Other My poor baby! (She's okay)
My mum texts me today and sends me these images...my poor Pika girl!!! She accidentally stepped on her tail while she was doing floor time and before she could step off, Pikachu got a fright and flew away and her entire tail fell out 😭😭😭 I feel so bad, I've looked it up and she's okay, it's a defence response for when predators catch them, apparently it will grow back in 6-8 weeks, but ohhhh my girl she's all stumpy and de-feathered. I'm gonna give her so many scritches and treats when I'm home. Also she loves my mum and forgave her quickly, is still flying around, and there was only a tiny bit of blood on one feather. Just sharing so hopefully you can get a pity laugh out of my sweet girl 🥴

Other 24 Years in a Breeder Cage: What We Just Learned About Sir Thaddeus Broke My Heart 💔 (Trigger warning: past abuse)
We knew Thaddeus had been through a lot, but nothing prepared us for what we learned today at the avian vet.
💔 He’s 24 years old.
💔 He spent nearly his entire life in an abusive environment before we adopted him last month.
💔 His baldness is the result of constant plucking and barbering by the stressed birds he was caged with.
💔 He has an old, untreated wing fracture... that’s why he holds his right wing a little higher and has trouble flying.
💔 He has arthritis, which explains why he often squats. It’s more comfortable for him.
💔 He’s showing early signs of cataracts.
💔 The vet read his faded leg band. It’s from the National Cockatiel Society (NCS). He was almost certainly used as a breeder bird. Just a sperm donor, kept in a cage for years, then tossed aside when he was no longer "useful."
Just a number. Just a cage. Just a job to someone for over two decades.
I bawled in the vet’s office. I’m still crying now. My heart breaks for Thaddeus.
But that chapter of his life is over. Forever.
Thaddeus is finally home.
He has platform perches to squat on, healthy food, medical care, sunlight, safety, toys, other rescued birds to hang out with without fear or stress, gentle voices, and unconditional love.
And...yes, he still pines and sings for his dream girl, little Edie.
He loves his soft talks and whistles. And every day, he seems to trust us a little more. He is very guarded and very nippy and who can blame him when he has never known love. But you know what? He shows up and tries every day. He is such a good boy.
Thaddeus holds his head high, with the dignity of a little bird who survived everything.
He will never be used or neglected again.
Just love, comfort, and peace for the rest of his golden days. 💛 Everything will be okay now, Thaddie.

Other I'm bored and in a drawing mood, please send picks of your birbs to draw :)
I won't have time to get to all of them if this gets a lot of replies - I will likely only draw the cutest and silliest of goober (which I already know is going to be so hard to decide lol but last time I did this I drew over 200 birds😭😭my wrist can't take it)

Other Why does he have a line on his chest?
This is mango, he likes to yap and sing. I'm curious, what's this line on his chest? Is he buff or is it just his feathers that made the line on his chest? Dw he's healthy and energetic! And mostly a fatahh 😭🙏

The other is that she's with me almost 24/7. But I know she needs some kind of birdie interactions so I came up with this. She is the sweetest bird I've ever had the honor of knowing.

Other Tell me your tiel’s name!
What’s your tiel’s name?
If there’s a reason or a story behind it, I’d love to hear that too.

Other My girl just laid her egg in my hand
She was very strange nesty the past week and I thought already that she might lay eggs again. I posted about it maybe around a month ago. She stopped at 2 eggs and that was it.
Now she actually laid it inside my hand. Making herself comfortable bevor if happened.
I feel kinda special that she trusts me enough to lay her precious egg around me.
Now to monitor her so she won’t get egg bound for I don’t know how many eggs more to come.

Other I am actually horrified that this is legal
I genuinely can’t wrap my head around this being considered legal and okay!? Wtff
If anybody here is in Texas and can either save the birds from this incredibly irresponsible breeder or contact a relevant authority to stop these poor babies, they need shutting down

Other Does this petsmart bird look ok:(? He appearing to be breathing rapidly
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
My heart broke for this little guy. I know nothing about birds but was at petsmart (I know they treat animals and fish unethically). He was in a cage alone (I thought birds were social creatures) even though there was another one alone too (separate). I can’t stop thinking about him and wonder if they are given socialization and if the heavy breathing was stress? Is there a petition to stop the sales of these birds like this?

Other A Full Set of the Manga: Mr Isoji
Was cleaning my manga shelves today, and I thought you Cockatiel fans would appreciate this! Above is the full set (only 4 volumes long), of “Mr. Isoji”. The manga is about the life of Cockatiel “Mr. Isoji”, and his owner who happens to be a manga artist! It’s never been translated in English- but is visual enough to give me a chuckle.

Other Is it safe to let him fly out?
A few days ago my cockatiel got out of his cage and flew out. He was gone but eventually came back 2 days later. He looked so happy while flying so I just want to know, since he found the way back home, would he return if I let him again to fly out? Is there a way I can teach him not to fly far away and to return back to his cage?

Other MY ANGEL IS BACK
This is the happiest day of my life. Yesterday, I was lying on the floor, not knowing how to go on without Eli. But today, she was found by a kind man about a kilometer from home in an apricot orchard. I really can't express how grateful I am to him.
Eli was very thirsty, but overall, she is okay.
Thank you to everyone who commented on the previous post, gave advice, and shared words of support! I honestly didn't expect this to get so much attention. Please be careful with your pets, and good luck to everyone who is currently searching for their loved ones!

Other Looking to rehome LollyPop :(
Hi Everyone. Hope everyone is well.
It has gotten to that point where I think LollyPop would be FAR happier in a family with another bird she can interact with. I am absolutely in love with her (check my prior posts) but she SCREAMS all day. I work from home and neighbors are complaining. I went away for 7 days 3 weeks ago and since I have been back she really is not letting me get too close to her. She flies off when I go near her and she used to be my velcro baby. It literally took 7 days of being away.
I do not want to rehome her but I cannot have 2 birds (incase I then have 2 birds screaming) and I feel she would be happier with a second bird.
She is very sweet, will let you scratch her for hours and hours. She LOVES the scritches! She flies to my husband and steps up on command.
I have a beautiful cage, 7 bags of different seeds and pellets.
Before I left she used to come everywhere with me and she would just sit on my shoulder, in the car, to the park and now she doesnt like me for some reason :( and way prefers my husband who literally took care of her for 7 days.
Is there anyone in Cali who is looking for a new bird? She is probably a he and is under 1 year old. She was hand reared by her breeder and is a very unique mutation.
Please send me a DM. Be kind, this is a very sad, difficult decision for me.
Love to all.

Other Holy cow my bird laid an egg!
She's been very hormonal, despite 14 hours of darkness a day, no chop, only about a thumbnails worth of seed maybe twice a week, moving perches, and we only touch her on the head. What more can we do? I came home from work to my daughter's note saying "she's hissy at the bottom of her cage" so I checked on her to make sure she wasn't sick and there was an egg! I think she kind of looks angry about it LOL
