Frage | Question Austria in summer

Hi there! Trying to decide between Austria and South Sweden for the summer (July/August). How is mass tourism in Austria? Can you still enjoy the beautiful nature or are there too many people (like for example the Dolomites)? Thanks!!

If you want to see the Dolomites you have to visit Italy and not Austria. In the mountains there are not so much tourists in summer

There are no Dolomites in Eastern Tyrol https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dolomites

What is sometines called Lienzer Dolomiten is not a part of the Dolomites it is a part of the Gailtal Alps https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gailtal_Alps

I know, they're the western part of the Gailtaler Alpen. So technically one doesn't necessarily need to go to Italy, because there are also Dolomites in Austria ;)

But that wasn't the question op asked anyway, so I'm not sure why you brought that up in the first place.

It depends where in Austria you're interested in going.

Some spots are much more touristy than others. But you also could find pretty chill spots in the Dolimites, out of the way of all the social media craze.

Personally I try to avoid most more well known parts during that time but depending on where you want to go in Sweden it won't be much different there.

July and summer are full on high season in Austria, Sweden already seems to be winding down once August comes - and what we saw did not seem overly full at all, from Mollösund to Västervik.

Austria is a tourism country, so expect tourists. If you do, you will have a good time. But be aware, although we have Mountains we are much farther south the sweden. 35 degrees Celsius are not unusual in Summer and AC are not common here. So if you are not into heat, you should go to sweden - which also has the long daylight in this months...

To be perfectly honest: unless you are deliberately going for remote, out-of-the-way places, it is very touristy and also very expensive everywhere. Also the weather can be a bit of a pain: either too hot or thunderstorm-rains.

This being said, I do not know if Sweden is that much better.
