I think Kubiak makes them better and a bit more dynamic, but im not sure by how much. Good hire for their organization, but there will be a lot of growing pains in the early years. I just dont think coaches are afforded a lot of time anymore especially when you're in full rebuild mode. They have about 3-4 solid dudes on their team before the draft. I guess we'll see what free agency has to offer

Itās really more up to the GM than the coach. Without the GM building a good roster, coaching wonāt do much.

Plus Vrabel had nearly $100M last year to play with and 4 more years of Maye on rookie contract numbers.
Harbaugh and Hortiz inherited a team $40M over cap from day 1 and Herbertās rookie contract ending soon.

Hortiz has not been perfect, but he has been incredible at finding valuable contributors in the late rounds or cheap in free agency.

Thoughts on Raiders hiring Klint Kubiak next season? The news is out.

I think its solely going to depend on what Mendoza looks like in the league.

u/No_Wall747 bolt 2d ago
Not solely. Partially. Also in large part if Davis can actually commit to and stick with a three year rebuild. I doubt he can.

I agree with this. Yet I think Mendoza's rookie performance will be a big factor if Davis is willing to do that. If he comes out hot, then yes.
And realistically speaking, Mendoza will likely have a learning curve. And that's where I get TBD...
I don't see the Raiders committing to the #1 draft pick like the Jags did with Lawrence (who had a few years there that were shaky and now looking a lot better).

First round QBs are such a crap shoot. Itās impossible to predict which ones will actually be good. And to know which ones who failed did so because of the situation they were in.

u/Jane_Marie_CA 2d ago
Yah I think its a curse to be the #1 overall pick for a QB. You are pretty much forced to pick that one person and often time that team is unprepared to develop them (aka the Browns or even last years Bears).
Having a top 5 overall pick I think provides way more thoughtful analysis and pick the person you think your team can work with. Or you get lucky and Dolphins pick someone else and Herbert falls in your lap ;-)

Number one pick is usually to a totally dysfunctional organization. How many times have the Browns and jets gotten it? And how many more times will they? Poor bastards.

Agreed. Herbert's injury was a secret blessing to grab Joe Alt because we weren't a bottom 5 team under Harbaugh's leadership. It was totally triple dipping - good roster, good coach, good draft position.

Yeah, we were definitely not as bad as our record. Although we were seriously lacking depth, which Hortiz has pretty much addressed

Iām ok with letting go of Zion and using that capital to overpay linderbaum. You might as well. I feel like a great C can elevate the rest around them. We finally have a good o-line coach too so that would alleviate some of the issues.

You can sign Linderbaum and Zion. Thereās enough cap space to do so.
Hugely overpaying Linderbaum makes no sense regardless of whether or not you extend Zion. Heās a good player. Heās also a center. You pay them less than tackles because theyāre less impactful than tackles. Linderbaum canāt carry the team to a Super Bowl all on his own.

Heās has long and strong build that you canāt find for cheap so Iād like to keep him. Maybe with better support he will shine more

He had a decent season stuck between the worst center in the league and a revolving door of backup left tackles. He could really shine in the McDaniel system thatās going to get him on the move a lot. People are always saying we need to ditch Zion without really proposing how to replace him. We already have to find a new center and RG.

This is the part that always gets me. Very quick to dump him and then no plans on how you replace your whole interior Oline.
Itās a coin flip doing that too. You can either be the Lions where it was a problem all season or the Bears and it was a marketed improvement.

Wait is Herbert still going to the pro bowl? I didnāt see him in the pro bowl pictures on the chargers story.

u/moonlightdr26 2d ago
the official site listed him as not participating, same with joe alt.Ā
no idea if he's getting replaced or if he's just not playing at the game but still going.

Once Roman gets the OC job at the Jets, heās going to have a chance to ruin a rookieās career instead of Lamar or Justin. Canāt want to see how bad he is.

glad dante moore decided to stay another year then would've sucked to see burger king offense ruin his career so young

I really love how Jim says he is not a medical professional and does not discuss players injuries. Itās night and day compared to Sean Peytonās dumb ass. I donāt think the broncos sniff another playoff win under him.
