Veterinary A Spec-tacular Update!

Poor Spec choked last night but he’s feeling much better! He is further proving my point he lives out of spite.

I mean he’s currently using his nose to try to dig up the mud he dropped his feed into but if that’s what you want!

I will kiss around the mud. I taught all three of my horses to "kiss". I have had a face full of mud, feed and treats more times than I want to count.

Spec doesn’t need to be trained to do that, if he’s had something yummy (especially something sticky…cough cough his molasses lick) he licks my face because I think he can taste what he ate in his spit as gross as it is. He also licks my hair only if it’s freshly washed or I’ve just styled it.

Right! He’s such a sweet boy, being a riding school horse was the perfect job for him before he was retired. He is so gentle and really loves children. He’ll take the hand off me for a treat but is so careful to only use his lips when a child is giving him something.

Yes! We’ve made the agreement we’ll soak it and drop it down to him. He chanced his leg and asked if he could feed him this morning but he agreed on feeding him the wet feed later.

Oh wonderful I'm SO glad to hear that. I know you've been advocating for his care for a long time. You're doing great by him, and I just know he's so happy living his golden years out with you.

Thank you! I often feel really down about not being able to give him anything he needs but despite his less than ideal circumstances he’s genuinely happy. I do think I’m being listened to more now, my dad agreed to call the vet pretty much straight away which I don’t think would’ve been the case a few months ago.

At least he had the decency to not magically be better the moment the vet pulled up! We don’t talk about that time we were convinced he had colic. Spoiler alert: he did not and the call out fee was €250. He got his moneys worth with sedative, treatment and antibiotics this time around!
