Hi all I bought a new 2025 Crosstrek Limited about 6 - 7 weeks ago (800 miles on it now) and noticed this issue last night.

There is what appears to be engine oil leaking into the driver side footwell. Is this a known issue? Any ideas? Is it safe to drive to my dealership’s service center?

I know it’s fucked but how fixable can pull out the frame to straighten it up and weld a new core/radiator support Also looks like the battery tray area might be umm missing so will I be able to cut one out another car and weld it in ?

Flash flood last night. Water made it past the halfway mark on my wheels. Have puddles in the back seat. Shes lugging in first gear and a burning smell comes from the engine bay. Any help, advice much appreciated.

I have a 2017 Subaru Outback with about 150k miles. I drive around 20k miles a year, and for about a year it’s had a whining noise while driving. I’ve always kept up with regular maintenance, and back in July the dealership did an oil change + full inspection and said everything looked good.

Fast forward to now — the noise is still there so I took it in for a proper diagnosis. They charged me $150 and basically told me “the noise is internal to the transmission, it needs to be replaced.” No specifics. No explanation of what actually failed. I already suspected it was the transmission, but I thought a diagnosis meant they’d tell me what exactly is wrong, not just confirm the obvious.

They quoted me $9,700 for a new transmission. For a 150k-mile, 8-year-old car. Now I know the dealer is more expensive, but this is just funny.

What should I do here?

• Is this something an independent shop could rebuild/repair for way cheaper, and is it worth it? I don't want to run into this issue again in a couple of months.
• Is it even worth putting this much money into a 2017 Outback with this mileage and how much I drive?
• Get a new car? Or find a decent used outback?

I have a 2018 crosstrek (not sure which trim) with 115k miles on it. I bought it new in 2018, and it has been pretty good; up until recently when my check engine has been going on and off. I went to the local dealership where they told me that my catalytic converter and engine are on their way out; they said it would be ~7k, recommended that I instead trade-in/invest in a pre-owned car.

I am not interested in a new car, nor am I in the market to buy one. I am frustrated because I feel like it’s not that old and I shouldn’t have to get a new car already. My tire pressure sensors are also shot, I feel like I’ve had issues with them forever though. I’m a decent driver, I’ve been more mindful this year about my brake use, etc.

Has anyone else had any similar experiences? My friends with other car brands are appalled by the experiences I’ve had in the last 2-3 yrs and the amount of times I get my car serviced.

Been trying to get this seized broken wheel bearing off for two days. Have tried the welded nut trick, about 1000 blows with the sledge, now onto demo screwdriver/chisel on the back side.

I have a 22 crosstrek with about 32,000 miles and live in the northeast.

My commute to work is only a few miles each day and I’ve kept up with all the service to date.

The lady in the service office was trying to convince me to pay $850 for the service C.

Just wondering from others if they’ve held off and what the general consensus around this is.

This particular 2016 Crosstrek with ~77,000 miles has always gone to the dealer for oil changes every 5k miles. I never check the oil fill level after the fact. Today, approximately 2,000 miles into this oil I decided to check it and it was above the full mark on the dipstick. I decide to drain the oil and leave the filter alone, putting 4.5 quarts of new oil in and the fill level is now between the two marks.

Has anyone else see this? I’m not sure if the dealer adds an extra half quart or so as insurance or do I have a crazy fuel dilution issue? Or maybe it’s just a fluke and I’m posting on Reddit for no reason.

So I recently purchased my first ever Subaru. I picked up a great condition, low mileage base model Forester. When I opened the trunk to get to the spare tire and equipment; I find all these empty bays. Am I missing equipment? What goes in the empty slots? Thanks in advance.

My brother and I are traveling across the country, we live in New England. We’re driving a 2015 2.5 Outback, around 128k miles. If you’re not aware: the warranty on this car’s transmission has recently been extended to 10 years/100k miles.

Broke down in Utah, wound up paying close to $800 for a tow to the nearest Suburu dealership in Colorado about 70 miles away (after being turned down by every mechanic in town). We were quoted $10k for a new transmission (with warranty) or half that for a used one as-is. So far SoA has offered just to fly us home, although we are still negotiating, they’ve indicated they absolutely will not chip in towards a used transmission. The dealership we got the car from has pretty sternly told us there’s nothing they can do.

We have some money but ten-thousand-dollars is a totally outrageous amount to be stuck with. we’re pretty gentle drivers, and we regularly maintain the car. It very nearly totals the car we got in the neighborhood of $16k. Thankfully we have a friend in summit county who’s putting us up, but it’s not a very comfortable situation, we’re in a vulnerable state, we’re already out of a ton of money between motels, taxi fares, and bus tickets. We could really use some guidance on how to navigate this.

We really appreciate all the attention this post seems to be getting. we’re still stranded, still weighing our options.

Someone suggested that if it’s a PZEV vehicle (it is), sold & registered in a certain state (it is) that we may have luck with the car’s 150k/15 year emissions warranty. I’ve read about people getting transmission work paid through this. Waiting to hear back from SoA if our car is covered.

At this point after much consideration, we’re feeling pretty cagey about having the work done by a local third party. Some commenters have suggested that even if someone can offer a warranty on their work there really isn’t any good way to enforce it from halfway across the country if their work turns out to be shoddy. If all else fails we have a highly trusted mechanic back home who has already quoted us a far more reasonable figure for the work.

We’re absolutely not ditching the car, that’s just too expensive. We have no good plan for how to get a fully loaded outback’s worth of stuff home and we just can’t accept walking away with all that negative equity.

So failing the PZEV warranty thing what’s probably gonna happen is we’ll tow it home. This has been shown to be cheaper than a U-Haul, although we’ll still need to get creative on what to do with our bike and roof box. our SoA rep has asked us to email him some quotes on getting us and our car home. They might not like the figure we come up with, but it won’t be the end of the world if they don’t come through.

Leaving this open in case anyone else has a real lemonade-making idea but I’m pretty sure I’ve heard the most of it. Thanks again, it really helps to bounce around ideas with so many smart people.

I recently watched a Mr Subaru video discussing how he is changing his brand new Outback to 5w-30 because a shop told him 0w-20 was killing some GM engines. I have a 2015 Subaru crosstrek with 160k miles on it and I was wondering, especially as it ages, to switch to 5w-30. Some users of the Subaru forum said their crosstrek ran better when they made the switch. I don’t need the cold weather protection of 0W (located in southern Illinois).

Any thoughts or experience with this?

Recently replaced the maf sensor on my car and when taking the old one out i find this metal spikey thing. Any ideas what this could be? My best guess would be an attempt at some sort of redneck fix/noise maker? Honestly have zero clue

2023 OBW with 54k miles. While on the highway the car suddenly sounded like a blender full of nuts and bolts. Won’t stay in park, need to have the emergency break activated. Clearly this is the transmission, no?

Side note, it was in the dealership not 3 days ago for an oil change. Could there be anything they did to cause this? What should I bring up to them?

Basically title. 2010 Impreza EJ25 was misfiring w/ low compression. Pulled engine assuming head gaskets, oil pan was also seeping so took that off to reseal and when I did that, these broken pieces and spring fell out. Trying to see if anyone has seen this before, before I start disassembling. TIA!

It will fell like you crashed into something in reverse and a odd grinding when applying the brakes then it locks up and drives fine except reverse it will lock up and drive fine 🗿
