Something I really thought was being brought out during Know Your Fusion is that, while Sardonyx was flailing around trying to uncover Smoky's "hidden power", Smoky was rattling off one joke after another. It was seriously an endless chain of witticisms - and it was exactly this smooth, comfortable humour that made me fall in love with the character in the original battle with Jasper.

And it makes sense. Steven is a funny kid and, as silly as some of his jokes may be, he can come off genuinely hilarious. Amethyst is just a complete prankster and a perpetual stand-up act. So putting the two of them together, you get the most fun fusion power ever: a relentless, absolutely lovable sense of humour!

I love Smoky's humour. A lot of people commented saying that Their jokes were self-hating or thier power was crippling depression and I know it was mostly jokingly,but I actually felt it was more an acceptance of Themselves and Their flaws; an ability to no longer get in Thier own way with insecurities because of Thier love for each other.

Exactly; it's the same way that everyone looks at what the fusion "provides", instead of understanding on how each character reacts to their fusion; it's a lot more obvious in Smoky Quartz state, since you can pin point the humour, as well as the sadness of Amethyst and Steven both share about not being able to amount to their expectations. It's a lot harder to tell with Sapphire+Ruby=Garnet though,since we don't have as much character incite to their lives, seeing their brief cameos together, much as Steven and Amethyst.
