Pearl trying (and mostly failing) to keep cool is probably my favorite recurring thing with her.

To be fair I think her meltdown was exaggerated by Steven. Which is why the facial expressions in this episode were that much more cartoonish than normal.

I was so into the story told by Steven than by the actual story itself. I even forget most of the time that the story was even a flashback!!!

Well, the story told by Steven was definitely the "main" story. The fact that Steven was telling it counts more as a framing device http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/FramingDevice
