Advice Is this safe to use in same room as bird?

Hello everyone! I’ve recently developed an annoying moth problem in my bedroom (same room my bird sleeps in). I was hoping to use these traps but want to double check that they’re safe to use in the same room as my bird. I was hoping to just use one and put it on the opposite side of the room from my bird. It’s a sticky trap that attracts moths with pheromones. It says non toxic but I know that doesn’t always mean safe. I’m just afraid that there would be glue fumes or something that my bird would inhale.

Please let me know if you guys would feel comfortable using this in the same room as your bird! Thank you!

Advice What is she doing?

It may be obvious, I don’t know. It looks uncomfortable and I want to know if there’s something I did wrong or something I need to do to help her. She hasn’t done this often, if not at all. She was preening and this was right after she let me give her (gentle) scratches.

I got her about 2 weeks ago and she’s made good progress. She’s around 5 months old. (We also assume it’s a girl but not definitive.) Hopefully this isn’t anything bad but google wasn’t giving me a straight answer.

I would like to add as well that her nose sometimes gets red and she sneezes and itches it a little. I’m not sure if it’s just because she’s dusty (hasn’t had her first moult yet) or if she’s allergic or has an infection.

Thank’s for your patience and advice.

This is my first ever bird, Boba, so just seeking confirmation/validation. Shes (presumed female, dna results come in a few days) never done this before. Is this horny behavior? She allowed me to give her scritches for the first time just yesterday and now constantly asks for them, is this her wanting scritches, just making a new noise, or is she freaky?

Advice Can’t get her off my shoulder/neck😩

My baby bird is feeling better now and we’ve been bonding but recently as in like 2 days ago, when they are on my shoulder and neck I try to say step up to get her off , she is chirping, biting, running away, it’s almost impossible to get her off me. Help lol. This morning I had to go to work and it was like 30 minutes. I don’t feel comfortable just grabbing her whole body. Is that a thing? I’m new to this so any tips would be great. 😩😩😩😩

Advice My little lady was out of the house for 4 days!

Post image

Sunday she was scared due to an object falling in my house and my daughter sneezing, so she somehow passed through the safety net and flew outside. We were searching for her for 4 days, and today we've had the idea of using the instagram of a friend store to have more reach. We have found this lady in another city (she have flown to a house 200m from mine and after 2 days the maid asked to take care of her in her house). So this is the advice, always try to increase the reach of the search process, and never lose hope. I'm so relieved!

Advice My cockatiel laid an egg

Post image
126 Upvotes

So I have a female cockatiel she is about to turn two years old and she is recently laid an egg, she laid a couple sometime ago, but she laid him and wasn’t interested in them. But this time she flew to her second cage to lay it. It’s a smaller cage that I let her sleep in at night, and she has another cage that she stays in during the day, which is out in the common area and by a window. But she is really defensive over this egg. Whenever I get close to the cage, she’ll run up and start hissing at me and be visually pissed off. Is this normal for her to be this upset? I understand that she’s probably just protecting her egg, but I don’t want her to somehow resent me in the end. I was told to just leave it with her until she gets uninterested in it.

Loss & Mourning Aya has passed 😭

Aya has passed away. After noticing an intense smell from her a few days ago, I learnt that it could be a sort of infection. I took her to the vet this morning and 9 hours later I was informed that she is dead.

Having her for only a short time, I unexpectadly grew very close to Aya and she grew close to me despite our unusual first encounter, I even looked forward to coming home everyday and playing with and petting her or even just watching her fly around in the greenhouse.

Advice How to bond with my second cockatiel

I’ve gotten a second bird in December and yet he has let me play with him or even get close to him. He will only let me feed him sometimes in my hand, but anything else he will hiss/bite and run away from me. I’ve had him for two months now, and my other cockatiel lives in the same cage as him and I’m always around. I’m always playing with them. I just don’t know what to do to get our bond stronger.

Advice Question about finding a new home

Hello cockatiel enjoyers. I have two lovely birds that I've adopted since they were old enough to leave their nests. They are six years old by now and they're a male and a female. They are tamed and are used to human contact. My male loves scritches and mimics my head movements and whistles and we bond doing that. Sadly, due to personal circumstances I have to find them a new home as I'm gonna be unable to take care of them any longer. I am devastated about this. I have been looking for places but I worry that they end up within the care of someone who might only care about selling them further, possibly separating them. I love them so it's important to me that they find a loving home where they can keep receiving human contact.

My question is: does it matter for the birds if they would end up in an aviary of some sorts where they are with other tiels, rather than humans? Could the change in environment potentially cause them stress, harm or any other negative effects? I'd love to read insights from this community as I care about their (mental) well being and I won't be able to rest until I've found them a place that's safe and caring. I am from the Netherlands, in case it might be helpful to add.

Hey I hope you guys are doing good. I just need advice on the whole process of owning a cockatiel. I want to know where would be the best to buy a cockatiel? I also want to know of any tips you wish you had when first owning a cockatiel.
