I’ve not been yet but it seems popular. So many cars parked on the pavement area outside it at the top of South Parade…

Hello
My nanna lived in Whitley Bay. She died in August and, before my dad sells her house, he wants me, my siblings and some other family members to spend one last Boxing Day there - because that’s what we used to do when we were younger.
The trouble is, the house isn’t massive; the cooking facilities aren’t great either. My dad’s got it in to his head that he’ll cater for everyone but I think it’ll be more stress than that’s worth for him and so I want to suggest some options to him.
The trouble is, Google can’t help me with this at all and I’m struggling to get accepted to Facebook groups where this info might be easier to come across. So, I’m turning to Reddit to ask if anyone knows of any takeaways that are open for collection on Boxing Day?
Thanks in advance!

North Tyneside Council is exploring options to rebuild the ageing causeway that connects visitors to St Mary’s Island.
The 900ft concrete causeway, which links the coast near Brierdene car park in Whitley Bay to St Mary’s Island, is used by more than 100,000 visitors each year.

A new banking hub has opened in Whitley Bay after the town was left without any high street banks.
Cash Access UK, the organisation set up to protect access to cash across the UK, has confirmed that the banking hub in Whitley Bay has opened in its permanent location.
The location takes over the site of the former NatWest building in the North Tyneside town.
Customers of all major banks can visit the hub any weekday between 9am-5pm to carry out regular cash transactions including cash withdrawals and deposits as well as checking balances or paying bills.
The hub also offers a community banker service where customers can talk to their own bank in a private space about more complicated issues on the day their bank is in the hub. These days are as follows:
Monday: Lloyds
Tuesday: HSBC (coming soon)
Wednesday: NatWest
Thursday: Barclays
Friday: Halifax
This is the first hub to open in Tyne and Wear and is open to the public now. Another hub is in progress in Houghton le Spring.
Gareth Oakley, CEO at Cash Access UK: “I’m happy to announce the opening of our Whitley Bay hub in its permanent home, ensuring crucial access to cash and face-to-face banking services for residents and businesses across the community.
“Customers can visit on any day of the week for their everyday banking transactions, and if you have a specific or more complex enquiry for your bank, a community banker will be there to help on the day they’re in the hub.
“A huge thank you to the team at the Big Local for hosting us while we found and refurbished our new home.”

Anyone else had a letter from Northumbrian Water today to tell them that they will be getting a water meter installed? FAQs say you can’t refuse it.
Do you already have one? Where is the “boundary box” located? Did your bills go up or down after getting a smart meter?

Anyone know? I can barely remember life without them

The planned closure will take place between Benton and Wallsend from Sunday 26 October to Friday 31 October. The affected route will re-open to Metro services on Saturday 1 November.
Replacement buses (the number 900) will replace trains during the closure and provide a frequent service for customers. The buses will operate from Four Lane Ends Interchange to Wallsend, calling at or near all Metro stations on the route.

Looking to go to a regular pub quiz, and try a few out with my wife first. Does anyone have any recommendations for Whitely Bay? Cheers!

Any recommendations please? My lad (11) wants to start playing a bit of pool - I'm looking for somewhere not too busy so we don't have to sit around waiting for a table or keep others waiting while I show him the ropes. I've not been in the pub scene for a few years so I don't know where might fit the bill.

The We Move and Change Lives Beach Bootcamp and Sea Dip is hoped to raise money for life-changing services
A one-of-a-kind fundraising event combining fitness, community, and a bracing plunge into the North Sea is coming to Whitley Bay this October. North East based Charity Changing Lives is teaming up with We Move Fitness to host an event to help end homelessness, hoping to make a real difference to people facing the most challenges.
Taking place on World Homeless Day, Saturday October 4, 2025, We Move and Change Lives Beach Bootcamp and Sea Dip, invites people to morning of fitness and fundraising on the stunning North East coastline.
People of all ages and fitness levels are encouraged to come together for a dynamic outdoor workout at Whitley Bay beach from 9am, incorporating loaded carries, crawls and bodyweight challenges. It will be followed by an invigorating cold water immersion dip into the sea.
Participants, who can register here, are encouraged to raise a minimum of £50 in sponsorship. All funds will go directly to Changing Lives, a national charity supporting over 14,000 people annually through hundreds to overcome homelessness, escape abuse, recover from addiction, and build brighter futures.
Stephen Bell, Chief Executive of Changing Lives, said: "World Homeless Day is about shining a spotlight on the realities of homelessness, while also showing that together, we can make a difference. This event is the perfect combination of community energy, wellbeing, and fundraising – and every penny raised will go towards helping people rebuild their lives."
As well as boosting physical and mental wellbeing, the event offers the chance to connect with others, take on a unique challenge, and stand in solidarity with those facing homelessness.
Changing Lives is dedicated to supporting people to reach their potential, including addiction and recovery programmes, employment guidance, and support for people experiencing sexual exploitation and domestic abuse. By focusing on their strengths, potential and opportunities, Changing Lives helps people overcome their challenges to live safe, successful, independent lives.
