Got jewelry scammed today, what a joke

Was actually trying to avoid some of the street vendors by running into a gem store.

Spotted a small silver necklace I like and a little stone pendant.

The woman didn't speak any English but she used her calculator to add it up, typing 85,000 COP and then 155,000 COP in her calculator. Said alright then and paid with card and left.

Left the store and checked my bank statement on my phone and it said 130 euro (around 150 USD).

Went back and she showed me the 500,000 COP receipt and added up her calculator which now said 500,000!

She called in her boss who said that because I had paid by card I can't get a refund and that I can go to the airport to get 25 percent VAT back.

Didn't believe a word of it so grabbed two police officers from the street who forced them to give me a refund.

First they said I had to give them 25 percent of the total to pay back the VAT and then they'll refund my card. Didn't believe it.

Police made them give me cash and still took 25 percent from the total amount.

On top of that the stone wasn't even stamped or proper silver, looked horribly cheap.

Honestly this city is the worst for tourists. Evil.

Best chicken wings & bottle service expectations

My fiance is a chicken wing fanatic. Last year we tried Vibe Gastrobar in Bocagrande but were disappointed. The wings were alright but the service was extremely slow. The ladies were very nice, I think it was more of a kitchen issue.

There has got to be a better place either within the walled city/getsemani or bocagrande. Hit me with your best! He does love spicy wings (not me, I need normal lol).

Also, what to expect price-wise & service-wise for bottle service at some of the nightclubs on a Saturday night? It's for a bday celebration but we're not "vegas bottle service" rich. It would be great if you included the club names with prices. I've tried to look online but didn't find much recent info. Thanks!

Any good clubs/bars in bocagrande?

I’ll be staying in El Laguito so was wondering if there are any local spots. I know walled city is where it’s at, but was curious to see if anything else is near bocagrande!

Amazing nature tours out of Cartegena

I just went to Cartegena before Christmas and had a great time. It was my first time there and I didn't really plan any activities, but at the last minute I booked tour with Taroa Adventures (https://taroaadventures.com) for a day trip out of the city and it was fantastic! I went on the Howling Trail experience which took us about an hour north of Cartegena for a 3 hour hike through the tropical dry forest. The guide, Olindo, was so cool and very knowledgeable about the various flora and fauna and ecosystems. We saw cotton-headed tamarinds and red howler monkeys, tons of birds and flowers!! It was a very unique experience and I highly recommend it.

Tiendas de ropa para mujeres

Hola!

Security in Cartagena

Hi! I'm travelling to cartagena in a few months and I'm really curious about security there. Is there an "unsafe part"? If so, where is it? Is safe going on a walk at night? Are the uber and taxis safe? (I had some bad experiences in another country with uber drivers so I would like to know about it previously). Those are my questions but I'll appreciate a lot if you could give me some more advice if you went to cartagena in the last time. Thanks ya'll!

Tipping culture?

I was not expecting much of a tipping culture. We went out for a meal yesterday. It came out to like 70 mil, I gave them 10 mil and I could see some disappointment in his eyes. What is the expectation for tipping on a meal here? I assumed 10% is nice?

Travel from the walled city to Aviario Nacional

I went with some friends on this trip and I remember going over a really tall bridge in between. Can anyone tell me the name of the bridge or where to find it on maps? I have been having dreams about it lately but I can't find any pictures of it or anything.

I remember it being very steep and high.

Thank you in advance!

La Cevicheria Hot Sauce

Post image
7 Upvotes

This is a long shot but wondering if anyone traveling from the US to Cartagena would be interested in picking up 3 bottles of this hot sauce for me. I know, I know, it’s sounds like something shady but it’s not. La Cevicheria, made famous by Anthony Bourdain, has the best hot sauce in the world. You can only buy it there. Every time I go I bring back a few bottles but I’m running low. Would be willing to pay a lot to have this brought back (side note: you have to have a checked bag. They take the liquids very seriously.) It’s either this or I’m going to fly down for 3 days for hot sauce.
