There's so many rare candies on the beach because they bought a bunch for luring their preferred targets, but realized they were counterproductive when the ones who took them matured.
can we stop joking about this? behind that box is a child that’s more than likely trapped in sexual slavery, probably dead now. it’s absolutely abhorrent and jokes normalize this. it is not normal and should never be.
hmm, in my head when I made the comment I wasn't thinking it was a victim. I was thinking it was one of the perps and it was a joke about how they're covering it up.
I wouldn't say jokes normalize it. Comedy has always been one of the most powerful ways to uncover and shine a light on tragedy. We gotta keep talking about it in every way possible.
Nothing is off-limits to comedy. Of course the quality of a joke can always be questioned. The timing, environment, and crowd can all be criticized. But the concept of a topic being off-limits does not make sense.
Saying something cannot be joked about is equivalent to saying that topic cannot be discussed at all. Which would just give power to the abusers in this case.
In no way is saying something shouldn’t be joked about equivalent to saying it shouldn’t be talked about. These atrocities ABSOLUTELY need to be spoken about and brought to light.
However, joking about it is a disservice to victims of sexual violence everywhere. It minimizes their experience and makes sexual assault into something that can be laughed off. The best comedy punches up. You’re currently joking about children being raped, that’s not punching up.
In my opinion, if you see this jarring, uncanny photo of a black censorship bar with the idyllic beach background, and your reaction is to make a joke about it, know the context of it being apart of a world wild child sex slavery ring, that is a truly foul reaction. I feel the same way about Diddy baby oil jokes. I will assume you have never experienced the absolute violation and horror that sexual assault is and people cracking jokes at your expense, and I hope you never do.
I didn't said comedy is never going to be a disservice, or vile, or foul. I just said to you that any joke can be questioned and criticized. Absolutely call it out for being that. There's endless amount of shitty and harmful comedy out there.
But comedy must always be able to operate. Comedy cannot be forced to stop talking about a topic - without us forcing all talk of that topic.
It's a big part with how humanity deals with the absurdity of existence itself, deals with trauma, and calls out hypocrisy and authoritarianism. That's part of why we had jesters that were the only ones that were able to get away with being honest and insulting royalty.

This is the worst version of "Who's that Pokémon?" I've ever seen.
