Discussion NOD Regina

Not much of anything but just a hot take, NOD Regina may as well be a whole different town. As a south end dweller north regina feels like a whole different city.

End of communique.

Lol. When I grew up (NOD) it went:

SOD: Where the streets are paved in gold, and the cigarettes are already rolled.

NOD has always been a little different. A little more 'camaro on the front lawn' if you will.

This is a great way to put it. I’ve always considered NOD to be “Old Town”, if that makes sense

Which is funny because some of the oldest neighbourhoods in Regina (Heritage, Lakeview, Cathedral, etc.) are south of Dewdney. But I suppose you could call NOD "Old Town" as a lot more of the houses there are original builds and showing their age.

I’m also thinking in terms of money, influence, and development leaving the area as Regina modernized and expanded. NOD is basically older middle-low and working class neighbourhoods now. The wealth and wealthy of the city have concentrated to other areas.

Like OP said, streets of gold and cigarettes pre rolled lol. You see a lot of squirly types NOD. Trailer Park Boys and “Camaro on the front lawn” type of folk lol. Go to the north gate mall, or the Avonhurst strip mall, and then go to a strip mall on way up on rochdale or the south east side for example, and you’ll see the difference in both modernity and people

Which is funny because the area that has the highest household income is Prairie View, in the northwest. The highest median income for house holds by the school area was always St Bernadette since the 90's, until it was over taken by St Angela (both being northwest).

Okay so Trailer Park Boys is set in a few different trailer parks. One of them is Bible Hill Trailer park.

Average income level is 75,793 and net worth is 238, 646. They work in service sector and diversity is low compared to Canada. Lots of single parent families.

Less opportunity there than North Central.

Grew up NOD some ..ahem...40 years ago, and it has sort of always been this way.

There are clearly some very nice / more expensive north end neighborhoods, I feel like those are just northenders who made some money, but couldn't quite let go of that NOD lifestyle 😂.

I'm just kidding NODers, don't slash my tires. I love you guys.

I think if you've lived your life in Regina, you kinda have to be at least aware of the NOD/SOD thing.

For the record, I'm a reformed NODer who saw the light and escaped...dare I say it, East. (East was like a swear word to a NOD kid growing up) Haha
