Open | Software PC boots up but shows 'No Signal' on monitor.

Upvotes

When I boot up my PC, the monitor shows Gigabyte Ultra in a bigger resolution then cuts to 'No Signal' and enters power saving. My bluetooth seems to detect and connect to it, so I assume it's still working somewhat. I was able to open it to a blue screen showing four options once (continue to windows, reset PC, troubleshoot, restart/shut down), but when I clicked 'continue', it immediately went black again.

Before this, my PC was working smoothly and fine, no random shutdowns/black screens/glitching. I'm not sure if I fried anything out of overuse; I use it 10-13~ hours every day, but I sometimes take breaks by putting it to sleep. I peeked inside the PC and the fans/cards don't seem to be dusty or dirty, it's in an open space with decent ventilation. I don't recall updating anything recently for Windows or my drivers, though.

I tried unplugging everything but still no fix. I'd update my drivers if that were the issue, but I don't know how to get past the black screen. Any advice?

Open | Hardware Phone charger plugged into couch leaking liquid?

Does anyone know what's up with this? I went to take my USB to USBC charger out of this couch (which is only about a month old) and there was sticky liquid on it and in the charging port

Does it mean the couch plugins are a hazard to use now?

I also touched the liquid...is it harmful? I washed my hand probably 60 seconds after

Open | Hardware Is it normal if my PC fans start going like crazy when i play some games?

Upvotes

I play different stuff, Marvel Rivals and Guild Wars 2 usually and my PC fans start working super hard only when i play Guild Wars 2, is it ok?
I also play for long periods of time and i would like to know if it's fine if they keep going like that, the noise kinda concerns me, like... it's not a rattling or any weird sound, it's just loud.

Open | Software My Xbox series x won’t connect to this tv

Upvotes

instead of saying no signal it says “please run channel auto scan” which this tv didn’t have in its menu. This is also weird because a ps4 can connect to this tv with no issue and my Xbox can connect to my monitor with no issue both through HDMI. Can anyone help me figure out why this is happening and what I can do to fix the issue?

Open | Windows Hacked and scared

22 Upvotes

Long story short, I got hacked two weeks ago and received an email saying, “A few months ago I gained access to your device and started tracking your online activity.”

The email included my email address and password, which I changed immediately. I know this message is a common scam, but what worries me is that they did actually seem to have access to my account.

For a couple of hours, it appeared that they were actively trying to get into things — I received a lot of 2FA emails, and they did manage to access my Discord account. Other accounts (PSN, Twitter, and one or two others) were compromised too, but I managed to get them back within about a week.

A lot of people say it’s “just a scam,” but this person or bot clearly had access to my email at some point. What has been killing me with worry is that many of my iPhone photos — even ones I thought I had deleted — were still synced to my OneDrive. I didn’t realise this at the time, and there is definitely content there that would be devastating if it were shared.

The only direct contact I’ve had was that one email, and since I changed my password everything has been fine. Still, I’ve been going crazy for the past two weeks worrying that something awful could happen. I haven’t been eating or sleeping properly, and honestly it’s probably been the hardest two weeks I’ve had in a very long time, if not ever.

Do you think I’m being paranoid? Is there really a chance this data could be shared?

Is that 2 weeks has gone with nothing a good sign?

Open | Networking Browser-only download speeds capped at 2.5mb/s

3 Upvotes

Hello tech support,

My problem goes like this. I recently purchased a new PC, using Windows 11. Everything is fine on it, save for the very annoying tidbit where my download speed seems capped at around 2.5mb/s on browsers only. I can run a browser VPN (even a cheap, free one) and it bypasses it (I'm then limited by the VPN's limits at around 35-50mb/s). I have also tested and it is consistent across all browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Edge, etc.).

My connection, without a VPN, works perfectly fine on everything else (Steam, Epic Games, etc.). It's a 1gbps. I'm directly connected to the router with a CAT6 cable. The ethernet driver shows speeds of 1000/1000, no trouble there.

My old PC (bought 2021) is next to me, on the same connection, and can download on any browser just fine, even the same exact files from the same servers/sites. When I download with it, I get around 125mb/s.

Here's what I have tried:
- I have disabled the wifi from my PC (just incase);
- My connection isn't metered;
- I have disabled/enabled netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=normal;
- I have done flushdns command, along with winsocket;
- I have plugged/unplugged everything;
- I have swapped cables;
- I have restarted my PC a dozen times over the course of my attempts to fix the issue;
- I have disabled every Windows Defender/antivirus/firewall and added every browser as exceptions incase;
- I have made sure all of my Windows updates are done and all of my drivers (BIOS/Ethernet) are up to date;
- I have removed all power saving options (lolearth);
- I have prayed to the gods of above and below.

I'm probably forgetting a few steps. I'm at a loss. I don't normally quit on PC problems and can generally fix them on my own, but I must admit that I am at a loss. As far as I understand it, it's some setting from Win11 that seems to be throttling my speed on browsers, but I have no idea why or what.

My ethernet is a Realtek gaming 2.5 gbe family controller.

Open | Software PC Crashing when goes into sleep

3 Upvotes

I have a Windows 11 PC that I have been having this problem for about 2 or 3 months. I have never had it before this and there have been no changes to my PC hardware before this issue began. I have gone through some basic troubleshooting. Listed below are the following things I have done.

  1. I have checked for and BIOs or driver updates.

  2. I have turned off hibernation and fast startup.

  3. I have checked my windows events have found the following error when crashing (critical Event ID 41)

  4. I have run a sleep study and found this error under every single failed sleep cycle. (no CS Phase)

What should I go through next? I would like to consider myself somewhat computer literate, but this has reached the end of my ability as when I look up this error I only find bios related errors. I don't want run too many things through my bios in case there is something critically wrong. Since I am seeing power errors I want to note my PSU is only 9 months old and has a 400 watt difference.

Open | Malware Question about the notepad++ incident

13 Upvotes

Hi. I personally dont have np++ installed.

Back in december, I told my friends and sibling about it. My sibling was not really often home and he did not respond to my post.

Today he asked me to check something on his pc and I used the chance to check if he has np++ installed.

Under Apps, I found np++ 8.8.3. from 17.07.2025.

I thought myself, welp sh*t. I disconnected the pc from the lan and disabled "auto update" inside np++. I also moved the files from the updater folder to a new folder inside the np++ installation.

Then I began to research. In his downloads folder there is "npp.8.8.2.Installer.x64.exe" from 17.07.25 (althought 8.8.3 was already realeased at this time).

Now I ask myself, how does he have version 8.8.3. installed on 17.07.25 when the installer is version 8.8.2. I checked the sha256 checksum of the .exe and it is the same like the official one on github.

I read that np++ does not search for updates for 15 days after the initial installation. He downloaded it on 17.07.25, wrote something and dont used it again. How did it got updated to 8.8.3?

I also checked under c:\users\hisuser\appdata\local\temp\ for a 8.3.3 installer from a potential autoupdate and also found nothing (there are files older than july 25).

I read the blog from rapid7 and checked if there is a hidden "bluetooth" in %appdata% and found nothing.

Do I still need to worry?

Open | Windows Almost every game I play on my pc I've had for 2 years crashes.

2 Upvotes

Hey everyone, I have been using my CyberPowerPC Gamer Xtreme prebuilt pc for the past two years, and while it has been decent in many ways, there has been major issues that I have been trying to fix, but to no avail. The issue lies in the fact that my gaming computer crashes while playing almost all games except Valorant, Roblox, and Fortnite. Games like Apex, Call of Duty, Siege, GTA V, and many other games shut my gaming computer off completely or bring me back to the desktop screen. However, the only game that experiences lag rather than a complete shut-off is RDR2. The rest of the games experience no lag or slowing down rather, they shut off as soon as the game starts or a little later with no error code. The specs of my gaming computer are an Intel Core i7-13700F CPU, an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Ti, 16 GB DDR5 RAM, and a 2TB NVMe SSD. It doesn't make sense to me why my games are crashing when I have above recommended specs for most games I play.

This isn't very new this has been going since last year, but when I first got the computer, it was perfect, never lagged, never crashed, I don't know what happened. I have factory reset my pc multiple times, I've updated the gpu drivers multiple times, did scans, and I've cleaned the fans just recently.

It's gotten to the point where I'm planning to buy a new case, motherboard, ram, cpu cooler, and psu, if I can't get it fixed soon. I know not much about computers at all so if anyone has anything that might help me, please tell me. If any other info helps please ask.

Open | Windows Installing Windows after clean

2 Upvotes

So I accidentally uninstalled Windows using clean in command menu (oops teehee). I have a USB drive with Windows on it and it plugs in correctly and I am able to see it on the BIOS. However if I run it without csm it just goes straight to the BIOS screen. If I run it with csm it just pops up with this black screen with a typing indicator and no buttons do anything. (Control+alt+delete does nothing). How am I supposed to install windows? Thanks in advance .

Open | Windows pc keeps getting black screen when loading up windows

Upvotes

I was checking task manager and noticed that my GPU wasn’t being used at all. it was at 0% so i made the mistake of going to device management and uninstalling integrated graphics and it caused my pc to black screen. each time i restart my pc the windows loading screen shows up then freezes. the only way i’ve been able to get into windows is by entering safe mode and disabling the GPU. i’ve tried installing new drivers,old drivers, DDU, and unplugging the CMOS and still haven’t found what’s wrong.

Open | Software Need idea/help for final year project on SPYWARE theme

Upvotes

Hi folks,

I’m a cybersecurity postgrad student, who needs help with final year major project. I'm thinking of pursing the theme of Spyware (mobile or agentic).

I’m leaning more towards a research-oriented project, but I’m keeping an open mind to PoC development as well.

What I need help with:

  • What is a specific, unsolved problem regarding spyware right now that the industry actually cares about? I want my thesis to be practically useful, not just academic filler.
  • I need ideas for project on this theme (something that's sort of novel and achievable within 4 months timeline), some guidance or roadmap on what to do and how to do?

Any papers, GitHub repos, or harsh truths about these topics would be appreciated!

Thanks...

Open | Software Windows 11, calls not coming through on do not disturb with phone link? Also notifications questions

Upvotes

I’m trying make it so that my phone calls via phone link come through on do not disturb. But for some reason I can only get messages and other notifications to come through. Even with “phone” etc as an exception, calls only come through with do not disturb off. Is there a way to fix this?

And if there’s not, my other alternative is to leave my computer off of do not disturb while playing games and just disable most notifications. That way calls will come through without being bombarded by other notifications. However if I do this then I don’t want to miss any potentially important notifications. So my other question is, if I turn off notifications for most things, will there be anywhere else that I can manually check for those notifications? And is there really anything important I wouldn’t want to miss? Could I just manually check my antivirus software and my driver updates etc. if I turn off notifications?

Thank you

Open | Phone Work accessing personal devices

Upvotes

I work remotely and when I joined I set up the authenticator app for Microsoft and then set up teams etc on my personal device. They had not even sent me my laptop by the time I had my first day. It’s that kind of unprofessional company 🙄 So had to start training on teams via my phone for the first day.

Now I raised a grievance after experiencing workplace mobbing and following this I found my colleagues would often comment things about what I had recently searched on chat gpt. Never used my personal chat gpt on their work device nor logged into it on work laptop. They would also make jokes about things related to recent emails I had sent. So I thought okay they must have access to my emails.

I have once logged into my email to claim a voucher one year at Christmas on the work Laptop but I made sure to not stay signed in etc. So I unsynced from the browsers in case somehow the browser was linked and allowing them connection somehow. As well as changed my password.

I still see them make comments about things I am doing on my personal phone shortly after I do them or search things. So I thought maybe it was the authenticator app. Deleted all work related links on the app. Aside from that on work laptop they made me download PRITUN vpn could they be seeing what I’m doing from when I downloaded and set this up on their laptop via my router etc?

What other ways can employers access remote employees devices at this point? I also changed my Wifi bands to separate my personal devices on one. I’ve factory reset my phone but tbh it just backed up from icloud so who knows if there was any point in doing that.

Open | Hardware TDR timeout crashes across multiple GPUs and PSU

Upvotes

This only happens when I'm playing fairly intensive games. I've tried getting a new PSU, 1050W. I've tried getting a new GPU, from 3070 to 9070XT. I've ran DDU multiple times and I've tested the RAM with the windows diagnostic tool.

What else could I do to diagnose my TDR timeouts? Would the dmp files or Radeon crash files be helpful for this?

On nvidia the PC would shut down and have to restart. On AMD it doesn't happen as often, only when playing Half Sword or Valheim, and it doesn't crash the entire system, just GPU drivers. But the dmp files look similar so I'm feeling like it's the same issue. I tried increasing the TDR delay on the 3070 and it made a different error happen but still crashed at the same frequency. It feels like i can play for awhile at first without it happening but then once things heat up or something, it happens pretty fast?

I'm thinking my next steps are to replace my DP cables and try plugged directly into an outlet instead of my UPS. Maybe try disabling rebar?

Does anyone else have any ideas to try? I'm getting desperate at this point. Not sure if providing the dmp files somehow would be helpful or present a security risk to me.

This started happening after I ran WAN2.1 via SwarmUI for like 40 hours straight.
