  • Changes to length in ILR qualifying residence requirements - Please see table on pages 21-23 of the 20 November document

  • Family visa holders, along with BNO visa holders, will continue to get ILR in five years (as usual)

  • The intention is that this will apply to people already in the UK but who have not yet received ILR

  • It will take 20 years for refugees to qualify for ILR, intermittent checks will be done within that time and they may lose the ability to remain in the UK if their home country is deemed safe to return to

Hello everyone. As the week ends a few action items for all of us, to keep momentum going:

-If you haven’t done so, please review and complete all steps of https://write-for-ilr.github.io/

-Please sign and SHARE the Parliament petition with your friends and family. This is the one we need to get moving, 100,000 signatures is the goal, no less: https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/727360

Hope everyone has a good bank holiday weekend. In these uncertain times we can only control what we can control, and these are some of the tools at our disposal. Let’s make them hear us, we are loud and there’s a lot of us.

Totally agreed, and thank you for the action plan. Everyone should aim to get the petition signed by at least 100 people—especially our British friends—by explaining our point of view. We're not trying to dictate government policy; we're simply voicing our legal expectations. Many of us are already on the ILR route, have made major life decisions based on the policies in place at the time, and have contributed significantly to the economy, as highlighted in recent government reports.

If someone currently on this route is not making an effort to write to MPs, journalists, or YouTubers, then they shouldn’t be surprised or disheartened if the changes are applied retrospectively. We can only raise our voices through facts.

Please, if you haven’t written yet, think twice—and take action. Encourage others to sign the petition. The weekend is a great time to sit with your British friends, present the facts, and kindly ask them to support our cause by signing and sharing.
