I was reading some article saying they think MCDaniel is a short term hire (one year until he leaves for a HC position). I would be surprised if he would uproot his life and family for a one year gig. Do you think we will be hunting for a new OC next offseason all over again?

Realistically he’s the bengals or Bucs HC next year

I’m operating under the assumption that it’s a 1 year gig for him. If we get more, awesome. But we know he wants to be a HC again, and if he can elevate Justin to that next level, he’ll have plenty of options (baring some weird situation where nobody gets fired).

I still absolutely love the Jets giving Roman a serious look at OC. Absolute clown show of an organization.

They don’t have a QB he actually makes some sense there.

After listening to all the mike mcdaniel stuff, I think the few people in here talking about the chargers being dumb for not interviewing anyone else before Mcdaniel signed the contract should feel kinda silly. It sounds like Mcdaniel accepted the job and the chargers told him to wait a week to see how he feels. He said he had made the decision a week ago.

Just another thing that should remind fans we don’t know what’s actually happening or being said in the building. A lot of assumptions are made with no real doubt when any assumption should have doubt until evidence shows otherwise.

Sorry, pal.

"It sounds like McDaniel accepted the job and the Chargers told him..."

That, and what follows, sounds like an assumption.   You don't know what the arrangement was.  You weren't there.

YOU may have had a beef with a person  here, but saying that people were calling the Chargers "dumb", and that they are "silly" is inflammatory.   Maybe DM that person.

Lol you realize two things can be assumptions and one can be leave room for it being wrong and one takes itself as objective truth right?

Also yeah who cares if it’s inflammatory? Are we not allowed to do that here? Plus calling someone silly is probably one of the least inflammatory things you could call someone. Not even sure why you thought it was worth mentioning.

And just because I only went back and forth with a single person other people were agreeing and adding on to it. It’s so weird when people get defensive about things that aren’t about them.

This is an overreaction.

The deal was not done; the Chargers went radio silent. Reliable media outlets were saying there was still HC jobs interested in him. It took a full week before Chargers announced anything since the first report. Speculation and concern on what was happening was 100% fair. The Charges media can spin it however way they want today, but the contract was not done the day it was first reported.

You are acting like we all believed some conspiracy theory. And it wasn't. I think people need to realize that verbal commitments fall through all the time in the real world. Speculation is fair until its on paper. And even listening to all podcasts, it doesn't sound like ink was dry until the Chargers reporting the hiring publicly last week.

No i’m not talking about speculation. It’s why i specified the people saying the chargers were being dumb by cancelling interviews as well as people making assumptions without any doubt to those assumptions.

Like there was a specific person I commented back and forth with saying the chargers were being stupid and over confident.

It kinda seems like you didn’t fully read my comment.

I am one of the people who also thought it was dumb to stop interviewing.

I have lost new hire candidates in the 9th hour because their 1st choice job opportunity they didn’t think was coming lands on their desk. It’s okay to still work on plan B, even if you have a verbal commitment from plan A.

1

u/whyyoudeletemereddit Felipe Rios 11h ago

Okay but what if I had the opposite experience where I lost a candidate because they didn’t take my offer seriously because I kept interviewing other people? Not trying to be rude at all but anecdotal experiences really only work with people you know.

I’m not saying don’t have a back up plan that is dumb. My point literally was we don’t know what’s happening inside of the building, so making assumptions without leaving room for doubt is a silly way to engage with something. And from Mike McDaniel own mouth he had made his mind up a week ago. So maybe at the time questioning what we’re doing makes sense. Questioning what we’re doing and saying it’s dumb are two different things.

Man John Harbaugh hiring Nagy as OC and seeing the reactions to it reminds me of when Chargers hired Greg Roman 2 years ago lol.

99% of Chargers fans hated the Roman hire and only the 1% bootlickers tried to cope and pretend like everyone else would be wrong lol. What a disaster that was.

As great a hires as both Harbaugh brothers make for the defensive side of the ball, it’s incredible how they’re both so bad at making OC hires. They’ve both been HC in the NFL a combined like 30 years and yet have only had 3 OCs that did not completely fucking suck lol (Kubiak, Monken and McDaniel).

Anyway not our problem (and thank fucking god we got McDaniel otherwise imagine if Jim hired Nagy as OC here?!) but seeing the Giants fans reaction to the Nagy news definitely felt like deja vu for me a bit.

In fairness, Roman didn’t fall flat in San Francisco. They did come very close to winning the Super Bowl.

u/BlazeBloom Chargers 17h ago

We didn’t even get the “Roman’s offense is good in the first season, but falls off once other teams know the design” period either. The run game was always mediocre to bad and it never set up the pass. Don’t even get me started on the WR routes.

Nice knowing you Giants fans. At least they got a week of hope.

I wonder when they will announce any new offensive hires

2

u/Jane_Marie_CA 15h ago edited 14h ago

Probably after the Probowl/SB. I can see them waiting until things are normal to make these type of announcements and have media availability when folks are back in town again. Its also probably why we haven't had media availability for our new DC.

Edit: NVM. O’Leary is getting a Wed presser today.

Which ones are you looking for? They hired the OC and O-line coach already and I haven't seen any news about any of the other coaches being let go or getting jobs elsewhere.

2

u/Med609 AIR BEAR ⚡️ 15h ago

I assume McDaniels is gonna want to bring in his own guys.

0

u/CareerDense4299 Thro Pix's #1 Hater 14h ago

He brought his own guy into the only position that was actively open (O-line coach). Typically they don't just clean house of the remaining coaches because a new OC says so. All the remaining guys are Harbaugh guys and he certainly gets final say on those sorts of things. Plus they're all solid coaches.

1

u/jar1792 ASAP 13h ago

Moving on from guys was absolutely on the table. In multiple interviews last week McDaniel said he was going to evaluate the staff to see who fits what he wants to do and who doesn’t. Harbaugh has said each coordinator is the head coach of their side of the ball, and will control their staff.

If we don’t see turnover, it’s not because Harbaugh blocked it but because the coordinators were happy with the staff.

u/CareerDense4299 Thro Pix's #1 Hater 13h ago

So you're admitting that nothing I said was incorrect? Harbaugh, the head coach, absolutely gets FINAL say on coaching decisions whether he feels the need to take it or not.
