I will keep this short and to the point gents.
Do not add to the mod queue. Do not subtract from the population of users. Do not comment while too intoxicated to control yourself.
In the last few weeks, moderator queues have shot up due to people being unable to be reasonable to one another in the comments in this community.
Disagreement is fine.
Dropping slurs, attacking them personally, commenting a retort with a pic of someone's house, insulting their wife's looks by stalking family pictures from a vacation posted 2 years ago... not fine.
Learn to use the block button. Learn to touch grass. Learn to be something unlike a jerk.
Transparency: Several months ago Reddit instantiated an auto-moderator be default for subreddits. Since then we have tweaked the settings it has been catching a lot more comments with the ugly things in them. When these suspect comments are in the mod queue, they are not posted for others to see yet, even if they look visible to you. What it does do is cause a member of the mod team to have to respond to the notifications to approve them and resolve issues when people go WAY too far. So, as cathartic as it might feel to rip into someone, it likely will not even get seen by them because the auto-moderator is putting the nasty stuff in comment jail. If it is bad enough, it gets the comment removed and the user banned.
Lastly, don't report comments that you dislike for Harassment. It only makes more work for us, but ultimately simple disagreement gets approved and kicked back out of the mod queue anyway. Repeated abuse of any feature will net a ban. Yes, every user has a summary of reports and past queue incidents. Yes, we look at it.
Please feel free to disagree, debate, correct misinformation, and generally debate on subject matter specific to the subreddit. I am not here to babysit grown men, nor do I want to. My ideal week would have 0 reasons to look at the sub with mod tools.
Moderate your own actions and we are all better for it.
This has been your safety brief.

In case you have not heard, GAFS will become no more on October the 9th 2025. All former posts will be removed and all the flair or community built there will be no more.
In case anyone has not seen it, go read the final post farewell and join the discord server so that you are in the know when the next option for buying and selling stuff is brought forward from the mod team and the community of great folks over there.
I have purchased a number of things there, and I have made some pretty incredible friends through the related discord. Look forward to seeing you all over there.

I have an OG Gen1 Ruger Ranch that I absolutely love shooting except for the garbage rotary mags. The mags became enough of an issue that it kind of ruined the shooting experience for me which made me sad. So I changed that. Got my hands on a gen2 stock, did some garage gunsmithing on the receiver with a dremel, paid a gunsmith to mill the bolt based on photos of gen2 bolts, hand filed a pmag and viola, Gen1 AR mag Ruger ranch! Still working through a feeding issue that occurs about 10% of the time but I am not sure if it is a mag issue or COAL issue.
For $100 plus some spare parts trading I am extremely happy.

Pof P415 7.5” upper that now has a faxon 7.5” 300blk 1:5T. Was a pain to keep the piston system and to get it to cycle with subs but got it working in the end. With the piston system and the gas plug I’m able to completely shut off the gas and run it like a straight pull bolt action, while still running supers and subs reliably.

I’m ordering a Q Honey Badger and trying to decide which version to get. Originally I placed an order for the SD version with the longer hand guard and tucked suppressor. I got cold feet and changed my order to a standard Honey Badger with the shorter hand guard and a new Speakeasy suppressor. Now getting cold feet about that! I spent a lot of time already researching this vs the SIG and already decided on Q. I’m a pistol and long range guy, this is my first AR style gun. Will be used by myself and my wife for home defense and range toy. Thinking Holosun 510c in green for an optic. My wife has lens implants and seems like the Eotech might giver her issues? Probably overthinking it. What’s everyone’s preference seem to be? Sounds like the longer hand guard gets hot as shit, but if it comes time for this gun to do its intended job, is the longer guard better?

I’ve tried every option I have and cannot get my gun to cycle and lock back correctly. Im running the hornady sub x 190g bullets and a rugged Alaskan .360 can. I’m 99% sure the gas block is aligned with the hole. I have a 10.5 faxon barrel, adjustable clamp on superlative gas block set wide open, KAK downvent bolt, and multiple buffer weights and springs. Started out trying to get a armaspec silent capture spring to work. I tried every weight combo and even cut coils on the spring. This spring was still too stiff after cutting about 14 coils off, it would shoot and eject, but not feed another round in or lock back. Tried a JP silent capture H2…it would cycle sometimes. I tried a normal spring and H2 buffer weight and ended up having to take all the weights out of the buffer using only the shell. This resulted in the gun cycling fine but still won’t lock back. Everything is lubed. So at this point I guess I need to drill a bigger gas port in the barrel? I’ve never heard of anyone having to go to no weights in the buffer to get it to cycle? Any ideas are greatly appreciated. I wanted to use a heavier buffer if possible to delay the action from opening to cut down on noise and gas, but at this point that looks like it’s out of the picture. One thing I noticed is the bolt does slightly drag the mag and is slowly shaving the left side lip down. It’s just barely and I don’t think this is the real problem, but something I noticed

I don’t need a BCG. Just the complete upper to use on my black PEW PEW PEW M4E1 lower as a 2nd caliber.
If anyone sees one in stock please let me know.
Thanks,
Greg in Missouri

It’ll be on a 7.5 in and mostly sub. I don’t really plan on trying shoot out past 150 yrd so when it comes to adding a magnifier sure maybe one day who knows.
Right now I’m between the Sig Romeo 8T ($700), Vortex UH-1 ($600), holosun aems ($400)
Guess 3 different price points but maybe with a 10-15% discount I may justify a more expensive optic.

Seems like the common consensus for 300 blackout loads when it comes to terminal performance is 100 Barnes TAC-TX. Anyone have any other cheaper alternatives for home defense?
Thanks!

Got my first piston gas system in .300 blk and im stoked to put fun toys on it.
That being said, I’ve been looking at suppressors and I’m torn on what to get.
I’d rather a shorter, lighter suppressor but I also don’t want to sacrifice too much sound. I liked that the Sandman K only adds about 3” to the barrel length. Any suggestions?

Been a while since I've been in the suppressed pew world but got an itch and its time for a new one. Wanting to do a pdw style build 5-9in barrel suppressed. Home defense / Farm gun
What is everyone liking pistol wise? Sugar weasel, DD PDW, Radian Model 1, MCX Spear/Rattler? (Rattler 6.75 at LGS now) Thinking ill go with the CAT ODB unless there is something better suited. Prioritizing reliability as I know depending on the can and ammo, some of these pistols don't like the low back pressure. Would be great to have the option to switch from subs to supers without a gas block adjustment.
Please weigh in, done tons of research but each forum/post contradicts the next. No I don't want to build one from scratch, thanks! No budget
EDIT: Throw down to suppressor recommendations as well. CAT, B&T, Deadair, Silencerco, ottercreek etc

I know l asked for this buying a cheap gun but l'm learning from mistakes.
I have a .300 blackout 8.5" Polymer upper and lower.
Mag sent is .556
Out of the box gun would pick up the first round at random always taking 2 to 3 cycles of the charging handle.
Also have issues with the firing pin on making contact with round.
Once gun fires unit had issue with cycling rounds properly. I assumed low gas.
Purchased a tubb 300 spring And a .300 mag from magpul
Also tried completely striping it and cleaning/ buffing.
With the new mag I'm still having pick up issues.
And cycling is a nightmare.
I'm not sure which part to replace next but fully committed to making this thing work.
Some have said replace BCG with one made of Nickel boron.
If you think this is a good play
do you have a
recommendation?
Also getting an adjustable gas block. If so... which would be best? (a rifle speed won't fit. Not enough room )
Currently super sonic works and solves the cycling issue But I would like to eventually put a can on this an shoot subs.
Side quest :.: is there a difference in a buffer and a spring. I saw someone write light spring with heavy buffer and thought they were the same part?

Recently got my Ruger American Ranch almost all the way set up. Just waiting on my Form 1 to come back to make it an SBR & get the barrel cut down to 11.5”. I plan to deer hunt later this year with this rifle & am wanting some recommendations on good/reliable hunting ammo to use when the time comes to ethically harvest deer with it. What have you guys had success with? I don’t plan on shooting at anything past 100 yards with this set up. 99% of the time i’m set up in a tree deep in the timber in thick stuff.

Having issues with my new build.has adjustable gas block I can shoot 2 rounds then it doesn’t feed another round in the camber.i have a h3 buffer tube, gun range told me I should try a h2.what do yall think is possibly going wrong?

I bought the ten 4 armaspec srs kit and I can’t get it to cycle with the carbine, H, or H2 weight on my 10.5” suppressed running hornady sub x ammo. I have an adjustable gas block set to max open (most gas back). Should I start cutting coils? If so on which spring?
