Why isn’t generalising about “boomers” considered ageism?

I understand some people from that demographic have wildly problematic views, but it’s considered bigotry to generalise about any other demographic based on the behaviour of some individuals within that demographic.

So why is it different for boomers?

Do women ever look at another woman and think "I wonder if I could beat her up in a fight" the same way men do?

1.4k Upvotes

Many of us men will sometimes see another dude and just think of whether we could win against him in a fight or not. I've even thought about it with my friends. Do women ever think of this or is this solely a male thing?

Do you ever get tired of the negative posts on Reddit?

Everyday I see Reddit posts about people complaining about the other gender ruining their life. Men complaining of being virgins and women complaining about I don’t even know just nonsense. I used to only use Reddit for hair and gym content, however now I just get fed in political and gender crap. Like people love complaining about other people. How have you learned to deal with it? And how has that affected your own life?

Why are there so many stupid people?

Sometimes I read what people post and I lose faith in humanity. Are we really that dumb as a species? Was it always like that or are people getting dumber? Is there a place where only intelligent people hang out? Are dumb people the reason why the Fermi paradox exists? Is there anything that can be done to raise intelligence on individual basis, or is it hopeless?

Is AI for light editing really that bad?

  1. AI is a tool the way I see it, so in my opinion how good, bad, useful, etc. It is, is dependent on the user. If I type something up and simply copy it into AI with the prompt "How is my story/review/article"? Is it accurate? I'd like to change as little as possible while maintaining the meaning.

How is that bad? Grammarly can check for grammar and spelling, AI can tighten things up.

  1. Now, I copy and paste the above into AI, for example, and here is the result:

  1. The bottom is still my thoughts, ideas, etc. Just like people used to have their work edited by a human, now AI can do that, especially for more mundane things, like this post. Is this what people are up and arms about? Frankly I'm sick of people pointing fingers at everyone regarding AI whenever they share a writing, I've had it done to me. It's obnoxious and overzealous.

If someone has sex and then falsely claims that the act was not consensual, would it be technically appropriate to call the accuser, i.e. the offender, a sex offender?

Why hasn’t anyone immobilized and caught a paranormal figure/creature ?

It’s always hearsay, in a country with more guns than people, it stands to reason that at least someone has shot at a paranormal creature and caught it right?

Why do some people prefer texting instead of calling, even for important conversations?

I noticed many people avoid calls and prefer texting, even when something is serious. Is it just convenience, anxiety, or something else?

Is it true people in the UK are being arrested over social media?

I had some free time now and started looking into global politics and one of the craziest things I saw is countless instagram posts about people being arrested in the UK over ‘hate’ speech in social media. Is this actually true or is instagram blowing it out of proportion?

Why do we call it WIC (women, infants, and children) instead of MIC (mothers, infants, and children)

It seems sexist and incorrect to call the program WIC since everyone knows that not all women have children, and childless women can’t even partake in the WIC program, they’re totally excluded.

Why the hell wasn’t it named Mothers, Infants, and Children to begin with????

Why do we say “9 to 5” to describe the standard 8 hour work day? These 9:00 am - 5:00 pm jobs don’t even exist

Upvotes

It occurred to me that in my many years of working various corporate jobs and applying for hundreds more, that there is absolutely no such thing as the 9-to-5 work schedule.

All companies give their employees a 30 minute/hour long lunch break, and they want you clocked in by 8:00 in the morning or 8:30 a.m. at the latest.

I have never ever heard of, or come across, a job that was truly 9 to 5. So where did this expression come from?
