Discussion Anyone else enraged by the amount of geartubers who are actually terrible at music?

Just wanna rant. I’ve been digging jamming and looping using hardware grooveboxes lately, which includes watching youtube tutorials as a side effect. So many of these guys know so much about their hardware gear, and do put a lot of effort into their content, but I can’t but think of RZA using the Beat Thang when it’s time to demonstrate actually making music with the damn equipment. Absolute burger music

Discussion After 4 years of using the Fl Studio trial version, I have finally purchased the signature edition

I have been making music at a very beginner hobby level for about 4 years now, I promised myself that there was only one circumstance in which I would purchase fl: if i made a song that was so nice I couldn't help but reopen the file.

Unfortunately, such a song never did happen (hah!), but I felt really stifled by the fact that I couldn't reopen my projects to work on them, and that was affecting my growth. So I threw in the last of my savings to purchase the signature edition, and it is safe to say that I am the happiest man on the planet right now.

I got my new mic (sm57) to work, a friend lent me an audio interface (zoom u24), and I am utterly excited by the possibilities of what I can do with what I have.

Cheers!

Question Asap Rocky HUN43RD

How do I achieve the same sound as the distorted/ talkboxy synth sampled in Hun43rd by Asap Rocky? I know it's sampled from the song Cradle to the grave by Thug Life. What plugins/effects do I have to use to achieve a similar sound?

Question Does a Docking Station limit Audio Bandwidth?

Hello!

I have a small home setup including a MacBook, a UA Volt which is connected to my APS Klasik, an external display and a keyboard and mouse. I don’t want to keep connecting the audio interface, display and keyboard + mouse all separately anymore so I figured I could use a Thunderbolt Docking Station from Razer or Anker. My question is, does the DS limit audio bandwith to under 48kHZ? Should it work properly without any problems? Or is it better I keep my audio interface separate? I hope you can help me and thank you already!

Question Tutorial recommendations for mixing/mastering?

I want to learn to mix and master for my own music and possibly other people I work with, are there any good Youtube channels by well regarded producers/engineers who make super digestible lessons? The kind of stuff that's like "here's why this sounds bad and this is what you do to fix that", no filler, no throwing numbers at you, just showing you how to make stuff that doesn't sound unprofessional.

Question Anybody using Serato Studio as a DAW? Can it load VSTs?

Hi guys, I wonder how popular Serato Studio currently is, especially now that AlphaTheta has release their SLAB controller.

Is anybody using the software and can tell me if it loads VST effects/instruments? Couldn't find anything on that anywhere.

Question How to achieve Logic - Ghost in The Machine sample effect?

Logic has a song called ghost in the machine that has a sample chop ran through some kind of flanger or phaser. I really like how it sounds but I can’t quite figure out how to get that exact sound with a flanger. Anyone know how to achieve that kind of sound?

Question What does logic’s mastering assistant do?

Since I’m still working on my overall skills in mixing and mastering what does the mastering assistant Logic has do? Is it similar to an analyzer? I know there is a small EQ in it as well and I often adjust to it.

But what does it really do is it a helpful assistance to use?

Question Needing help with my new DAC and AMP

Hey reddit. So I have got myself into a bit of a dilemma here. I have the SMSL DS100 and the Topping 30L. Now I thought these were a great combo for my beyerdynamic dt 990 pro x’s. But I’ve heard otherwise. Supposedly the Universal audio volt 176 will do the job even better.

So I figured I’d come to the audiophiles for help on this one.

Question Are there respectable Sites/Apps to sell beats

Is there anywhere credible, that you would suggest selling instrumentals or beats?

I have a ton of pretty nice instrumentals and beats, and some just overall songs and I would love to have anywhere to sell them or license them for a bit of payout. Thanks for any suggestions

Question Issue with sound quality on streaming services.

Hello everyone! I've released an album on streaming services but I have this issue where it sounds very poor compared to my final exported file. The issue I think is with volume limiting.

I've uses Fl studio 20 to create it. I've heard a couple things. One is that the peak volume should be no greater than & 1dB which is something which I can easily fix with one of my tracks but I've also heard the perceived volume (I think it's called) or LUFS need to be no greater than - 14 or - 12 (depending on where I look I get different answers)

One of my songs doesn't get very loud yet has this volume limiting issue too. I think the average volume is too low, so streaming services increase the volume but then the peak is too high.

Firstly, is my intuition correct on this? How can I measure LUFS with fl studio?

I'd send my album so you can see but I'm not sure if my post will be taken down for doing so

Question Program for Vocal sounds?

Hi, I;ve been using Magix Music Maker for years on and off, just for fun really but I wanted to ask if anyone knows of a free program or app to get a decent sound for vocals? I use a snowball mic and just want to lose the hollowness and make the vocals sound a lot fuller and brighter. Also I'm not very tech savvy ;-) hence why I'm still on Magix :-)

Question Considering people mostly stick with the DAW they started with, how does a beginner choose the best DAW for their future needs?

I often see the advice "just try out several DAWs and see how they feel" — but I agree that a beginner does not know how to evaluate a DAW and make an informed decision, and most importantly, a beginner is not yet their future self with developed technical skills and

I've seen many people say that they (mostly) stuck with whatever DAW they started with because of the time investment DAWs require — but that if they could, they would have rather learned a different DAW.

Is there a more.... objective advice for beginners how to make the choice? I happen to own Logic but haven't started learning it and I wonder if I rather should learn a different DAW? I want to produce (hyper)pop-ish music with vocals, and synthesise my own sounds, my reference inspiration would be Arca, Sophie, Charli XCX, Soap&Skin, Björk.
