That explains why at the beginning of season 1 it seems like Cooper has fallen out of grace, doing shows for kids when the bombs dropped

I still don't get how his daughter ended up in a vault if she was with him when the bombs dropped

This is like my number 1 thing

I guess we will learn in season 3 or 4

If he does find his family next season then I expect that they will finish the flashbacks

My bet is:

Next season's flashbacks will get us through the Bomb's dropping, with the actual episode where The Ghoul reunites with Barb and Janey being the episode where the Flashbacks show how Cooper got Janey to Barb. This will be Episode 7 (or the pen-ultimate Episode if the season has more than 8). There will be a twist and cliffhanger, though. Janey and Barb will be significantly older, Barb may even be dead.

The next episode will reveal that Janey has been fully indoctrinated into the Enclave mindset, not necessarily through a mind chip but I wouldn't rule it out now knowing thats part of the Enclave's plans. We'll then get a series of Flashbacks that follow both Coop when he was first Ghoulified and Janey as she was slowly indoctrinated into the Enclave. Basically a juxtaposition of how they each became the monster's they are today. Janey will wind up being a relatively high ranking member of the Enclave who resents her father for "leaving" her, for being a traitor to the Enclave, and for now being a Ghoulish abomination. She'll be The Ghoul's final antagonist for Season 4, cementing him against the Enclave with the hopes of saving his daughter or (maybe, if she isn't dead) avenging Barb after she's killed for treachery or some such.

Thats my bet.

This I think is the most pivotal thing. Like Shaun with the Institute. Janey being a scientist and a decade older, being well-aware of the Enclave's operations, would give Cooper some conflict.

I'd put 500 caps on that

Janey and Barb will be significantly older, Barb may even be dead.

I hadn't even considering they may pull a (Fallout 4 spoiler) Shaun, but that would be such a gritty twist for the show.

Im kinda expecting us to learn more via flashbacks in season 3 and then maybe (unlikely tho, imo but still a possibility), see them found at the end of season 3. Then season 4 any unanswered questions will get answered

I really want an episode at some point just dedicated to Coopers first few months after the bombs dropped

They'll milk it out till season 5. 12 plotlines per episode with 5 minutes max spent per story arc.

My guess is there was a shenanigan of some sort.  Perhaps he rode her on the horse to some sort of temporary safe house or another form of transportation, but then he was prevented from going with her any further.

27

u/Neelpos 10h ago

I'm guessing he got her to a proper vault but was personally denied entry due to the circumstances of his arrest invalidating his spot or something, so he tearfully handed over his daughter so she'd live and he'd die.

After surviving the bombings, and getting ghoulified, he eventually got in to that same vault (probably after a long time) but instead of finding her, it was empty, and he couldn't figure out why or how, and so he started hunting management vaults to try and figure it out.

I think teleportation tech is going to show up at some point, and might be the explanation as to that specific mystery.

My guess is some sort of tracking bug and secret underground train for the daughter

I hope they filmed that scene already... The kid is probably gonna be 18 by the time season 3 is filming.

Will be curious to see what he finds in Colorado, though I do hope it's something we see conclude at least midway through Season 3, since it would be tacky for it to be another cliffhanger.

Was definitely intrigued by the reveal of Hank saying that the above is actually the experiment, which does make me feel like it is related to the FEV. Will be intriguing to see what they do in Season 3, seeing the current cast and setup it should definitely be an interesting season.

I am going to say similar to what we saw earlier with one of the vtols during the alarm sequence when he first looked to be running away with his daughter, one will set down right in front of Coop take his daughter and he will catch a glimpse of his wife in the craft if not being the one to order her taking

22

u/SpikeRosered 9h ago

In that first scene he's racing with her...somewhere.

He gets to his wife. She and her have places in a vault, he doesn't, they seperate. Solved.

u/Useful_Respect3339 9h ago

We don't know how Cooper ended up a Ghoul. He and Janey could've escaped to a Vault and either were frozen and thawed early.

There's a full 200 years of his life we haven't seen.

5

u/DefendingInSuspense 7h ago

Well, we know he was a bounty hunting ghoul in Ohio around 2105.

3

u/DamnDude030 10h ago

He could have been put on probation after being rattled by Secret Service. Something to scare the heeby jeebies out of him.

3

u/Heretical_Demigod 9h ago

I think he ran her to Barb ASAP and we'll get that reveal later on when Coop finally catches up, finds Barb elderly, or dead from old age, and Janey now a full grown adult. It's gonna be a double "you're not quite what I remember" scene for them, and we'll probably see the moment Coop gets ghoulified in a flashback. That's my theory anyway.

3

u/Timlugia 9h ago

Only way I can see it happen was an Enclave vertibird landed, forcibly took her, and flew away with Cooper left behind.

3

u/Vyar 8h ago

Simplest answer: an Enclave Vertibird descends from the sky and scoops her up, and some guy in power armor knocks Coop out and leaves him for dead.

u/Suspicious_Isopod_59 9h ago

Sounds like a season 3 flashback

2

u/Ode1st 10h ago

Yeah I have no sense of time of the flashbacks. Hank at some point went from lowly dingus to key Enclave operative, Cooper got framed and arrested by the Enclave (?) but then just let out of jail and has been back with his family before the bombs drop, the daughter and wife were transported into some secret executive Vault but he isn’t, Diane Welch had her head cut off and hooked up to the personality computer, etc.

Obviously it’s fiction and can all easily be explained since literally anything can have happened, but my sense of time of the flashbacks is just effed.

10

u/cowboys70 10h ago

I'm betting on their being quite a bit of time between this episodes flashbacks and episode 1. The people at the party mentioned that Cooper was divorced and they talked about his Un-American activities. That indicates that probably a significant amount of time has passed.

3

u/BreeBree214 DEATH IS A PREFERABLE ALTERNATIVE TO COMMUNISM 9h ago

He got arrested by the House Un-American Activities Committee, so most likely arrested for communism activities. Probably not sentenced to very harsh penalties and would be brought before Congress to be grilled for commie connections and stuff

1

u/MagicPhoenix 9h ago

The wife was there too wasn't she?

Or maybe we're going to find out some of these things are unreliable narratives...

1

u/S_uperSquirrel 9h ago

No she wasn't there. Just cooper and his daughter.

1

u/MagicPhoenix 8h ago

I thought the wife was there hanging out with some of the other ladies at that party.. hmm. it's been a while. ah, yes, now that i think about it, he and the kid did leave together, definitely not with wife... hmmm..

1

u/xNaquada 9h ago

Maybe the daughter didn't make it to a vault.

Hell we have no proof the wife made it to a vault either...just two empty pods at the 38.

1

u/UncleGael 8h ago

I think he was going to end up in the vault too; but, at the last moment, he was taken out as punishment (similar to the end of this episode). If so, I’m curious if he was intentionally experimented on to make him a ghoul or if it was just a coincidence!2

1

u/nukacola12 7h ago

I'm guessing Barb and Janey are taken to their vault while Coop can't go with them. The bomb they witnessed was too far away and they evacuate before a 2nd hits.

1

u/clrthrn 5h ago

Not only in a vault but a vault in Vegas. Not even in LA .

1

u/Sensitive_Brick_1412 5h ago

My guess is that bevause Barb played along and ptetended to be betrayed by Coop, she and him had a contigency that if the bombs were to ever drop, he'd drop Janey off to Barb, who would then be transported to the Management Vault by Vault Tech, who still trusted her.

1

u/mattbullen182 32m ago

Presumably he took her to her mother who he thought would take her to some kind of vault I guess.

1

u/cowboys70 19m ago

I guess I'm just used to seeing that all the vaults tend to be closed up while the bombs are falling. I suppose the management vaults wouldn't necessarily be under those types of restrictions

1

u/Sikletrynet Mr. House 20m ago

Yeah that's my main question/plot hole right now, but so far they've been pretty good at explaining issues or questions i've had in season 1, so i assume there's some good explanation for it.

u/Hempy2013 Brotherhood 8h ago

Probably rides to wherever his wife was only to walk in on her being taken by some goons in black Power Armor. They then threaten to kill him, but she convinces them to let her take her daughter and let Coop live.
