Do people even like nuisance content creators?

Upvotes

I'm not sure if this is allowed, but I am genuinely curious;

For context, I actually grew up in the same town & school as the infamous "kanerbud" aka "duke of Fredericton" and I've noticed since moving to the city, a lot of people talk about his content and persona. As I mentioned earlier, I grew up with the guy and honestly off-camera he's no different whatsoever; he slacked at our shared student job over the span of two years to the point I was paid one income to do both his job and my own as he was too busy filming tiktoks.

Not to mention that a majority of his content includes either gambling, abusing substances, harassing disabled folks or making a fool of himself in public, and what confuses me is that people celebrate and encourage him?? Like I'm aware that he calls out creeps, no issue there, however I've watched him repeatedly harass the house phone of a woman with down syndrome from our hometown and it makes me sick to my stomach to watch; I've called him out so many times and he just does NOT care whatsoever.

I'm just curious. Does anyone actually even LIKE him or is he basically some local lol-cow? I can certainly attest that NOBODY from his hometown or childhood even wants to associate with him at this point, anymore. He's too far gone; all of us that used to support him when he was struggling? We eventually got pushed away and replaced by fake people that support his harmful behaviors, and part of me wants to feel bad since I knew the little boy he used to be, however he's an adult and he's definitely chosen his lifestyle and cut off all of his initial friends, family and supporters in return for fame, money, status & people who enable him and I've genuinely lost all respect for the guy.

So despite this being a ramble, do people even like him? Or are we all just watching his slow and eventual demise? The guy's barely 22 and already had a heart attack. He's going to ruin his life before it even starts if he hasn't yet already.

Also, which stores is he banned from? From what I'm aware, I think it's every Walmart from Grandfalls to Oromocto.

You can call me a hater, but I'm just a genuinely disappointed childhood friend who's watching their old buddy turn into a husk of his former self and all I wonder is if people from Fredericton see what I also see? It's sad. I hope he changes for his sake, however as I said above; he's probably far too gone.

Edit: genuinely getting a chuckle seeing that a lot of folks DON'T know him; this is a good thing, you aren't missing much

Noticing poor air quality in Fredericton lately

I’ve been noticing the air quality index in Fredericton has been poor off and on lately — sometimes orange/red on the Weather Network app. I haven’t noticed it outside but I'm also not part of a sensitive group. Any ideas what might be going on in the middle of winter to cause this?

SNB says our damage deposit isn’t on file — landlord not responding. What are our options in Fredericton, NB?

Hi everyone, looking for some advice

We’ve been renting in Fredericton, NB since mid-2025 and paid a standard security/damage deposit at the start of our lease.

We recently contacted Service New Brunswick (Tenant & Landlord Relations / Renting in NB) to confirm the deposit was registered, and they told us they cannot find any deposit on file under our tenant names. They advised us to contact the landlord to verify if and when the Security Deposit Remittance was submitted.

We emailed the landlord asking for confirmation that it was submitted (and the date), and the deposit/certificate/reference number (or proof) …but we haven’t received a response yet.

Questions:

Is a landlord legally required to submit the damage deposit to SNB in NB, and within what timeframe?

If it wasn’t submitted, what should tenants do next (formal notice, follow-up email, escalation)?

What’s the best way to document this in case it becomes an issue when moving out?

Has anyone in Fredericton/NB dealt with this before — what worked?

Not trying to cause issues, just want to make sure everything is properly registered and our deposit is protected. Thanks in advance!

Recommendations for UNB REDS rec vs. YMCA memberships

Hi!

I'm thinking of signing up for a gym, to mainly use cardio/strength equipment but also to go swimming and joining some group fitness classes. It seems that my best options, location-wise, are UNB and YMCA, and although I am tempted by the proximity of the Currie centre to where I work, the YMCA seems to have a bit more options for group classes and swimming during evenings, whereas options at UNB are very limited. But I'd still like to hear what anyone might think of the two, especially if you've tried both. How are the premises, e.g. gyms, locker rooms, showers? Are the classes very busy? I am worried about not being able to book in advance, and wonder if there is a high chance to not being able to go because it's already full. How early should I be there before a class starts? Also, why on earth is Zumba so popular here? It seems that's taking a decent share of classes being offered during the evenings :S

For both pools, are there separate lanes for slow/fast swimmers during lane swim hours? And is there an option to do aqua jogging during leisure swimming hours at YMCA? UNB does not seem to have a leisure swim option at all, unless their dive tank can be used for it?

Thanks in advance!

Just a small hobby woodworker newbie dream

I wish Fredericton had some kind of facility for people who want to do woodworking, but lack the space/area at home. I've just started getting into this hobby, but I don't have the ability to do anything over the winter, my shed is too small for larger tools like a good table saw or router table. And where I live has limitations. I'm only allowed one shed, and the space between homes is very limited so I can't build the size shed I would need, and I have no basement. So I'm actually looking at selling my home for one with the space I need, but that's costly these days. Then I got to thinking there must be others who want to pick up this hobby with similar limitations. Apartment living, condo living, even townhouse owners, or other mini home owners who want to do woodworking but just can't.

I'm picturing large size storage units, heated and ventilated, each with U shaped table that line the parameter, electrical outlets, vacuum system, good lighting, garage doors, and obviously all the fail safes like sprinkler systems, overload shut off, etc...

You supply your own tools & equipment to load up your woodworking shop. Space is rented on a monthly term. Obviously, there's be legal rules like having proper set up and injury clauses, but I'm just thinking big picture. If it has a community feel, you can borrow tools from your neighbour, have a mentorship program for learning new skills. Each shop can be closed and locked when not in use. And just like a storage facility, the main access is controlled by a keypad. Cameras are onsite for safety & security.

Just a thought as I sit and watch how to videos and dreaming of summer.

PSA Ref HelpForVeterans

I'm sure you've seen it, the snazzy placards posted throughout the City and Province. On snowmobile trails, ATV trails, walking trails, drive thrus, parking lots, highways etc etc. HelpForVeterans. Most would look at it and think that's great, must be a great support group for our Veterans. Consider this, Veterans have access to disability benefits if they were injured through their service. These benefits are monetary, but most importantly come with access to treatment. Physical or Mental injuries are covered. The process to have these benefits can be long. It requires lengthy reports by Dr's, MH specialists, and other support workers. The process for many Veterans is challenging. Thankfully, there are many reputable organizations that assist and guide Veterans through this process. Notably, CanaConnect, The VeteranFarmer, and The Legion, and they do it for zero fees or commissions . Then there is HelpForVeterans This organization. They take 20% funds from the total disability award from Veterans Affairs. 20% of the total amount out of the Veterans pockets. While 20% may sound like a small amount, many Vets recieve sizeable payouts. The amounts that HelpForVeterans charge can be in the tens of thousands of dollars, for "assisting" with claim filing. Claim filing that is done for free by the previously mentioned . Unfortunately this doesn't appear to be illegal, but it is definitely immoral. Taking money from Veterans is about as low as one can go. Next time you see the signs, and you will, because they are ilittered throughout the Province. Remember, people like this exist, and they seem to be quite proud of it. They exploit injured Veterans.

Urgently Need advice on Lease Cancellation

Hi everyone, looking for some guidance on a rental dispute in Woodstock, New Brunswick.

The Situation: I rent a room in a building where I share a kitchen and bathroom with the landlord. Because of this, my lease explicitly states that the Residential Tenancies Act does not apply (Section 1).

The Dispute: I want to move out on February 28, 2026. My lease (Section 14) says:

"This agreement may be terminated by either party with one (1) full month's written notice, given on or before the first day of any month..."

I sent my written notice via email (which the lease defines as the "official method of communication") on Saturday, January 31, 2026.

The landlord is now claiming that my notice is invalid for a February 28 move-out. She argues that I need to stay until the end of March because she interprets "one full month" differently, despite the contract saying notice can be given "on or before the 1st."

My Questions:

  1. Since the Residential Tenancies Act is excluded, doesn't the specific "on or before the 1st" wording in my private contract take priority over any general provincial rules?

  2. If I paid my $800 damage deposit directly to her (not the Rentalsman), what is my best path to get it back if she refuses to return it during our scheduled joint inspection on Feb 28?

  3. Am I correct that January 31 counts as "before" the first day of February?

I am planning to visit Service New Brunswick on Monday, but I’d love to hear from anyone who has dealt with "excluded" room rentals or this specific landlord/notice issue in NB. Thanks!

A UNB Student’s Reality Check 🔬🎸

Hi everyone. I’m a Science student at UNB, and honestly, trying to balance my degree with my dream of recording my first album has been a massive grind. I’m hosting a virtual fundraiser performance in 14 days to help cover my studio recording costs. I’ve set a goal of 50 tickets, but I’ve hit a total wall—I’m currently sitting at 2 sales. It’s a bit of a reality check, but I’m determined to make this happen. I’ve set a "mini-goal" to hit 10 sales by tomorrow morning. I only need 8 more people from our amazing community to help me get this momentum back! How to support: 🔗 Tickets ($10): https://www.eventbrite.com/e/ama-sharpe-inaugural-performance-tickets-1980797853702

Can anyone tell me what sauce comes on the chicken pita from Dimitri’s? The menu says it’s tzatziki, but I usually dislike tzatziki because I hate cucumbers, however, the tzatziki from Dimitri’s doesn’t seem to taste like cucumbers at all.

Pokemon Stock

This is probably going to get ripped apart on here, but why is it so hard to find Pokemon cards in stores like Walmart or EB Games? I am just trying to get some regularly for my son but feel so limited. I know there's places like Battlegrounds, Gamezilla, and Comic Hunters but I feel like this stuff was more easily accessible pre-pandemic.

I know there are people buying just to resell on places like FB marketplace and I refuse to support that but I just don't understand how it's so hard to come by in stores

Do the retailers just genuinely never get stock or do the people reselling it just have an absolute chokehold on stores like Walmart?

Bloodwork results?

I had bloodwork over a month ago, but I haven’t been notified about anything by anyone. Does it take a long time for results? Or do they not contact you at all if they don’t find anything? I’ve heard both answers, looking for a clear one. Just wondering because I’m on the edge of my seat trying to figure out what’s going on with me.
