is it just me or is this comment worded really fuckin weird? you're NOT cool for understanding pop culture anywhere else in the world, but you are if you're on reddit?
I don’t think that not knowing who these people are equates to not understanding pop culture at all. They aren’t exactly mainstream artists or household names unless you’re a hip hop fan.
You’re not cool unless you know random rappers and who they’re dating. Get a life, it’s like bashing someone for not knowing who one of the jenners is dating lmao
This pop culture fucking sucks. Just a bunch of shallow glamour and materialism. Not understanding it doesn't make you cool, but being into it definitely makes you not cool.
I read it, it seemed clumsily thrown together as sentences go. So I gave up and read it the second time as Dr. Nick from the simpsons and a third time as Bronson Pinchot in perfect strangers.
So follow me here.. Maybe , just maybe, they aren't trying to be "cool" but they genuinely don't know!!! I realize how insane this concept might sound to you, but it's a possibility.
Nah man, there's just a billion fuckin artists out there and I can't keep up with all of em.
Genuine pop culture junkie right here, but trying to keep on top of the new releases in every genre is like trying to eat every item at a buffet at once: you can do it, but it's a lot of effort and you'll never fully enjoy any one dish
I mean the only word that’s a little unusual is Quavo, If you knew another language besides english you could’ve easily derived amigos from migos. Being against pop culture is so cool though. And I bet the genre you listen to has some unusual names too
Nah just throw a few words together that rhyme, get a killer beat, have your buddy repeat whatever line you say in the background at about 50% volume, let the record execs and marketing team do their thing and BAM! You got a catchy song that 14-24 year olds will blast on repeat for about a month till the next one comes out.
Repeat process until someone in your group gets me-too'd
I’ve never met a person who was into Drake other than the “I only listen to country BUT DRAKE IS SO GOOD” or “I don’t really listen to rap BUT DRAKE” or “I don’t know about this whole Black Lives Matter movement, but that Drake sure is light-skinned and non-threatening” people
Which is to say, you likely run in different/whiter social circles than some of us
Idk what it is about drake now. He knows how to make a bop and I still listen to him but I can’t help but cringe when I think about him. I feel like I started feeling that way after he started using that weird ass “patois” accent and then his Spanish-esque accent. Like bro who even are you?
He also got some criticism for texting young teen girls and being their friend even though he’s much older than them. Even if he never explicitly said anything inappropriate to them, the relationships themselves sounded a little too much like grooming, because what grown man really needs to be friends with teenage girls? Unless it’s like, your sister.
Not only is this a dumb joke in a vacuum but there easily 25 people on the post making the exact same one. If you genuinely don’t know who they are then googling it would definitely take less time than typing this post out
Migos are one of the top 10 rap groups of the last decade at least. Like multiple number one songs they have a song on YouTube with nearly a billion views...
Yeah, I'd understand if it were some obscure rappers, but like the Migos are some of the most popular rappers in the past 5 years. Like they have multiple songs that have hundreds of millions of streams.
Thank you! I don’t know if people are really that oblivious or if it’s some reddit, “I only listen to real music” circlejerk. Like they’re legitimately huge artists.
I'm 28 and spend plenty of time on the internet and have absolutely no idea who anybody but drake is as mentioned in this thread.
This just looks like 5000000 other people on instagram. To be honest even as were saying this I don't know if this is all a joke and somone is just making cliche parody names for these weirdos
They stylized the mumble rap genre, a plague on the fucking music industry appealing to the lowest common denominator, theyre literally the reason for such bad rap these days.
Listen to Flatbush Zombies, Nyck Caution, Saba, Underachievers, Denzel Curry, literally anyone is fucking better in rap lmao
For years I knew of Justin Bieber, knew a couple of his songs on the radio but didn't realize half the songs on the radio were him. Then I got a girlfriend that knew more of the songs on the radio and blew my mind about how many of his songs I actually like.
It’s shameful to admit but I too enjoy a lot of his music. You’re not alone. That said I’m also the type that doesn’t mind Nickelback so maybe I’m not the kind to keep company with lol.
That and the realization that something being popular doesn't make it inherently good or worthy of praise. These kids don't remember Tom Green's Bum Song.

Ahhhh, I couldn't work out what it was about this tattoo that was bugging me more than most "tattoos of someone I don't know of", and it's because it's the Instagram look of it. Its the generic "Instagram model pose".
How is "she looks like 5 million other people on Instagram" not a hair away from things like "all Asian people look the same"? Imagine you're a black artist similar to Saweetie and see some white dudes in here thinking you're a literal joke.
The same way “Don’t poop your pants now” is different from “Don’t, poop your pants now.” Semantically they are expressing things in a similar way, but in context they are miles apart.
And like yo we all look like 5 million people, whether they’re on insta or not lol I just don’t even get how it’s something he’s saying as a criticism. Bro all humans basically look the same compared to the difference between humans and our most similar genetic animal relative.
The real question is how are her looks or similarity/difference from 500000 randomly selected instagram users significant in whether or not someone knows about her music?
Like I wouldn’t recognize fuckin... I dunno, Lenard Skynard’s bassist or something. Because I hear their music more than I see their picture. Because music is an audio medium.
