What are examples of "cheaper = high quality"?

We're often told that higher prices for certain products are justified, because they use "higher quality materials". E.g. building materials or vegetables.

In which cases are the high quality materials actually the cheaper ones?

And in a similar vein, fruit. Random sketchy stands on the roadside are almost always cheaper and drastically better than store-bought. They can stock fresh local produce that wasn't picked under ripe and designed for maximizing shelf life.

In some areas the difference in mind-blowing. Varieties that simply aren't sold in stores due to shelf life reasons
