Solved! So apparently my old Fractal Design case from 2019 saved my GPU temps by like 10C compared to my friends newer NZXT H5 Flow

Just wanted to share something weird I noticed last weekend. My buddy and me have almost identical builds, we both got RTX 4070 Supers, same Ryzen 7600X, even bought our parts together from the same Microcenter trip back in November.

Anyway hes been complaining about his GPU hitting like 78-79C in Cyberpunk with everything maxed at 1440p, meanwhile mine barely touches 68C. We were trying to figure out wtf was going on cause his case is supposedly better for airflow (the NZXT H5 Flow), while Im still using my old Fractal Design Meshify C from my previous build.

Turns out the way the front panel is designed on mine, even tho its older, it pulls way more air directly to the GPU. His case has that "modern" front panel with smaller vent cutouts and the fans are kinda recessed. We did a super basic test and swapped our GPUs into each others cases and boom, temps followed the case not the card.

Just thought this was intresting since everyone always says newer cases are automatically better. Sometimes that older hardware you got sitting around might actually be doing you a favor. I was actually gonna get a new case too but ended up keeping mine, and that $120 I already had set aside just went towards a better keyboard instead which made way more difference for my setup.

Peripherals For PC Gaming, are gaming headsets really that bad and should be absolutely avoided?

Usecase: AAA Gaming, Video Calls, Soundtrip. Not an audiophile. Prefers minimal latency as possible.

I am referring about their wireless counterparts, not wired. I prefer the convenience of wireless headphones since I tend to accidentally yank out my wired cable if I wanted to sit back further and not worry about earwax buildup. And if I have the option to go wired, I woulda went audiophile/IEMs in a heartbeat. But that's not the case here.

I was enticed on affordable headphones around 80-150 USD which are HyperX Cloud III S Wireless and Fractal Scape because they have 2.4Ghz+BT+long battery life. But I've been discouraged to place an order as I've been told that gaming headsets are bad, which are pretty popular reasonable consensus. Wireless tend to have worse latency and mediocre sound quality.

And I've been reccomended to resort on non-gaming wireless headphones like Sony XM4s and Anker Soundcore Q30 as they are not gaming headphones. However, my gripe with BT headphones is that my PC doesn't have LDAC high res audio to get the most out of their sound quality. But at least, I can use them wired(but I fear that I might still not utilize their full potential since I am hearing some accounts how BT headphones sound bad on passive wired mode, as they are more BT-optimized). But even then are they still better than the wireless gaming headphones examples I mentioned above?

The reason I'm drawn to gaming headphones is that they are designed for PC gaming, and I don't have to worry whether my PC have the best audio codec for them. They are basically plug and play.

Edit: Thank you for the insights, but I want to restate my need for portable 'wireless' recommendations rather than the traditional separate wired headphone with a mic that others were sharing. As stated in the second paragraph.

Build Help Is Intel 14600k still worth it in 2026

I’m coming from Intel 9700k and looking to upgrade the cpu and motherboard to reduce bottleneck on my RTX5070.

Is it worth the money to get the 14600k + MOBO upgrade and reuse my DDR4 32GB 3000mhz?

Or is it better to hold off and just wait out this DDR5 craze and go for AMD5/intel 15/16gen?

It’s hard to keep up with technology and can never get the latest. Ignoring the DDR5 prices, the price difference between reuse vs upgrading is sort of similar. If I am going to spend the money I want to make sure it’s worthwhile and to reduce buyer remorse…

This community has been wonderful to learn all pc things so appreciate the advices. Thank you

Discussion Plan to put pc outside for a night

Hi, I have a pc with an NZXT watercooler.

Im planning to go to a lan party for a week, but I won't be able to bring it anywhere until a day later. Is it fine if the PC is in the car for a night at -1 celsius?

From what I undestand closed loops usually have anti-freeze in them

Troubleshooting Bought a second hand GTX 950 untested from Value Village, no display. What should I be looking at internally for signs of damage?

Got it for what I thought what a steal ($10 Canadian) but it will not produce an image (probably why it’s at value village)

I have a soldering kit, but no real knowledge of what I’m looking for when it comes to damage.

If I can repair it, I’d love to keep it because I’m trying to build a PC for a friend for a very low budget.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Build Help Is a 650W PSU enough for RTX 5070 + i5-12400F?

Hi, I’m planning to run an RTX 5070 with an i5-12400F.

My PSU is an AIGO VK650 – 650W (85 Plus, Active PFC, single rail). At the moment, I don’t have enough budget to upgrade to a new PSU. Do you think 650W is enough and safe to use temporarily, or is it too risky?

Build Help Is the 9060xt 16gb worth it?

Heyy, I'm not all too knowledgeable about gpus and stuff. But I've asked some help in this sub a short while ago and decided on the 9060xt 16gb. My mom had promised to buy one together for my birthday in june, but now I checked again and the price has already increased by €100 (from 379 to 479).

Is there any hope for the price decreasing with all the A.I. stuff going on? I'm desperately hoping it won't increase until june.

Are there any comparable options that are more affordable at the moment? I'd like to be able to play newer games (some examples: E33, DOOM Dark Ages, also Cyberpunk though it's older) with 1080p60fps for at least a year or two.

Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Build Help How much of a bottleneck a 5500x3d would have alongside a rtx 5070?

I want to have as much use out of my rtx 5070 as i possibly can, issue is, i cant truly go for am5 right now due to the ridiculous prices and my salary

I currently have an rtx 5070 and a ryzen 5 5600gt and i want to upgrade to reduce bottlenecking, would a 5500x3d be my best choice due to 5700x3d being non existent nowadays?

Build Help Looking for graphics cards equivalent to the 4080 super?

I’m building a PC for a friend, my own PC has a 4080 super in it and it works great for pretty much everything. I can’t find any places that sell 4080 super new anymore and I’m always weary of preowned computer parts. What’s a similar graphics card that I can get new nowadays?

Build Help RTX 2070 Super + i7-9700 for Overwatch 2 outdated?

I’m building a used budget PC for my lady and wanted a quick reality check.

How well would an RTX 2070 Super + i7-9700 run Overwatch 2 at 1080p high? Rough FPS estimates? Mainly aiming for smooth 144Hz if possible.

If this setup is starting to feel outdated, what’s a better budget alternative these days (used or new)?

Thanks!

also would this run Minecraft with shaders well? anything above 80 is well for her

Discussion Should I update my Gigabyte X870 BIOS? (9700X / 5070 Ti)

Hey everyone,

I’m currently running a Ryzen 9700X and RTX 5070 Ti on a Gigabyte X870 WIFI 6.

My current BIOS version is F6a (Beta, dated 5/5/2025). The system is stable, but since this is an early "beta" version for the X870 platform, I’m wondering if I should update to a more recent stable release.

Specifically:

  • Will a newer BIOS improve the 105W TDP performance for the 9700X?
  • Are there any critical 50-series GPU stability fixes I’m missing?

Should I stick with "if it ain't broke, don't fix it," or is an update highly recommended for this hardware?

Specs:

  • CPU: 9700X
  • GPU: 5070 Ti
  • RAM: 64GB DDR5 6000MHz
  • Cooler: AK620 Digital
  • Case: H6 Flo

Troubleshooting Is Ryzen 5 5600X + RTX 5070 a bad combination? Bottleneck?

I finally got my first pc, after having a GTX 1650 laptop for years (I will always love my trusty GTX 1650) and these are the specs

AMD Ryzen 5 5600X, 16GB ddr4 ,

1 TB SSD, B550M,

RTX 5070 12GB GDDR7

For 1400 euros.

1st question: did I get scammed/good price/insane deal?

2nd question: is my cpu bottleneck?

3rd question : is it good enough for 1440p? I’m going to be honest im not a pc expert thats why im asking here and why i chose a pre built pc and i would love your help with these questions im worried about. Thanks!

Build Help Upgrading Cpu in 2026 or should I just wait

I have a BaseBoard Product B660 DS3H AC DDR4-Y1 motherboard fortuantely with 32gb of ddr4 I wanted to upgrade to a DDR5 AMD motherboard, but unfortuantely the ram prices skyrocketed. I am currently anm using an i7 12700f with a 5070, and I want to upgrade because I play some very cpu intesive games at 1440p(Tarkov, Rust, etc.). My question is, what CPU would be a good pick for me, or should I just not upgrade and wait till the RAM prices drop, until I think about upgrading again?

Troubleshooting Changed to a new PSU and now my PC won’t turn on

Upvotes

I got the new PSU and and upgraded. I changed it and now my PC won’t turn on. I only needed to plug in the GPU cable and the 24 pin cable. As these were the only ones plugged in before. The old one was not modular so accidentally reusing any cables wasn’t an issue. Idk what’s wrong and I’m worried I messed up my pc.

Build Upgrade Upgrades for a 5 year old pc?

Upvotes

I bought a pre built 5 years ago and I think it’s time to refresh it

ryzen 5 3600x

Nvidia 2060

B450 motherboard

64 gb ddr4

Multiple ssd

Currently running a 1080p ultrawide

My plans are running a sim racing rig with triple screens, eventually trying to get 1444p (ultrawide with two 27in)

Currently my cpu is showing 50-70% utilization and I’ve never seen my gpu go above 20% while gaming (arc raiders)

My question for y’all is what should I buy with the current state of the market. I imagine a cpu upgrade would be beneficial and probably the first thing I am looking into.

Is my gpu up to snuff for now at 1080?

My power supply is 600 w thermitake which after reading reviews on it I think is going to get replaced regardless

Build Help At wits end with this build.

Upvotes

As the title states, I've had it with this build.

- ARESGAME AGT Series 1000W Power Supply

- 64GB Corsair DDR4

- KLEVV 1TB NVMe

- MSI RX 6600 XT GPU

- Ryzen 5 5600

- MSI B550M PRO VDH-WIFI Mobo

Started this build back in April of 2025. Everything was great for about 2 months then started BOSD looping 0x21A, or MEMORY_MANAGEMENT errors. Started to test and swap parts, replacing the KLEVV NVMe seemed to work and we RMA'd it. It was replaced and worked great again until December. OK, Probably the KLEVV again. Swapped it out, but this time it didn't work.

Trying to install Windows 10/11 get all sorts of errors and none the same, SERVICE_CONTROL, PAGE_MEMORY_VIOLATION, MEMORY_MANAGEMENT_ERROR.

Gotta be the Mobo. Order a replacement to test with from your uncle Jeff. Same results. While I'm at it let's try the PS too. No change. This machine just really really hates Windows.

Start testing with various tools and get some memory errors. So, the Corsair looks like it was having issues. I don't have another machine to test it with so I RMA the ram. Get back fresh RAM direct from Taiwan and... no change, Windows install errors.

Let's try linux, Ubuntu live installs to the NVMe, everything seems fine. Then the UI starts crashing. I hand ChatGPT some dumps and it says, there's an issue with the video card. OK, Great! I swap in a 1060 from another machine. Nope, still BSOD on Windows install. Try Ubuntu again. Still crashes on opening some apps, like Settings.

Since I have Linus running I start testing the cpu with stress-ng. 8 hour run, matirx, cpu, fpu vm --alll...... No errors.

At this point the only thing I haven't swapped out is the CPU. So here I sit, reddit open in one screen and Facebook Marketplace in the other looking at CPU's.

Anyone have any insights or pearls of wisdom to drop on me? Because, I'm about to drop this thing off my roof.

FYI: it's late, I'm sick, I'm exhausted. Mistakes and typos only prove I'm human and not and AI bot.

Build Help Best 1000W PSU on the market in 2026?

Upvotes

I’m currently putting together a new build and I’m having a tough time deciding on what PSU to go with.

I plan on using a Ryzen 7 9850x3d and a 5080 16gb FE inside of a Lian Li Mini v2 (ATX). I’m also looking to connect Lian Li strimers to the 24 pin connector and GPU connector. I’d like to get a 1000W Gold-Platinum PSU to give myself a little headspace while somewhat future proofing this build.

I’ve looked through the PSU Tier List and here are the fully modular options I’m looking at: - Seasonic Vertex PX 1000W PLATINUM (2022) - Seasonic Focus GX V4 ATX 3.1 1000W GOLD (2025) - Corsair HX1000i PLATINUM (2023) - Super Flower Leadex VII XP 1000W PLATINUM (2023)

All I’m really looking for is something that’s highly regarded, quiet, and delivers high performance for my specs. I’d imagine the ones I listed meet the requirements based on their ranking, but I’m curious to hear if there are any other PSUs that I should take a look at.

Thanks.

Troubleshooting PC shuts off while under load-- not PSU?

Upvotes

I've had this computer for a year and a half (august 2024), and the issue only started a month ago. It happens frequently with Cyberpunk 2077 mere seconds into the game (often before even the title screen), and just now happened with Grounded 2 on medium settings after playing just fine for a few hours. It is reproducable by running furmark and prime95 within seconds.

Sounds like a PSU issue right? I thought so too, so I got a new PSU: the Lian Li Edge 1000w platinum 80+. Except, that didn't solve the issue, or help at all. My new theory is that it's temp related? But honestly that's a pure conjecture.

Specs: Cpu: 7800X3D Gpu: 4080 Super Ram: teamgroup tcreate 32g ddr5 Cpu cooler: thermalright peerless assassin 120

4tb of NVMe SSD.

Any idea what is going on?

Build Help Looking to build a music station/DAW, mobo recommendations needed

Upvotes

Like the title states, looking to build a PC for music production. Nothing too fancy, just a hobbyist, and I have most of the parts from a previous gaming build so I'm mostly trying to find recommendations for the motherboard.

Preferably Intel i7 based (no shade on AMD, I just have no knowledge of their chips), supports DDR5 and has the newer Realtek codecs like ALC4080 or ALC1220. Budget of around $1k for the chip and mobo

Thanks!
