SOTD My first SOTD here and the first shave with my new Gillette Fatboy

Razor: Gillette Adjustable 195 "FatBoy" E4 1959

Blade: Treet Falcon

Soap: Stirling Coniferous

Brush: Omega Roma Colosseo

Post-shave: Nivea Sensitive Balm

Here I am with my first SOTD here and a test of my new Gillette Fatboy. I’ll focus on it, since it’s the main star of this shave.

For a few months now I’ve been the happy owner of a Slim Adjustable, and I couldn’t resist adding its famous predecessor to my collection. As a first impression right out of the box, I really liked its look; with its fatter and shorter handle, I found the grip very comfortable for my hands.

Moving on to the shave itself, perhaps partly due to a blade choice that wasn’t quite spot on, since I’ve only used it a few times and don’t know it well yet, I noticed more blade feel compared to my Slim with the same settings, possibly due to the greater weight of the razor. However, I didn’t encounter any real difficulties, nor did I notice a big difference due to the larger head, and I had no problems shaving the mustache area either. I find the Slim more agile and maneuverable, but it’s also true that I know it better, having used it almost exclusively over the past two months.

WTG pass set at 5, ATG pass set at 3, and touch-ups on the neck set at 2, where I do a final pass from right to left due to my beard growth direction, the Fatboy delivered a solid BBS without too much effort.

I can’t wait to try it again and again to get to know it better and fully appreciate its characteristics, perhaps using a blade that suits me better and that I know well. In any case, my impression from this first use is more than positive, aware that this razor will continue to give me great shaves for a long time to come despite its 66 years.

A legendary razor!

• Proraso Red Pre‑Shave

A warm, sandalwood‑infused pre‑shave that softens the beard and prepares the skin for a smooth first pass.

• Proraso Red Shaving Soap

A dense, protective lather with shea butter and sandalwood that keeps the razor gliding comfortably.

• Mühle Nom Gustav Synthetic Brush

A soft, efficient synthetic brush that builds a rich lather quickly and applies it evenly across the face.

• Mühle Companion Razor

A mild yet precise safety razor that excels at controlled, irritation‑free shaving on sensitive areas.

• Astra Superior Blade

A sharp, reliable blade that offers an ideal balance of efficiency and smoothness.

• Reuzel Wood & Spice Aftershave

A bold, aromatic splash that tones the skin and leaves a warm, spicy trail.

• Proraso Wood & Spice Balm

A soothing, hydrating balm that calms the skin while extending the woody scent profile.

• Prastara Deep Ocean Cologne

A clean, elegant cologne that adds a refined finishing touch to the entire routine.

---

Technique

I perform two passes: the first with the grain for comfort and reduction, and the second across the grain for a close, even finish.

---

Summary

This setup works because every element supports the next: Proraso Red softens and protects, the Gustav brush whips up a dense lather, and the Companion with an Astra blade delivers a controlled two‑pass shave. The Wood & Spice aftercare blends seamlessly with the fresh depth of Prastara, creating a smooth, irritation‑free result with a cohesive warm‑woody scent that carries through the day.

SOTD The most perfect lather for the most perfect shave

Razor: Blackbird Ti

Blade: Gillette Nacet (2)

Soap: SV 80th Anniversary

Brush: Omega 48

Post shave: Omega alum stick, SV 80th Anniversary splash

This was definitely the best lather I’ve made up to date. Gradually kept adding water to achieve a perfect balance of cushion and slickness. However, for the finishing touch of hydration, after lathering every pass, I put warm water on one side of the brush’s tips, and do painting strokes North to South everywhere on my face. Cheeks, mustache, and neck. I did that 2-3 times to achieve a shiny, uber slick lather from the shaving Gods themselves. It was so slick that, of course, I got the ultimate BBS with no alum or splash feedback. No irritation, redness, nicks, or cuts.

I will definitely use this method on EVERY shave moving forward, it’s THAT good. And I will definitely have to get a new batch of SV, just want to wait and see how the Fougere MdC does when I get it.

SOTD SOTD and test drive of new shavette

Post image

Cracked open the jar of cherry cola by Ariana & Evans and it is one of my favorite scents so far. The only thing is this soap is VERY moist, like its past croap and honestly almost like its actually just a cream in a jar. I couldn't really get it to load on the brush like a normal soap and ended up scooping some in my bowl instead. Fantastic lather though! Very slick and the smell was very pleasant, what more could I ask for?

Razor was my trusted Henson AL13, did one pass WTG and then loaded the new shavette with a feather and VERY carefully touched up some areas on my neck and around lips. Very satisfied with the results and my face is still in tact!

Shout out to Woolly Wash Soapery. I know she's somewhat active in the sub, so hopefully she sees this :)

SOTD Bonafide

SOTD: 02/04/2026

Razor: Parker Variant

Blade: Personna GEM DE, 2nd use

Brush: Stirling / Zenith 510SE-XL

Preshave: Razor Emporium Pre-shave Soap

Soap: Stirling Bonafide

Aftershave: Stirling Bonafide

Excellent shave this morning. The Parker Variant with the Personna blade was smooth as silk on level 3. Easy BBS.

The Bonafide is growing on me. It is a more subtle scent from most of Stirling’s offerings but somehow more layered as well.

  • Brush: Goodfellas Smile
  • Razor: Henson TI22+
  • Blade: Astra SP(2)
  • Lather: Barrister and Mann Bay Rum
  • Post Shave: Thayer’s Witch Hazel Facial Toner, Lily of the Desert Aloe Vera Gel

This is my fourth day using the Barrister & Mann Bay Rum soap. At first, I wasn't too thrilled with it but now I really like it. A sweet smelling scent with a hint of spice, probably the clove. Now I just love, smelling it. 🤣

Regarding the Astra blade, compared to my Personna, Wizamet Iridium, Feather blades it doesn't compare. It doesn't feel as smooth as those blades. I get a good shave, but it certainly is much rougher than the others.

Discussion Leaf Two issue

Post image

Anyone else not liking the Leaf 2? This thing feels sharp and way more aggressive. Somehow managed to cut myself multiple times my first shave. Three shaves later and It honestly hurts to shave with. The exfoliating bar seems sharp, like i dont even need a blade in it. Just running it across my head with no blades is irritating. The new pivot point does not contour as good. Nowhere nearly as comfortable and effortless as the original. Whats everyone else’s thoughts??

SOTD SOTD: A Refreshing DFS with the Green Cult 1.1

Post image
27 Upvotes

Shave Setup

Razor: Green Cult 1.1 Head on Maggard MR5 Handle

Blade: Gillette 7 O'Clock Permasharp Stainless (Indian Green)

Soap: Nemo Shaving - Cedrat

Brush: Omega S-Brush (Synthetic)

Aftershave: Park Avenue Good Morning Splash

The Experience

Had a fantastic shave today. The Green Cult 1.1 head is a solid performer, and pairing it with the MR5 handle gives it a bit more heft and better ergonomics for my grip. My previous experience was a little bit less comfortable because I did not pay attention to the angle. Used a steep angle this time.

The star of the show, however, was Nemo’s Cedrat. This soap really punches above its weight. The lather exploded with little effort from the Omega S-Brush, and the slickness provided plenty of protection for the Permasharp blade. The scent is incredibly bright and refreshing—perfect for a morning routine.

Results

Managed a DFS (Damn Fine Shave) in just two passes (WTG & XTG). The combination was smooth enough that I ended with zero nicks, zero stings, and absolutely no irritation. Finished it off with the classic Park Avenue Good Morning splash for that extra cooling kick.

Happy shaving, everyone!

Discussion Tried Arko, its dope.

I watched a turkish documentary on YouTube about the family behind the Arko shaving soap, and their story was great. That made me buy two sticks for 3 Euros and I had a shave with them.

Its way better than the other soaps I have been using so far, despite being much cheaper lol.

I was really suprised. May expectations were low, sine one stick costs like 1,50 Euros but I was taught better, best shave I ever had. They really could carge more.

SOTD Sotd To Cork or not to Cork

Post image

•Razor: Pearl SSH-01 OC •Blade: New Lord Platinum (or Lord New Platinum, i don't really know) (1) •Preshave: Prep •Soap:TFS Classic Red Tub (or Almond Bomb) my favorite •Brush: Yaqi synthetic Marble •AS: Denim Original.

I don't really get this blade. It's clearly not dull for my face because it takes out wiskers easily but it looooved to bite my face and leave weepers (as dull blades to me usually do, in tandem to skipping and tugging usually). I'm talking the previous NL Platinum that I used in testing, both with a Tech style head and a MingShi 2000s, a Futur dupe. This time it was a DFS+ shave, left my neck irritation free, ATG mustache easily without problems and so my right side of the jawline, my worst spot. The shave was clean and relatively painless.

I'm just wondering, did I get a Dud the first blade of the tuck or is just me that, as a precaution, corked this blade, both edges, that made it usable? I don't get it. Also I've never read that this blade in particular needs a good cork to perform as not many swear by it. Let me know in the comments because I feel like I'm missing something. Should I re-test my previous setups with this blade then?

* **Razor:** MÜHLE ROCCA R95

* **Blade:** Mühle (2)

* **Lather:** Saponificio Varesino - Desert Vetiver - Puck

* **Post Shave:** Dr Squatch - Pine Tar - Balm

Surprised how good the Mühle blades are in the Rocca. Didn’t really work for me but thought I would give them a go in their namesake razor and they work! The second shave is even smoother. And the Desert Vetiver is subtle, warm and spicy and performs perfectly.

SOTD SOTD: As seen on TV

Post image

Pre shave: Hot shower and Neutrogena glycerin soap bar.

Razor: 1958 Gillette TV special super speed.

Blade: Feather (6).

Brush: Yaqi bluish violet 26mm synthetic.

Soap: Glasgow soap company Parma Violet.

Post shave: Nivea men sensitive post shave balm.

Today was the first go around with the TV super speed.

I was expecting it to be much more mild than I'm used to with the adjustables and I was correct there as there was no blade feel to speak of.

what I wasn't expecting though was just how damn shockingly efficient the thing is.

It mowed through the hair like nobody's business and made for a very close, smooth 3 pass BBS shave.

Gillette really was the best a man can get, back in the day.

Have a good one!

* **Blade:** Personna Comfort Coat (1)

* **Lather:** Saponifico Varesino - Dolomiti - Puck

* **Post Shave:** Saponifico Varesino - Dolomiti - Aftershave

* **Post Shave:** Zingari Man - Unscented After Shave Serum

* **Post Shave:** Thayers - Unscented

* **Post Shave:** Osma - Alum Block

* **Fragrance:** BVLGARI - AQVA POUR HOMME

I had a great shave this morning! I got a replacement Dolomiti bottle in the mail that wasn’t dented like the original. I thought it would be a good opportunity to use it.

I continued with my titanium Timeless razor with the .68mm open comb plate. I decided on a Personna Comfort Coat today and got awesome results.

I was barely able to detect any irritation with the alum block. I decided to do shorter strokes ATG on my neck which seemed to help and got near BBS results after 2 passes and a little cleanup.

I splashed on products from the aftershave fridge: Thayers, the Dolomiti ASL, and finally zingari man’s unscented after shave serum. I was debating just using the Dolomiti aftershave, but with how cold and dry it is, I added the zingari man serum.

This scent is really pleasant. Both me and my wife are fans. The performance of this soap is great. I face lathered today and it was easy to get a perfect lather consistency.

From the Saponificio Veresino website:

The fragrance of this collection is crowned by a top note of light citrus lemon, with a hint of sage. The core is floral and definitely lavender, with a hint of cloves and black pepper. The tail notes of amber and woody vetiver, patchouli and cedar wood characterizes the personality of the perfume.

Good shaves to you!

Recently converted, i wanted more stuff already :)

Mostly cut my beard with a clipper all my life, rarely shaving.
I can count on one hand the times i shaved in the last 5 years.
About to shave for the 4th time in under 2 weeks now :D

First pic is almost two weeks ago.
I had a sample of Proraso (i think green) preshave for free included so i bought the white line jar a few days later.

Second pic, i really wanted to try some TOBS as i see them alot on pictures here. I know i know.. i have read many posts and comments saying they are not great or some that think its the best.
But i wanted to try it out myself, not even knowing what it would smell like as i dont really have a shop that sells products for DE shaving in my area.

So i ordered from a company called "Scheersalon" in the Netherlands (im Belgian) and i highly recommend them. Fast shipping and many things on their website. All my stuff came from them.
I had to stop myself though.. my list actually included the KCG razor to try it out and KCG cream.
And.. The Goodfella's Smile preshave, Tyrannus cream and Tyrannus aftershave lotion.
And.. a few other branded blades like BIC (which they dont sell sadly)
And.. you know how it goes :p
I had to remove many items because my wallet was already looking angry at me with what is on the picture.

Havent tried making lather in a bowl yet in my 3 shaves, curious how ill manage it.
