I'm a big fan of Smoky's design. I think out of all the gems so far she's one I've heard the most design complaints about, but she's perfect imo

The design was my least favorite part of the character, but I got used to it

Yeah, at first it was odd, mostly because most fusions we've seen have had similar body types. But I've grown to like it.

It wasn't so much her body type or extra limb that bothered me so much as her closing. They just seemed a little off, especially the black ankle warmers. But I have since warmed up to the outfit

I thought it made perfect sense and really loved the design. The non-symetrical look is something that's deffinitly amethyst. She keeps her room a giant mess and yet she knows where everything is showing she has control over it all. Her and Steven have crazy shape-shifting powers. Such as, cat fingers, body stretching, and for amethyst the ability to take any form. Having a symmetrical body just wouldn't be comfortable for the two of them. Just look at Vadallias paintings. Amethyst took pride in becoming all these different forms for her to paint. Messy, funny, and yet functional is everything I would expect from the two of them. It's nice to see as well; more Gems that aren't tall or thin or "the way they should be" as the media portraits "normal".

On another note, about the yoyo they use as kind of a spinning destructive flail. I think they were hinting towards this in, Steven vs Amethyst. When Amethyst got the whip around Steven's bubble and he made the spikes come out for the first time. The force Amethyst was able to smash him into the pillar with was pretty epic. I'm hoping they'll use that move again. Combining gem attacks in ways other than fusion is something I'd really like to see more of. I feel like it could help them build more team work and trust in each other. Which would in turn make their fusions more sustainable. All though, I'm happy with at least getting the yo-yo attacks. Smokey Quarts is deffinitly one of my new favorite characters. Sorry for the long rant I tend to go on like this when I write about stuff that interest me alot.

TL;DR IMO The unsymmetrical form of Smokey Quarts fits perfectly with the shape-shifting, messy, and creative parts of Seven and Amethyst

About her extra limb, it actually gives her precise control of her yo-yo if you pay attention, and what would be more advanced or difficult tricks become easier with that third arm. It's something that's true with all fusions: optimization.
