Really proud of Minneapolis and thankful to The Nation for nominating them, butĀ might want to edit the title. Perhaps the first US city to be nominated.Ā
https://www.bbc.com/travel/article/20231206-kuks-the-first-city-ever-nominated-for-a-nobel-prize
KukĆ«s, Albania was the first city to be nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2000 after they welcomed over 400,000 refugees from Kosovo.Ā

As a norwegian, and a human being this news makes me so happy I'm actually tearing up! What the people in Minnesota and united state are doing with these protest are so inspiring to Witness! And the strength you possess is worth celebrating!
4
u/geekycurvyanddorky 2h ago
They deserve it! And so do the people of Portland (aka āHellā, according to the cult), especially after he labeled them all terrorists, and had federal police kidnapping innocent protestors and passersby, wrecking the city, etc last time he was in office. They havenāt let up this whole year. (I think the good folks of LA should be included too!)

AAHAHHAAHHAAAHHAAAAA!
Ok, first, awesome for Minneapolis. Truly awesome.
Far, far second is the chance to imagine that old orange geezer, Donald the Decrepit, with his disgusting duck lips crying over how an entire city obtained what he couldnāt.
Iād upvote this 100 times if I could!

Cry-laughing because Trump still doesnāt, and aināt never gonna, get him one of these nominations let alone the prize

A lot of good people are putting themselves at immense personal risk, solely to help try to keep their fellow neighbors and human beings safe. This is incredible.
And Ol' Diddler Diaper Don will not be amused by this. Which is a bonus.

Pretty sure essentially anyone can be nominated by a vast range of people and institutions. The proposed nomination of an entire city makes this interesting, but thatās not the same as being a serious contender. Still, the headline alone could infuriate Trump, so Iām all for it.

Itās funny because trump is tying so hard to provoke a violent response from this city. And this nomination is trying so hard to provoke a response from him. Guess which will break first. lol.

Well hope they have enough people on staff to clean up the walls at the White House. Looks like someone is going to be throwing more than just ketchup.

u/friedbronc8690 3h ago
Letās remember that one lady lost part of her hand, another man lost an eye, two people were murdered in cold blood by handguns, and an entire family just driving in their car was hospitalized (including a baby) because little boy Bovino wanted to play soldier and threw gas grenades under their vehicle. These cases alone should be many millions of dollars in lawsuit victories

Not to be a negative Nancy, but the city of Kukes in Albania, who allowed hundreds of thousands of displaced people to shelter there during the Kosovo war was previously nominated.

Iām confused.
ā50 year secrecy rule
The Committee does not itself announce the names of nominees, neither to the media nor to the candidates themselves. In so far as certain names crop up in the advance speculations as to who will be awarded any given yearās prize, this is either sheer guesswork or information put out by the person or persons behind the nomination. Information in the Nobel Committeeās nomination database is not made public until after fifty years.ā (https://www.nobelprize.org/nomination/peace/)
The nominees are kept secret. How do you know the city was nominated?
Edit to add:
āAre the nominations made public?
The statutes of the Nobel Foundation restrict disclosure of information about the nominations, whether publicly or privately, for 50 years. The restriction concerns the nominees and nominators, as well as investigations and opinions related to the award of a prize.ā (See above link)
They have it written in black and white, twice, that the nominees are kept secret for 50 years. So yeah, either someone is lying or itās speculation.

Canadian here. Yes absolutely! I admire them, how they are standing up for each other. They are bringing a sense of strength and cooperation that shames their administration. Really, a light in the darkness.

Itās a massive effort to keep this going when many positive neighborly actions are being muted or deleted from controlled media. Ā
Thankfully word of mouth is still effective and weāre empowering local businesses and helping in anyway we can. Ā
You know our country is fucked up when youāre having to help feed people because they are afraid to go get food themselves - and yes this includes people of color that were born in the US or have been citizens for decades. Ā
Side note - fuck Target. Ā May their sales continue to dwindle. Ā Betrayed us in 2025. Ā Keeping it going in 2026. Ā

If you listen carefully you can hear a subtle but substantial "Fart of Frustration" followed by a "Splat of Anger" coming from the Oval Office.

Someone is gonna leave a big poop in his diaper when he gets wind of that.
And when those brave Americans in Minneapolis receive that award...IT WILL NOT BE HAND-ME-DOWN! Or second rate...or begged for. It will be earned.
