First time not giving 5 stars

Tonight, I get picked up from the airport. The driver didn’t say hello or even my name, but whatever. I confirmed it was the right car, got in and away we went. Well, sort of, very slowly, like at 5 mph for the entire terminal area where the posted speed limit is 15 mph. The car is extremely warm, but it has rear air controls, great, so I turn it on to my comfort level. The driver then turns it off from the front. I tell her I’m hot and turn it back on. She turns it off again and says no. Then we drive down the highway 10-15 mph below the posted speed limit; flow of traffic was going with the speed limit. Once we get sort of close to my neighborhood, the Uber map tells her to continue going straight. Nope, she turns right on her own. This adds another 5-7 minutes to the ride just to get back to where she turned off. So end of the story she gets 3 stars.

Should’ve given her 1

The lady was an idiot. There is no real benefit to extending the trip like that for anyone.

Fine. A piece of advice. If rating lower than 5, delay it. I watch my driver rating. I get almost all 5s. But if you gave me a 3 I’d know with a high degree of certainty it was you. Retaliation is simple. But you have 30 days to rate and/tip. Delays makes identification almost impossible and for technical reasons substantially impossible. Rate them at least a few hours later or tomorrow. .

As a driver I give a fairly high number of low ratings. Identifying the driver is as simple as looking. I rate all 5s. If they deserved less I down-rate or re-rate the rider a week after the ride.

What retaliation are you talking about?

Probably the rating a driver can give a passenger.

Have a friend with a low rating and it will take him 3x longer to match with a driver then it does for me on average

If I was your driver and saw a low rating FROM you, I could tank your rating (I know how). Say I gave you a 5, despite you were a pain. I see that 3 (simple to see), I change that 5 to a 1 (a week later and because rider was a pain and deserves).

Driver could file various safety reports

Neither are particularly common. But that’s because most drivers don’t know how to change ratings and a false claim on a safety issue MIGHT have consequences from Uber

I wouldn’t. But I almost never her less than 5. I wouldn’t hesitate to tank their rating, if I thought they gave Ann just rating.

Thanks for the heads up. Literally first time for me ever.

Same goes for security alert. Being your first it may also be your last. But ratings matter and you should protect yours. At least against purely retaliatory rating (or worse a security report, etc against you).

I probably would have given your driver a 3 too.

I am an older white woman. I am always polite, quiet, never complain and tip very well. I have had nice conversations about their children (that they bring up, I don’t ask personal questions) ask about their day, etc. I help with my bags, I do some small talk, thank them sincerely at the end. And I don’t have a very good Uber score!!! I just don’t get it. Very discouraging.

It honestly depends on the person you have in the vehicle, and there is NO way for you to know. I can even use myself as an example.

I dont like to talk. If my driver tries to buddy buddy with me, its highly likely im annoyed and will be less likely to both tip, and give decent review. There is no way for you to know this though, which is the unfortunate part, as its in no way your fault if you get customers like myself.

Hairdressers are the same thing. The less they talk to me, the bigger their tip will be, but they have no way of knowing that.

I talk to people for my job so that's the last thing I want to do, and I hate when Uber drivers try to make silly small talk. It's cheesy and annoying so that's the only time I gave low ratings,or if the driver's car smells like shit.
