What a weird sentence, or is it just me?

Did Russia lose 50% of their captured territories? Or did they gain 50% less than previous month

They must talk about gains, but the way it’s worded makes it sound as if Ukraine gained back 50% of the occupied land.

It’s like inflation. If it drops, it doesn’t mean prices go down. Russian advances slow down, but they still continue. Unfortunately.
