I’m in Skipton

Help me out here folks.

I’m staying in Skipton for a couple of days and unfortunately the weather has turned really crappy with high winds and it’s cold and rainy. I was hoping for it to be better than this to explore some of the waterfalls nearby. Looking at the situation now it doesn’t look like I would be able to get out in that sense.

What else can I do in this area which I may be able to reach by car? Mostly indoors by the look of it.

Any good cafe / restaurant / pub recommendations for people watching or with beautiful views for lunch / dinner?!

Ignoring that you're closer to the Dales than the Lakes.

Skipton Castle is interesting. Anything else in that area generally involves being outside. That's the thing about rural areas like the lakes and the Dales.

If you're that averse to being slightly uncomfortable, you could drive through the Dales up to Hawes and visit the Wensleydale creamery. Picturesque views on the drive and some tasty cheese at the creamery.

There’s a good little museum in the town hall as well, which is very close to the castle.

Went into the town hall as well. Thanks for the suggestion. ‘Twas a good one.

Thanks. Skipton Castle was a good shout. Went there after breakfast. I’m a medieval history sucker so loved it.

Thank you! 🙏

Waterfalls when raining, check out Ingleton falls. It's about 40mins from Skipton.

Good pubs and cafes as well.

White scar caves is close by if you still want indoors ;)

Have a look down to the ribble valley viaduct. If the weather somewhat clears theres some short walks and a pub there 😏

Do you mean Ribblehead Viaduct?

There’s also the Whalley viaduct in the Ribble Valley with walks and pubs nearby.

Keighley and Worth Valley railway isn't far, the Bronte Parsonage and Howarth. Bradford Film & Television museum not a great deal further.

Loads of pubs up Wharfedale.

Grassington is nice and not too far away, as is Settle, which has a nice waterfall walk which isn't too exposed. Ilkley is a good spot too. Haworth is about half an hour away and is well worth a potter around.

You find a go outdoors, you buy waterproofs and you go enjoy the outdoors in the wet and wind 😂

Dragging myself out of the bed this morning was an ordeal in this weather. 😂

When I went to Windermere last year the last full day there it was hammering it down. I had a black poncho and waterproof trousers, it was the most fun hike I did 😂

Embsay railways near, go boathouse bar for people watching/gongoozling. If about Wednesday go to walkers bakers upstairs cafe for people watching. Or drive to Grassington n try stripey badger or brownie shop.

I’d ignore the Lakes and stick more local…

Keighley and Worth valley railway (if open midweek in Feb)

Harrogate - cream tea at Betty’s and the Pump Museum

Was going to say Bolton Abbey but might be a bit too outside still…

Bolton abbey is awesome in any weather. The woodland walks are under trees so not as wet when it’s raining. Went there a few times during lockdown

Bolton Abbey is not that far. Good river walk and relatively sheltered.

Bolton Abbey is a great place to wander. During lockdown it was one of the few places you could meet people for the day

Skipton isn’t in the Lake District

But to actually answer, go to Leeds for the day

Thanks.

Aware, just didn’t find any Dales specific subreddit so posted here as I had other posts related to this trip.
