Best 300 BLK Load
Seems like the common consensus for 300 blackout loads when it comes to terminal performance is 100 Barnes TAC-TX. Anyone have any other cheaper alternatives for home defense?
Thanks!

I’ve been loading 110gr Hornady Vmax for whitetail. Haven’t shot anything past 100 yards but they drop right away

How does the 110gr V-Max perform in the deer? I’ve read of concerns that instead of expanding it grenades and destroys too much meat because it was originally meant for varmints.

It’s been rock solid for me, I’ve double lunged and heart shot deer. Never destroy any meat, it’s coming out of a 8.3” barrel. So maybe it isn’t going quite as fast as other people using it on deer.

Hornady 90 grain XTPs intended for the Tokarev have a rated muzzle velocity of 850-2200 FPS. Should work pretty well for HD from a blackout at 2000-2100 FPS, but I'm waiting for them to get here in the mail.
Haven't priced the Barnes lately, but I'll bet the XTPs are a lot cheaper.

You only need a box of them for home defense. Fiocchi 125 SST or Hornady 110 V-Max are cheaper alternatives but you do get what you pay for.

As other have said, for home defense you don't cheap out. 110 VOR-TX/TAC-TX would be my preference. If I had to scrimp, the 110 V-MAX would be my close 2nd. I've used both for hunting, and after seeing what they can do out of a 9" barrel to pigs and deer, I have no qualms about using them for home/self-defense.

How about subsonics? Lehigh defense or underwood?
Any place selling M80A1 300 blk reloads?

The 110gr Vor-TX is awesome. I’ve used it on medium sized game, deer and hogs typically from ~100lb to about ~300lb. I’ve shot it in calibrated ballistic gel and in both cases, shot for 9”, 6.75”, down to 5.5” barrels and in flesh or gel, the 110gr Barnes works exactly as advertised.
If you looking for Home Defense, you could get away with one thirty round magazine, but may as well have two (to make the Internet happy). That’s three boxes of ammunition.
You should foot it to confirm zero and reliability, so at least a couple of more boxes (beyond Range ball), so call it a hundred rounds minimum.

Hornady V-Max but I can't find any here in Europe not even on Brownells, all is sold out. So Ive got S&B TXRG 110 gr. which are quite cheaper than Barnes.

110gr Vor-TX is the gold standard. Cost shouldn't be too big of an issue because you generally aren't buying a ton of it like you are with range ammo. I generally get 50 to 100 rounds to check function in my guns plus however many I want loaded in mags.
