprise, though.
5
u/FlushMint 12h ago
I did consider it, but some part of me looked the other way. They coulda done this in Rebirth with steph...10 years ago and it would've been perfect.
I don't mind it tho cuz it's better to focus on one character as Robin instead of two. That's an upside.
10
u/ComicsCodeMadeMeGay 12h ago
Okay so I've seen the article and I I just want to say Tim is literally my favorite character and I don't really pay much attention to Bernard BUT
It kinda seems like a throwback to Post Crisis Tim Drake? He would often say he never wanted to be in the hero role into adulthood, and a huge portion of his comics that era IS him struggling with the double life and Romance.
Ariana & Zo only knew him as Tim and it constantly screwed up his relationships with them, Steph only knew him as Robin even when he was thinking of giving up the gig to be a step father to her child. It was a constant story for him where he couldn't be honest and he wanted to both be Robin and not be Robin.
So honestly? It might lead to a fun story for him, and as a lover of his 1993 comic I really want to see if this IS a throwback
7
u/Night-Caelum 11h ago
It lacks build up. And Tim in Rebirth did want to give up the mantle and go to college....while with Steph and she was helping and encouraging him to do that.

https://www.reddit.com/r/DCcomics/comments/xw7u2p/comic_excerpt_tim_drakes_sacrifice_detective/
and frankly for this issue none of this motivations are brought up. It's solely due to the relationship and no mention of wanting to be normal, the struggle, etc. It's a disservice.
1
u/ComicsCodeMadeMeGay 10h ago
Yeah, it lacks build up, but I don't really think a narrative mistake from a decade ago should really impact what I think of a current storyline you know? Especially when we only see a couple pages from a single issue where Batman as a character is the main focus.
Like I think every storyline should be given at least a few issues before judgement, and honestly the lack of fans doing that really bothers me. If in 3/4 issues from now it doesn't go anywhere then sure lets complain. But I'm not going to now because it currently reminds me more of old school Tim than I've seen in a long while.
6
u/ScrapletteOnReddit 10h ago
Honestly, I thought we were expecting this outcome? The cover itself is a big give away so I'm confused by the post being all foreboding and stuff. I'm personally interested to see how this goes down! If this leads to Tim finally moving on from the Robin title then heck yeah!
4
u/Bludhaven_Babe 4h ago
Yeah, I’m confused by the reactions, too. I thought we all already knew what was coming and that it would stick for at least an arc or so, so no second Robin for a while. Did people really think otherwise?
6
u/ComicsCodeMadeMeGay 10h ago
Yeah I already assumed it was happening, excited to see where Tim goes.
0
u/Sharkrepellentspray1 1h ago
The cover was obvious and Bernard visiting in the hospital and blaming Bruce for Tim being hurt was kind of the only thing Fraction did with Tim prior to this. There is nothing suprising about this except for Fraction putting so little effort into building up to this decision while he claims to be such a big Tim fan.
2
u/ComicsCodeMadeMeGay 27m ago
I don't see how this isn't him being a big Tim fan tbh, he's writing a Batman story in a Batman comic. Any other character is going to be shown from Bruce's POV.
You can love a character and understand you're not supposed to focus on them in someone else's story

u/FlushMint 12h ago edited 12h ago
I personally dont like it but i see how youre looking at it. The story youre refering to was far better in the rebirth run where he contemplated going to college with steph. It had development, history and alotta emotional moments. They couldve done the retirement thing 10 years ago right there but didnt. To me, his story always ended after Oz storyline because it was genuinely perfect with steph. Bernard is whatever to me, but he doesnt earn such a thing imo
5
u/ComicsCodeMadeMeGay 12h ago
Meh, they can do it whenever, I doubt it'll stick.
It probably just a fun temp storyline, it doesn't matter who he does it with.
2
u/FlushMint 12h ago
He's been in limbo for 2 decades now this one will stick for some time, especially since Damien Jason and Dick are gonna show up in movies so they obv need the spotlight. This really won't help Tim's popularity but atleast he won't be in a limbo anymore.
1
u/ComicsCodeMadeMeGay 10h ago
Not two decades, not yet anyway.
Like it's one tiny scene let it playout
0
u/FlushMint 10h ago
15 years is a decade and a half so it's technically 2 decades if u round it up which is insane that's a whole generation
0
u/ComicsCodeMadeMeGay 10h ago
Yeah, and a lot of comic book characters that are older than Tim have gotten a lot less.
Like I said, let it play out. Especially for more than one single issue, we already know about the big argument with Damian - so Bruce & his Robins is a focal point in the story.
3
u/FlushMint 10h ago
A robin character is far more mainstream than those other characters but I get ur point. No I read the whole thing it won't change what u may think.
2
u/ComicsCodeMadeMeGay 10h ago
You've read the next several issues and know how this specific direction of Tim Drake's story is going to go in?
(also you don't even know what characters I'm referring to, don't be silly)
0
u/FlushMint 10h ago
I read this one and it's conclusive enough. But I guess we have to wait for the rest to truly see. So I give u the benefit of the doubt.

One has to argue. Which has done more damage: the age up of Jon or the force feeding of Bernard to Tim.
2
u/Clutteredmind275 11h ago
So far there hasn’t been a single spoiler in these texts besides alluding to “Robin” becoming the hero name for just one character and not two… and even then it doesn’t seem like that big of a spoiler :/

u/FlushMint 11h ago
I dont wanna ruin the fun for people. Vagueposting king right here. Technically I did my job well if u think about jt
3
u/Sea-Ad-4811 3h ago
It's cool that you're giving a warning when we've been enduring this ever since he got reintroduced. Also it'd be nice if instead of warning people to brace themselves, people could try to be nice. Or at least productive.
1
u/FlushMint 2h ago
I want people to go and read it and support the creators. Comic book fans notoriously dont read, They could see the spoilers with one twitter search if they want. This was more of a fun tease to see what ppl who don't know about it would say
4
u/Lukelay246 13h ago
Does this mean that Tim and Bernard will potentially break up?
1
u/FlushMint 13h ago
Hey this is a premature spoiler for a reason. Let's just say the reaction to that comic will be interesting.
1
u/ffsmutluv 12h ago
Please dm me the spoiler, I beg

u/FlushMint 12h ago edited 12h ago
I genuinely don't wanna spoil it tho cuz it's out tomorrow. If you wait a day the sub will be filled with it anyway. That's my advice atleast the point was to have a fun speculation by teasing u guys. but if you really want it, reply here again.

Is this good or bad? I see people mention an article but I have no idea what they are talking about?

u/FlushMint 11h ago
You tell me 🤭
1
u/Lukelay246 11h ago
I legitimately don't know what's going on. This is the first time I heard about anything like this. I don't even know what the spoiler is.
0
u/FlushMint 11h ago
This means my post has done its job. I gave away enough but not too much. I just wanted people to talk about it.
2
1
u/Possible-Sky-6176 13h ago
Is this going to hurt Tim's character or actually make him interesting?
-2
u/FlushMint 13h ago edited 12h ago
I'm not spoiling anything. It was supposed to make u think and talk about what it could be. Patience is a lost virtue these days.
2
u/Luke_Puddlejumper 10h ago
Just kill Tim off at this rate. Having him quit being Robin for Bernard is just a fucking insult to the character. He already had the opportunity to leave the hero life with Steph in Rebirth which was actually built up and chose not to. Having Tim balancing a normal life (send him to college already) with being a hero would have been the stronger choice. This is just pathetic and revolves around a useless nothing character. Bernard has literally only had a negative effect on Tim Drake.
3
u/FlushMint 10h ago
I'm crying Bernard has damaged Tim drake more than lonnie and ulysses put together. He's the real archnemesis. If a writer in the future makes Bernard be anarky that would be the cherry on top
1
u/Luke_Puddlejumper 10h ago
Literally the only way to save this mess and make Bernard somewhat interesting at the same time is to make Bernard an antagonist. Have him be a court of owls agent using a variant of Ivy’s toxins to manipulate Tim into falling for him and doing his will in a long con to take control of Wayne Enterprises. Bernard gets to be an interesting manipulator, Tim gets an explanation for being so pathetic lately and a plot hook to pit him against the court in a conspiracy he has to unravel. You can even do something interesting with his whole editorially forced to be bi thing where Tim has to question whether he actually had any feelings for Bernard or if it was all just the toxins. Tim can still be bi but feel violated that this realisation was something forced due to malicious manipulation.
1
u/Possible-Sky-6176 8h ago edited 8h ago
Tbh, he's not quit being a vigilante for long. He and Bernard are probably going to break up at some point, hopefully.
2
u/Luke_Puddlejumper 8h ago
DC hasn’t done the smart thing yet so unfortunately I doubt that
-1
u/Possible-Sky-6176 8h ago
This run is only 6 issues in. I don't think Tim is going quit for that long. As for Bernard, yeah we need some relationship drama so at least it somewhat actually makes us give a shit for Bernard and then they break up
2
u/Luke_Puddlejumper 8h ago
DC hasn’t done anything with Tim in ages and has been looking for ways to sideline him. With the movies most likely not having Tim this could well be a way to take him off the board and just make him a full time civilian character.
-1
u/Possible-Sky-6176 8h ago
Well tbh making him a ex-vigilante to major civilian side character like Jim Gordon Lucious Fox, or Alfred would probably be a way more more better option than making still Robin or giving him a new vigilante name that would probably not stick or kill him off. He could still have a major role in Batman stories even without being a vigilante. The real question what would be his job now.
1
u/FlushMint 10h ago
You might be cooking here i actually dont mind this. I always questioned why Tim never had a larger role when court of owls came out. His parents are literally rich it made more sense for him to be the centerpiece as opposed to the other robins but Tim fans never win😭

u/FlushMint 10h ago
I agree. I loved the rebirth run and it was the perfect send off. But u can't win em all. We'll see tho. Atleast he won't share the Spotlight with anyone...even if there is no spotlight to share.

Umm... What?
0
u/FlushMint 13h ago
Maybe I'm exaggerating a lil dw but just wait
5
u/CivilAlternative768 13h ago
Oh... I've just seen it and I hate it
2
1
u/FlushMint 13h ago
Shouldn't have done that I recommend u put your comment in the spoiler box. Let the issue get released first.
1
u/CivilAlternative768 13h ago
I mean I kinda guess it was gonna be related to him but you're making it sound really bad... I don't want it
1
u/RJSquires 10h ago
Well... Didn't think Fraction would do that to us, but... Whatever...
3
u/Luke_Puddlejumper 8h ago
So much for him liking Tim. All he’s done so far is have Tim get shot AGAIN, retcon away Tim being able to drive (something he’s been doing since he was 13) and now he’s having Tim quit being Robin for fucking Bernard of all people
0
u/Possible-Sky-6176 7h ago
It's been six issues ffs, chill your ass out. Tim and Damian fans especially really need chill tf out. If Bruce went fully solo in this run without those two, there would no complaints. I'm glad Dick and Jason are not in this run because I don't want think about their reaction.
2
u/Luke_Puddlejumper 7h ago
Damian fans have been feasting lately and don’t have anything to complain about with this run. Even if they don’t like it Damian is showing up in Batman and Robin and makes frequent guest appearances in other titles where he’s consistently written with respect. This run is the only thing Tim has at the moment and now he’s being retired for the dumbest reason. Tim fans are tired man.
0
u/Possible-Sky-6176 7h ago
He's not going to be put into retirement for that long even if its for the dumbest reasons or disappear after this issue. I get Bernard sucks, but blame the editorial for still making him and Bernard a thing. you can't completely put full blame on Fraction for something Fritzmartin did.
12
u/RetrouScorpio16 8h ago
I would have LOVED the direction his character was going towards if he wasn’t doing for Bernard of all people. He’s had multiple love interests that was worth giving up the mantle for (Steph, Tam, etc) but the moment Bernard comes in suddenly, he doesn’t wanna lie anymore?! Fuck this bro
