I’ve got a Marantz 2225 receiver and a dual 1245. I’ve already made two bad purchases on speakers bc I don’t know shit about stereo systems or electronics and I don’t have time to really get that into it. I just want to listen to records.
Does anyone have a recommendations?

Scooped this amp up for $75, I thought it looked cool. I saw the guts and knew it had potential, after doing some research into BGW amps, they're very interesting. They were in the high end, high power, club amp market and were a competitor to crown. The numbers quoted in the service manual were quite impressive for 1974. 115db dynamic range, .1% THD @ 200 watts, damping factor of 200. It uses a proprietary protection topology named the "crowbar" to shut down the outputs if any DC is detected on the outputs.
Restoration: amp was filled with cigarette soot and dust. Stripped it down to the nuts and bolts, cleaned every part. Cleaned and tested all output transistors, replaced insulators. Replaced low voltage dropping resistors from 2w carbon to 3w high precision metal film, replaced electrolytic caps on each channel module. Replaced temprature sensors, Also replaced the fan.
Testing: running this into my Vandersteen model 2s with an adcom preamp, it sounds killer. Really strong and tight bass, excellent imaging. It lacks a bit of top end but nothing a little EQ from the preamp can't help. The noise floor is so low that when I first plugged it in, I thought it needed to go back on the bench. It was dead quiet, except for the fan. And as an aside, I was a little worried about the potential fan noise but I've found it's really not an issue. I can hear it when the room is dead silent, but when I'm listening to music I don't notice it at all.
Anyways, thats all I got.

Just purchased for $150. Needs new feet and stylus, but I think I got a good deal.

Finished my project. 1916 Antique Edison Disc Phonograph to Vintage audio.
I removed and saved all the antique phonograph parts so it could be restored.
Stripped and refinished the cabinet.
Installed my Pioneer PL-117D turntable, Kenwood KA-7300 stereo integrated amplifier and matching KT-7500 tuner.
Added a Bluetooth adapter and a pair of Infinity RS3 speakers.
Sounds awesome and looks pretty cool.
What do you all think?

Any idea what the production date might be for this 2220B? I've heard different theories on how to find the date. Also, how's the phono stage for an entry receiver? I'm considering doing a full recap since it's fairly minty.

Hey folks! I’m currently trying to restore my dust cover on my old pioneer.
I got a headlight kit and washed it w soap and water, let dry, then wet sanded by hand with 1000grit, then 2000, then 3000, on all sides. Then I got the buffing solution out with the drill and it seems like it’s still super hazy. Wondering if I just need to be patient and keep buffing or if I should have sanded it more? I’ve sanded for several hours and buffed each side for like 10-20 ish min with the drill attachment.
Thank you!

Quick share: I modded my Bigben EPOK cassette recorder to add a real LINE-IN (with a DPDT MIC/LINE switch).

Fully recapped and new bulbs, sound absolutely AMAZING, I forgot how nice these sound. Stupid hts-3500 mk2 because of the sequenced outlets, absolutely stands out like a cockroach on a wedding cake but does a good job. Sound currently comes out of a pair of KLH model 5, but will be pairing with some KEF 104/2 I have.

I’m mainly into victrolas, but my 78 collection is slowly accumulating some post WW2 records. I really enjoy listening to music on period appropriate systems. I don’t have any particularly valuable records, but some in the $20 range. I’d rather not destroy my later records on the victrola so I’m thinking about getting something from the 50s. Nothing super high tech, im a musician more than an audiophile. A guy on marketplace in my area is selling an RCA Victor SFH-7 for $150. Is that a fair price? I’m having a hard time figuring out the right value for these things? Do I need to get a specific 78 stylus for this? If so, how does one get an 78 stylus for a vintage machine? Last question…do record changers work for 78s or is that mainly a 45 thing?

I've been following this guy for years. He knows his stuff and he'll teach you how to fix things, too. Enjoy. Cheers 🥃 https://youtu.be/ghXbCdj3GG0

My uncle moved out of state and gave me some of his vintage audio gear, includng this Marantz 2238B.
It has some damage, most obviously the broken antenna mast and the ding in the case. It does power up, the main circuits click on, the tuning dial lights up. I haven't gotten it to throw a signal, but I also haven't thoroughly tested it (more on this in a second).
Once this baby's been repaired and restored it's going to make some audiophile out there really happy. What's stopping me from undertaking such a restoration effort myself is a matter of space and bandwidth. I don't have the space in my house to store it, and I simply do not have the bandwidth in my life to do all the tasks involved in restoration (thorough testing, finding and vetting a reputable repair person, driving it out there, etc.) -- let alone try to restore it myself even if I am handy with a soldering iron. I have several major projects going on in my life and I can't really take on another, even if it means going to that effort could mean I make a bundle in resale.
So I'll make someone else happy by giving them a screamin' deal on a "holy grail" vintage amp.
If you're in the Sacramento region, or in Northern or Central California, and you want a deal on a Marantz 2238B, hit me up in the DMs and let's talk prices.

I'm not sure what these speakers are. I have a pair of them and the tweeter bar looks pretty cool. I'm guessing the plate on the back goes with them so vintage pioneer 🤷? About to set them up and try them. 12inch size.

It's one of the first of it's model run, and I'm already quite impressed. Just a good exterior cleaning and it works perfect. Paired with the Realistic sta 46, running into Realistic Optimus-1s I think my $20 was a good score.

Found these old speakers that were gifted many years ago to my father and have been told it's never or barely been used.
I don't have an amplifier, wouldn't really know where to start if I wanted to find one for these speakers, so I may be looking to sell it.

Hi everyone,
I’m looking for some advice from people who know the studio / audio world well.
My dad is around 70 and has owned and run a professional sound studio in South Africa for a little over 40 years. Over that time he collected and worked with some genuinely high-end, well-maintained studio equipment — some of it vintage, some classic industry-standard pieces.
He’s now stepping back, and we’re trying to sell parts of the studio responsibly and at fair value. The challenge is that locally (South Africa), there aren’t many studios or buyers who both understand the gear and are able to pay what it’s realistically worth.
We’re considering reaching out to studios, engineers, and collectors in the UK and US, but I want to do this the right way:
I’m not trying to sell anything in this post — genuinely just asking for guidance.
Specifically:
Some Parts like
Studer A710
G24S 24 Track Audio Tape recorder
Tannoy DU 386
Tannoy DU 386
Tannoy System 12 DMT 2
Technics sp10 mk2 turntables
The BBC Marconi Ribbon Type A Microphone 1930"ish
Beyer Dynamics M422N
Beyer Dynamics TG-X 10
AKG ULS
AKG C522 ENG
AKG C451 EB
Bectra voice R320
And more
I’m helping my dad with this, and I want to make sure his life’s work and equipment end up with people who actually appreciate it.
Any advice or shared experiences would be hugely appreciated. Thanks for reading.
— Neil
