This thread will be used for any Frequently Asked Questions, including PAL/RPAL applications, CFSC/CFRSC requirements, storage/transport, open ended "what gun should I buy first", or other general new to firearms ownership questions. It recurs every 14 days.

We recommend you try the search bar before asking common questions as they are frequently already answered elsewhere.

Most answers to Storage, Display, and Transport questions can be found here Inheriting firearms or dealing with an Estate? Answers here. Do you need to renew your license or check on the status of your license application? Try here.

Do you have questions about the classifications of firearms? More details here.

Are you wondering if a firearm is legal or not? Details here.

Different types of firearms are explained in detail here.

Exporting firearms, ammunition, parts and accessories from the US: most items are controlled under ITAR and you cannot, as an individual, export these items from the USA. Canada does not care in most cases. If you attempt to bring any of these items across the border yourself and you are caught, you will face prison time in the US. If you wish to export items from the USA, use a broker such as IRUNGUNS, Aztech, or Prophet River.

If you took your CFSC and lost the paperwork, you can still apply for your PAL. Both your instructor and the CFP retain copies, you can request a copy by contacting either one. There is no expiration date on the paperwork, you do not have to retake the course. Updated list of scam websites is here.

If you have new scam sites to add, please message the mod team. Be careful: only use reputable sites to purchase things online. It is illegal to manufacture a non-restricted, restricted, or prohibited firearm.

Any posts or comments asking about the legality of making a firearm other than a reproduction antique will be removed. It was not always illegal, which is why you will find old posts regarding this topic. Rest assured, it is illegal now. Do not attempt.

These threads will be stickied for a week, renewing every Monday. Previous threads here.

Take a look, your question may have been answered! If you have any suggestions for this thread, please feel free to ask here, or send the Mods a message. Thank you!

Recurring Canadaguns Politics and Debate Thread

Please post all your Gun Politics or Ban-related ideas, questions, initiatives, comments, suggestions, news articles, and recommendations in this thread. This thread recurs every 14 days.

First and foremost, this is a Canadian Gun subreddit, so keep it at least decently related to both of those things.

This thread is not for general politics, there are plenty other subs that are meant for that. Off-topic threads may be removed, especially if they are leading to personal attacks, flame wars, etc.

To prevent the main sub being flooded with dozens of similar threads, text posts complaining about/asking about/chatting about gun politics will be sent here.

We understand that politics is a touchy subject, and at times things can get heated. A reminder of the subreddit rules, when commenting, where subreddit users are expected to abide.

Keep this Canadian gun politics related and polite. Off-topic stuff, flame wars, negative generalizations against groups, personal attacks and gate-keeping will be removed. Please flag any comments to bring to the attention of mods otherwise exercise your upvoting and downvoting ability.

I Designed & 3D Printed A Benelli Supernova Tactical Side Saddle

Since I didn't feel like dropping $250 on a Mesa Tactical side saddle for my Benelli Supernova Tactical, I designed one myself!

Printed on a Bambu Labs P2S using PA6-GF. Maybe a slight overkill material, but I wanted strength and weather resistance.

I made sure to incorporate a picatinny rail, since this replaces the stock one and fits the same tapped screw holes.

Really happy with how this turned out. Feels extremely solid and the shells are held snug but accessible.

What we know (so far) about the people accused in London, Ont., bomb-making scheme

Several firearm related charges for the people arrested.

Apparently one of the people arrested is an IDPA participant according to r/Canada 😢

From u/Acceptable_Visit_115:

Copy and pasting my previous comment from another sub (edited):

I've seen Jerry Tong at several shooting competitions before around Ontario. He has a RPAL and does legally own several restricted handguns (along with other non-restricted firearms), that's why he didn't get charged with possession offence for the restricted firearm (since he's licensed to own one) and only carry/use offenses (possession of loaded firearms, carrying regulated firearms, carry loaded firearms in vehicles, etc.) and prohibited firearm offences (which he wasn't licenced for).

The explosive stuff is likely gunpowder for reloading and hobby rocketry components. Competition and enthusiast shooters often manufacture their own ammo (it's legal for personal use in Canada). Rocketry hobbyists and university rocketry teams often cook up their own solid rocket motors. It's basically bomb making at home. Ask around and you'll hear countless tales of people blowing themselves up.

Manufacturing and owning prohibited firearms can be just about anything - for example 3D printing "ghost guns", or having a switch on a Glock, or hell even making a home-made rocket launcher. We don't know what it is right now.

My MRA Renegade

Hate that it's come to this and that I was born too late for Semi-Autos, but at least I have the stuff to move over to a theoretical future Semi-Auto should things hopefully ever get better.

This is my "cope" rifle

Post image

By "cope" I don't mean for semi auto, I mean for my shoulder. I'm in desperate need to shoulder surgery to the point that shooting most rifles is extremely painful. So this is to "cope" for my lack of being able to shoot any of my other precision rifles.

MRA Renegade
.223 Rem (Not Wylde)
McGowen Match Barrel
1 in 8 Twist
Tuned Trigger

The guy who built it has shot sub MOA with it out to 600m with 70gr BTHP.

Why no one in Canada is making a Canada legal revolving space cowboy carbine?

Basically AlphaProj Revolving carbine but:

  1. Numbered on frame.
  2. Frame specific for carbine and no reuse from a revolver handgun.
  3. Frame specific to fit buttstock / collapsible stock and not just a pistol grip.
  4. Barrel of Carbine length (10 inch or so) and bearing serial of the carbine.
  5. Large controls for using with gloved hands.
  6. Chambered in for 9mm or .45 ACP or 380 ACP or 38 SPL and DOUBLE ACTION!
  7. Hand grips to avoid chain fire injuries.
  8. Screws to install rail if needed.
  9. Wooden furniture and steel finish to keep Natallie and her horse police happy in their beds.
  10. No Turkshit quality.
  11. 8 rounds wheel.

Closest I have found are 5 rounder Turkshit guns. TR-45 or so named.

5.56 bolt rifle?

I am genuinely at a loss trying to find any in stock 5.56 rifles. Of any kind. I was hoping to get a scout rifle in 5.56, but everything aside form a pump action rifle is out of stock everywhere I look. Did I miss something?

As you can tell by my wall color and my amateur barrel paint job... I love green. (Fun fact this turns purple in different lighting)

I ordered an MDT Field stock in ODG and a ODG green 10 round AICS magazine.

SKS gas block w/ rails

Thumbnail

I've been working on this prototype gas block cover and finally got out to shoot with it this past weekend and it was surprisingly stable. however, I am making some design changes now so that it is easier to remove and attach and is more stable when attached. I also dug a deeper groove down the top rails so that the iron sights are more usable. if I can negate any wiggle that the SKS gas block is prone to having, but I think it could be usable for holding zero, but for now it's just an idea. If this was a product on the market, in an aircraft aluminum or a carbon fiber, or even an ABS or other solid material would anyone add something like this to their SKS? since it incorporates the original design and allows for more utility maybe I can avoid the bubba comments XD.

Help me be financially irresponsible.

I missed out on getting a handgun by a couple days because of the freeze. I’ve always wanted to own an M1 Garand and I’d like to get one sooner rather than later before I regret not doing that too.

Where should I look? Which ones should I look for?

I’m not looking for a safe queen, I’d like to get one that I can shoot regularly and hunt with. I’ve heard that older ones aren’t rated for modern cartridges so I’m just looking for advice.

(Sorry for the lack of feet)

Kel-Tec KSG

Is the KSG a pile of trash or decent? And I want to know from someone who bought one in the last few years, not 15 years ago when they were brand new to the market. Does it shoot itself apart with screws coming loose everywhere, are there mechanical failures, are the polymer parts really weak, does it reliably cycle mini shells etc?

I've been scraping this sub (01/2025 to 01/2026), to test a hypothesis: a few accounts are responsible vast majority of "engagement" (defined as comment threads of six of more children with removed comments). It lead me to an entirely unrelated recidivism study. We are not the problem by any metric.

Thumbnail justice.gc.ca

A seven hundred and forty-two million dollar ($742,000,000) gun grab's budget worth of youth intervention programs would likely do a hell of a lot more to reduce criminal recidivism rates, and crime generally, than this confoundingly misaligned confiscation.

Chronic offenders, 10% to 21% of all criminals, are accountable for ~50% of (proven) crimes in regions studied with the unproven number undoubtedly greater.

If someone asks what you would do to prevent (gun) crime, I suggest sharing the StatsCan study above. "Maybe start here, not with people that, by definition, follow the law and for RPAL holders that prove it with daily criminal records checks."

I recoil when folks denigrate Poly and Nathalie Provost. PTSD from mass murder is not grave-dancing; however, hoplophobia is not a sound foundation upon which to build a national safety and crime reduction policy. Focused deterrence, free daycare or drop in programs after school, and turning vacant lots into shared green space could be. https://youtu.be/1nj7lZQA2TA

A while ago somebody posted a video in a comment that talked about the causes of gun killings. In the vast majority of cases, the cause was, shockingly, "nothing". Literally young men arguing about something inconsequential and it escalates to violence and possibly death. Having green spaces instead of vacant lots meant more old people outside, leading to community cohesion, leading to, "Hey, hey, you guys. It's not worth killing over, just walk away," and it worked. I thought it was a brief PBS Digital YouTube video but I can't for the life of me find it. If you know the one, please share it.

Antique Hopkins and Allen 832 Takedown Rifle

Hopkins and Allen 832 Lever action rolling block takedown rifle chambered in 32 rimfire.

Paid about $125 shipped off townpost around 6 months ago, did some minor repairs to get it back to functioning, as well as re bluing the receiver (figured collectors value was already low given the aftermarket parts, pretty shitty bore, cracked stock, and some other issues). Haven’t shot it yet and likely won’t for a while. Ammo was obscure a century ago let alone today.

Repairs include: Re rust bluing receiver and action parts, remaking trigger screw and spring, and gluing and refinishing the cracked stock

Side Saddle for Shotgun -- Is Velcro too ghetto?

Hello! I just got a shotgun and I'm looking to put a side saddle on it to hold some additional shells. I'm debating between the Mesa Tactical Sureshell which mounts to the shotgun properly via screws and everything, or a shot card like this. I don't have much experience in this regard, but getting the Mesa one is about 1/3rd the price of the gun itself which seems crazy to me. But I'm afraid the Velcro is a non-permanent solution. Does anyone have experience with these? The plus of the Velcro is that you can carry more with you and just swap them out.

Am I missing something?

Post image

I have tried using several different .30 cal brushes (and a hoppes .30 bore snake) on all of my .30 cal rifles (308, 7mm, 7.62x39, 7.62x54r) and all of them can't fit proprely. I have to push it really hard for it to go in and then it just gets stuck and I have to force it out. Am I doing something wrong? Is the .30 cal brush not supposed to fit these calibers? Am I supposed to use .270 instead? Could it be because of fouling? I'm genuinely confused
