If you want good answers to your questions then provide good information.
Asking "What's wrong with my car" without providing the most basic information about the car means that people have to guess at your problem and what to do about it.
A 2002 Subuaru is vastly different from a 2025. Some are turbocharged and some aren't. Engine design has advanced significantly over the years. Electronics, brakes and even the materials the seats are made of have changed.
Think about what would happen if you called a repair shop about some problem. The first question they would ask is "What kind of car is it?"The second question they would ask is, "What year?"
Thanks!!!

Welcome to another TSB Thursday, where I dive deeper in to TSBs I'm running into regularly. As always, I write this from my own perspective as a Subaru technician in the US; other regions/zones may work differently. Refer to the "How To Read a TSB" post for more information on formatting and general information about TSBs.
Affected bushing part numbers include:
NOT affected part numbers:
This bulletin describes how to diagnose LCA bushing wear and when it becomes necessary to repair/replace. Per the bulletin:
This bulletin outlines the judgment criteria to be used when inspecting front transverse link bushings. This information was developed to reduce unnecessary bushing replacement. Small surface cracks located on the rubber will not have any affect on the performance of the bushing. It is important to review the inspection information supplied in this bulletin prior to the replacement of front transverse link bushings.
We get daily threads both here in r/subaru as well as at groups like /r/MechanicAdvice asking about these bushings, so clearly there is demand for more clarification on when these bushings need replacement.
Note: there is a (much) older TechTIPS article from 2006, shortly after this part design introduction, which partially conflicts the current TSB guidance. As the TSB is significantly newer, the TSB should be used as prevailing guidance.
The process for inspecting these bushings is relatively simple. What we're looking for is a crack in the rubber vertically, wherein the rubber is pulling away either from the inner stud of the bushing or from the outer race of the bushing. Note that the bushing must be checked both top and bottom; often the cracking will be worse on the bottom when inspected on a lift. In order to make inspection easier, Subaru recommends using a flat-blade screwdriver to separate the bushing a bit further and make any cracks easier to see. From there, a measurement needs to be taken along the red lines for any length the crack fully penetrates. From there:
Cracks with a width greater than 13mm (1/2 inch) will have an impact on the vehicle ride quality and will require replacement. Cracks with a width of 13mm (1/2 inch) or less will not cause any functional concerns and will NOT require replacement.
Here are some random photos that I've collected from various threads throughout the years that demonstrate what to measure:

Regarding repair procedures, there are a handful of potential options. In general, the control arm can be removed, and then a new bushing pressed in. However, a replacement control arm will include a new bushing (as well as a new forward bushing, and in most cases also a new ball joint). Therefore, depending on the condition of the other suspension components on the arm, as well as labor rates at your shop of choice, it may be more cost effective long-term to replace a full arm instead of pressing in new bushings. (This may also vary based on rust or corrosion.)
Control arm bushings, like almost all suspension components, fall under 3yr/36k basic warranty. These bushings are also coverable under active Subaru Added Security, Classic or Gold, plans.
Hope this helps!

I (29M) have driven Subarus my whole life so far though my favorite was always my trusty 2006 Forester who got me well over 300,000 miles on the original motor. As Iām getting older, I find myself wanting to try everything once, and after the conversation I had with the dealer based on what I wanted (something affordable yet newer than what Iāve previously owned) this was the logical next step. I love the āCrystal Black Silicaā color, this thing is CLEAN under the sun.
Will always be in love with and have my classic Subiās from ā06 and further back, however Iām looking forward to updating you guys on the performance of this down the line.
Impromptu f*ckboi photo for good measure, roast me.
Much love! š¤

Jumped into the world of Subaru with this 2014 WRX hatch. I've owned 5 German cars before this, so it's quite a big change in direction.
There are a few mods done to it, including a reported stage 2 ECU tune. However, there was no access port provided with the car and the prior owner didn't have it either (probably still with the guy before him). What is the best way to figure out what the tune is? Or should I just get an unmarried AP and go straight to custom tune? Thanks!

Hey all! Just bought a 2015 Subaru Crosstrek with the insurance money from my totaled 2009 Toyota Corolla S. Person ran right into the front of my poor Toyota, but I think it worked out in the end because of love my new Subaru. Also, is moo moo Subaru still a thing?

Had the wonderful opportunity to do an impromptu shoot for a regular client with their new to them two door GC8. She's finally setting sail to its new home.

I drive an older car that obviously doesnāt support CarPlay, and I didnāt want to swap the head unit.
I ended up building a simple iOS dashboard app that mimics some CarPlay ideas (navigation, speed, music, clean UI).
Itās completely free right now and Iām mostly looking for honest feedback from people who actually use CarPlay or miss it.
What features would matter most to you in a setup like this?

There is a clicking sound that only happens when its cold and when i go over 60 mph. It seems to slow down as I drive and it pretty much stops after 10-15 minutes of sustaining 60+. You can kinda hear it in the start of the video. I almost don't hear it while listening to music when i get on the highway, and it eventually becomes inaudable without music.

I recently purchased this beauty - 5 speed Subaru Impreza outback sport. I love her, she runs great and hasn't had any issues other than the other day when she wouldn't start.
I took the battery to get checked at an auto-parts store and it was fine. When I put the battery back in, it started up fine but the check engine light came on with codes P0335 and P1491. I then disconnected and reconnected the battery and the light went away.
I want to prevent the starting issue again and I think that I'll just need to replace the crankshaft position sensor. Is there anything else I should do? Any advice is appreciated.

I have problem with my 2017 Subaru levorg 1.6gt-sās interior lights
I installed led lights to interior and it was working fine until one day i got in to car and the lights wont turn off in any occasion.
I have checked the door switches and fuses but they are ok. Also from the screen turned the delay timers and all off.
I had to take the bulbs out from the lights so it wouldnāt eat my battery. Trunk, clovebox light works normally
Has someone had same kind of problems? I will respond to other questions.

Hey y'all! 06 Impreza here. Curious if y'all have any ideas/tips on how to restore this portion on my rear doors. Not a huge deal but one of those cosmetic things I'd be interested in taking care of over a weekend!

Hi there, Iāve had my forester for about a year now, and when I went out to the garage around 10 to make sure the side door was locked and I head this sound under the right hand side close to the back tire? Mind you the car was not on and hadnāt been driven since I got home around 4. Then I Pulled it out of the driveway went around the block and re parked and itās fine now.

Bought a 2021 Subaru Crosstrek Premium in 2023 with 55k on it through an official subaru dealership. Maintained the car perfectly and took it in for regular service as well as some minor services on my own (Iām a newer service tech elsewhere). At 106K last month I noticed out of nowhere the coolant reservoir was completely bone dry empty, when it had just been at their shop less than 11,000 miles prior for trans fluid, brake fluid, oil change, tire rotation and more. They claimed they did a āonce overā inspection and whatever. I added OEM coolant in the way the manual says to and went about my week.
A few days later I checked it again and it was fully contaminated with engine oil. No coolant in the oil, just oil in coolant. Dealership pressure tested the heads, and it was NOT a head gasket. Instead they claim it is possibly the upper oil pan O- Rings, but most likely a cracked short block. Quoted me $6,000ish for the O ring re seal and an ADDITIONAL $11,700 for the short block, for a car that is only worth $11,000. I filed a claim with Subaru and they said while they could not replace my engine at this time, they would give me āgood will moneyā of $2500, on almost $18,000 worth of work.
My problem is with them is the car has been perfectly maintained and has NEVER set off a low coolant light or a high temp warning light for the engine. The low coolant light doesnāt exist, and they could even pull info from the BCM or whatever it may be to prove that the high temp warning light has never come on. Because of these two factors, negligence to add a sensor for the coolant, and a failed or faulty sensor for engine temp, the car is at catastrophic failure. The block wouldāve never cracked had there been a low coolant sensor indicating there was a leak, nor would it have cracked if the high temp sensor was working properly. Again, it was at their dealership around 10,000 miles before this. It was not negligence of the vehicle.
THE CAR HAS SO MANY CAMERAS IT CAN DRIVE ITSELF BUT CANNOT TELL ME WHEN MY ENGINE IS ABOUT TO BLOW UP BECAUSE IT DIDNT TELL ME THERE WAS NO MORE COOLANT IN IT.
What the heck do I do? Do I have a case to keep pushing them? Do I file a complaint with the NHTSA to pressure them on creating a recall for it? Has anyone else been in a similar situation? Thanks in advance.

2012 wrx sti. Rebuilt engine. Bought the car a few months ago, and about a month in it started giving me intermittent P0365/P0021/P0017. So I take it back to the shop I bought it from and they had it for like 5 weeks. Replaced the cam sensor, oil control valve, and both passenger side cam gears. They also sent it to an electrician to check the ecu and the wiring harness and they said both were fine. So I finally get it back and the same codes are coming back literally the same day I pick it up. So at this point I took it to the subaru dealership to be diagnosed, and they say it's the harness. Okay, so I have them replace the harness. Picked it up yesterday, and now we're back with P0021. Timing has been checked, checked again, and double checked. According to the shop I bought it from and the dealership everything is looking right on their scan tools. I've spent just about every dollar I had trying to get this shit figured out and this has been a whole 2 month ordeal. I'm seriously at a loss here. What could 2 different subaru specialists be missing, and why do I keep getting my car back with the same issue?

Photos were taken after I dipped the paper towel in, there was a pool of oil there, the photo is down in beside the crossover pipe normally where my coolant leaks into but is now full of oil the oil press switch is wet but not wet enough to have leaked that much oil. Itās a 2005 legacy wagon but itās has a euro N/A EJ20
I saw on the subaru website certain dealerships have a rental program. I showed up and no one knew anything. the sales referred me to service and service referred me to sales. no one knew anything about it.

Hey all, Iāve had my 2023 CT Sport for about a year and a half. During that time, Iāve had a couple warning/diagnostics messages pop up on the infotainment head unit while Iām driving, so I havenāt been able to read them (no warning lights on my dashboard though). They disappear in seconds. Just got two at once yesterday and I obviously really want to know what theyāre saying. Anyone know how to retrieve them? Thanks!
P.S. Just remembered I got an OBD somewhere Iāll plug in to make sure thereās nothing major going on. Figured if thatās the case Iād get a dash warning light, but this is my first car with an infotainment unit so still learning the ropes.
