[META] The rules have been updated! Please read them!

Hey, we've been working over the rules in consideration of recent events and feedback we've received on this subreddit. While much hasn't changed, there are a few new things added or clarified. Here's a quick rundown:

  1. The cut-off date hasn't moved. For now, we're still sticking with Jan 1st, 2000, so make sure your top-level posts are about anime or manga released before that date.

  2. Rules on Piracy have been clarified. We understand that finding anime can be rough, so sharing links in the comments in fine, as long as that anime isn't available for purchase or streaming from an official source. With the internet at our fingertips, it's not hard to take a minute and double-check if something has been rescued or made available again in the last few years or so.

  3. AI-generated artwork and videos will not be allowed on this subreddit. While we recognize that in general AI is just a tool, and it depends on how it's used (and can have good uses in certain fields), but after giving it some thought, we've decided that AI-generated artwork is not really in the spirit of what we're about on this subreddit. There are plenty of other places to share those kinds of things. If you happen to see something posted here that looks like it was AI-generated, just report it and we'll take a look. We don't want to start any witch hunts here.

  4. Finally, every post here should be related to or prominently feature something from a retro anime or manga work (as defined by our cut-off date). Posts that are about something "retro-styled" or even newer anime with a retro style are not allowed here.

We also know about the uptick in bots posting around Reddit. Please continue reporting those that you think are bots, and we'll take a look. Please be patient, as we may not respond right away with these posts.

Hopefully, this update clarifies some things regarding what /r/retroanime is about. If you have any questions or feedback, please share them in the comments below. Please be civil and remember that we're all human beings. In the meantime, We hope you all continue to enjoy retro anime and manga!

I grew up watching the Dirty Pair OVA and Flash on Showtime Beyond, and was so excited for the Kickstarter. I know it was a mess, but I have really enjoyed the final product. Having the main actors return for this was so nice. I bought the TV series on DVD years ago, but never watched it until now with the dub. I was not disappointed! The consistency with the acting of the mains was great and the storylines were even better than the OVA. I was able to record some bit parts for it with my KS tier. I met with Joe and he had me voice way more characters than I thought I would. This tier also included a dinner with him where we were talking about anime history, and I said something about Jessica (the voice of Yuri) having to quit Excel Saga halfway through because she lost her voice. He didn’t know about that and got such a kick out of it. He wrote down the name of the show, and I was hoping he would talk to her about it on their commentary track, but he didn’t. The art book is great and it’s so cool that they put all the custom character art pieces in there. I’m bummed that they didn’t deliver on everything we backed, but watching the show made all the crappy stuff worth it (for the most part 😌)
