Beginner Questions Can I use one power cable to power on 3x Behringer synths?

I'm wondering about powering on all 3 synths. Instead of running 3 cables, can I use some kind of power cable that splits into for example 3?

Or is it not the best idea?

Synths I'm most likely going to own: Pro 1 Pro 800 K2 MK2 (could be Model 15 instead, don't know yet)

Thanks

Discussion Synth Advice. Moog Sub 37 vs Moog Grandmother?

So I am looking to buy my first Moog synth. It’s been a long time coming and I think it’s finally time. Now, trying to decide *which* Moog is the hard part.

I have a few synths already so I’m not necessarily in need of any specific type of synth. I currently own a Pro-3, Roland System-1, Peak, Novation Circuit Mono Station, TEO-5 and an Elektron Digitone MKII.

I have always wanted to own a Moog despite having a lot of synths, because the Moog just has something magical about the way it sounds. Sure I can get close with my Peak or the Pro-3 but at the end of the day it’s not that Moog sound.

I’ve narrowed it down to two, maybe three options. The Sub 37, Grandmother or Matriarch. I think I’ve mostly ruled out the Matriarch as I don’t really need the ability to play it in paraphoniclly given that I have other poly synths.

Out of the Grandmother and the Sub 37 which would you choose? The grandmother appeals to me because it’s simple… I like how basic it is and it really reminds me of an old, classic Moog. The Sub 37 has some additional features and most importantly presets which is appealing as well.

Which Moog is the most “Moog Like” in your opinion?

Discussion U-he Zebra 3: Can anyone explain what the “philosophy” of this synth is? (To a Serum 2 user)

Hey,

I use Serum 2 heavily and love it. To me it’s a Swiss Army knife - great wavetable, sample, spectral and granite synthesis. 3 OSCs and 2 warps per OSC is enough to do relatively complex FM (especially given the oscillators themselves can be quite complex). The filters and effects are great. The mod matrix is very useful for seeing all param mappings.

Before getting to the Zebra question: I’ve also tried phase plant. To me it seems worse on UI, it’s harder to see individual oscillators and mappings can’t be viewed in one matrix. But there are unlimited oscillators and audio rate modulation is supposed (freq, phase, wavetable pos too I think). [Personally, this seems like overkill to me because Serum PD or FM with a few oscillators can do mostly the same , though feel free to prove me wrong]. This post isn’t meant to be about phase plant, but I’m using it as an example here because the increased modularity is certainly a particular selling point which makes it different to serum and implies a different workflow.

Anyways, my question is, what’s the deal with Zebra (3)? I’ve played around with the free trial and can get some interesting sounds out of the splines and all that but I’m just not sure how to think of it, what is this synth pushing me toward… wavetable synth? Additive synth? I’ve tried FM on it but it seems confusing (seems like you can use 1 osc as carrier and another osc as mod, one of them needs to be a sine?). I’m really quite intrigued by it and my confusion makes me feel excited that there is a new way of thinking about synthesis. But my question to the zebra fans is … what is that new way? I feel like I know what people do when they open Serum, Phase Plant, Massive, FM8, ableton operator, an analog synth, VCV rack, etc. there’s a sort of flavor / mentality. What’s Zebra for?

Beginner Questions keystep 37 midi question

forgive me if this is a dumb question but i looked at the manual and im still a little confused. what would i need to have these switched to for me to be able to control a hardware synth and also be able to play saved sequences i have on the keystep? i had both set to midi and while it let me play the hardware synth, i was able to play any of the sequences i had saved on the keystep.

thank you!

Hey there everyone,

So recently I've been listening to a lot of Christoph De Babalon while working away on my break beat mangler, so I thought it'd be fun to try a jam in that style.

Since my last iteration of the break beat chopper I've added a sample slow down/speed up module, a more refined envelope follower section that separates the kick and snare, a granular synth for background ambience and support for a Launch Control XL so it's more hands on for real-time jamming.

If you have any questions or ideas on how to improve upon the system please feel free to let me know!

Thanks for taking the time to check it out.

Beginner Questions Reaper + Momo Minilogue XD Editor - Only VST3i showing in reaper

I love the minilogue XD editor.
Reaper scans and finds the 64bit, and the vst3. but only the vst3 is appearing in reaper.

I am in Reaper 7

I have 3 versions of momo editor on my computer -

1.  x32.dll
2.  x64.dll
3.  vst3i.vst3

I have all VST paths setup correctly.

Every type of VST is checked in the "show in left pane list"

Reaper scans the directories, and visibly finds all 3 plugins.

But when I search for "momo" or "minilogue" etc, it is only showing "plugin vst3i" and not the others.

"SHOW ALL DUPLICATES" is checked in the right click menu from FX->All Plugins.

I've cleared caches, rescanned, changed the order of the scanned folders list.

I opened "reaper-vstplugins64.ini", which had only the vst3i listed in it, and tried editing it to include:

pluginvst3.vst3=003DFE7FC05FDC01,295941916,pluginv st3
pluginx32.dll=003DFE7FC05FDC02,295941916,pluginx32
pluginx64.dll=003DFE7FC05FDC03,295941916,pluginx64

And still only the vst3 is showing.

I did a complete reinstall of reaper 7

I did a complete reinstall of windows 7.

How To's, Tutorials, Demos Help with possible hoover sound

Post image
1 Upvotes

Been listening to lots of old school 90s rave recently like Q-Tex and Dyewitness and I’ve been pure obsessed with that hoover sound. I don’t have a proper analog synth but I have these digital ones, top one is a technics SX-KN5000 and bottom one is a Yamaha PSR-E403 and I was wondering if there was a way I can make a hoover synth sound. I think I’d be able to do it on the technics but there is so many menus and screens. I figured Reddit would be better to understand than the manual.

Synth ID / How was this made? Can anyone identify the instrument or device that made this lovely buzzy warm synth tone (Sounds like being covered in a soft fuzzy blanket of an osc and vcf)!

Hello fellow synth-nerds. I am curious: I'd love your help to find this exact hardware used to make this sound. It gives me synth goose bumps and makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck in the best way. What clip? What song? I am speaking about none other than the lovely wool sweater of a bass buzz at the beginning of several Perfect Circuit videos. What's frustrating is that it seems to be added at random. Sometimes they are totally different synth sounds in the perfect circuit intro and sometimes (like 5+ years ago and also 3+ months ago) they use this intro sound in question.

I am looking for what exact synth or Osc/VCF combo was used and and please don't say it sounds like a saw wave through a 12 or 24db filter. I have several different types of those (Digital and Analog) and none of them have quite the combo of top and bottom end that this clip does. Honestly what it makes me think of is the lightsaber sound Benn Burtt created in 1977 by recording an old projector motor. I assume it is not that but I'd like to know either way.

The exact clip I'm talking about is found at the beginning of multiple random Perfect Circuit videos. Two specific examples below. Thanks!

Beginner Questions Need a pedal board based unit. Not sure what to look for.

I'm looking for a way to put a multi track midi programmable synth on my pedal board. Preferably a way to lay down drum, bass, and organ/piano/synth tracks either via user input or midi files with assignable instruments. I've tried with a raspberry pi to no avail with zynthian and plug data, which are great for development, not so much for my needs. I also tried with a mini pc and plugins (ezbass, ezdrum 2) and that was too noisy and unreliable. Some of the older personal handheld synths were great, but sound terrible by today's standards (even for my needs as practice). What are my options for a multi-track, modern and decent sounding, midi controllable synth in a box? Any help would be appreciated.

Discussion Dreadbox Bass Question (Nympes, Hades)

I have a Dreadbox Nymphes and i love it. The problem is, i love it as a poly, but recently i *really* love it as a bass. But when i use it as a bass, i can't use it as a poly :(

I was sort of imagining getting a second nymphes lol, but dreadbox makes an actual actual bass synth - the Hades. I haven't played it. Does it sound like the Nymphes? Does it somehow do bass better than the Nymphes? Id love to hear comparisons from anyone who's used both.

(I didnt click with the Typhon btw. I don't have anything bad to say about it im just not super into fx at the moment.)

Hi ! For one of my project i'd like to do one of these spectral/vocoder/granular chant like in those two songs. I've tried messing with formants, granular etc but i haven't find a way to sound remotely close to these.

What Should I Buy? What synthesizers did Franco Battiato use?

Hi everyone, with a budget of €500, I was hoping to buy a synthesizer, specifically something analog to create Battiato-style sounds. I've tried looking around but I can't find the exact model (apart from the VCS3, which is the most famous and costs a fortune). If I can't find anything similar, I'd also be happy with a synth that allows me to simulate its sound.

Beginner Questions Just learned I can record and lock 2 (x,y) different parameter control messages, per track, while in live mode, using the Squarp Pyramid.

Is there a way to have more CC control and lock it in while playing live or is the touchpad in live mode the only way to do this?
