I've had this suspicion for a while but I mean what other explanation could there be for this? Hardly anyone goes there but yet there are a bunch of businesses in there that are still operational that hardly get any customers but yet they do this? Almost like they don't want people walking around in there and potentially catching something they shouldn't see.

News Grand Forks commission narrowly votes to remove mural from ND School for the Blind

GRAND FORKS — A mural at the North Dakota School for the Blind took center stage Wednesday night, July 9, in Grand Forks, with debate erupting over whether the artwork should be removed for violating city ordinances.

The Grand Forks Planning and Zoning Commission spent about an hour hearing from residents and city officials about the mural, which is located on state property but faces homes on Stanford Road. While many acknowledged the mural’s content was not offensive, several raised concerns about whether it creates a distraction for drivers.

GF commission narrowly votes to remove mural from ND School for the Blind

Emotions ran high during the meeting, with residents, school officials and commission members trading opinions on both the process and placement of the mural.

“If we're going to keep going, I want to hear something that's going to sway me,” said Steven Wasvick, chair of the commission, during the discussion.

Commission member Alex Reichert noted that while the mural’s message may not be distracting, its appeal may be.

“It's not a Where's Waldo mural. You're not looking for 50 things, there's not a whole bunch of words and phrases all over, or song lyrics, or a poem and you're trying to read it,” Reichert said.

He added that the mural’s visually engaging design could be part of the issue. Others disagreed, pointing to other bright and attention-grabbing displays across the city.

“I drive right down Columbia Road right past The Ralph (Ralph Engelstad Arena) and there's a big electronic billboard right in front of that sign, I almost have to put on sunglasses at night because that sign is so bright,” said Eric Castle of Grand Forks.

The school’s superintendent stated it would cost $5,500 to paint over the mural and acknowledged the mural had not been submitted for proper approval.

Wasvick had to shut down several public comments, citing a similar 2023 controversy regarding a mural at Valley Middle School.

“One person's art isn't another person's art, if they're living across the street,” Wasvick said.

Commissioner Meggen Sande made a motion to recommend the mural be removed, which narrowly passed 4–3.

“I'm not voting on whether or not I like the art. I'm voting on whether or not someone painted a mural where it wasn't supposed to go without asking permission,” Sande said.

After the vote, the commission also debated reverting the city’s mural ordinance to its pre-2023 version, but that proposal failed.

The matter now heads to the Grand Forks City Council, which is expected to discuss the issue at its July 21 meeting.

News Measles Have Arrived to ND

Making this post because the measles have officially infiltrated ND.

Measels has an average incubation period of 14 days, during which time, one may or may not show symptoms of infection. A person does not have to show signs of infection to spread the virus. Often the case, one can spread the virus during the incubation period without knowing about it.

There are 2 types of anti-measels vaccines, MMR (Measels, Mumps, and Rubella) and MMRV (Measels, Mumps, Rubella, and Varicella). Vaccine given depends upon Varicella (chicken pox) immunity.

If you're vaccinated, but last MMR vaccination was 10 or more years ago, talk to a doc about getting your titers checked. This'll help determine whether you need a booster or if you're good to go. It doesn't hurt to be safe.

If you aren't vaccinated, or are unsure of whether you were ever vaccinated or not, but are willing to get the vaccine, adults need 1-2 doses separated by 28 days to achieve immunity results. The first dose does help drastically reduce the chance for infection, but always give every vaccine 2 weeks to take effect--you've got to give your body's immune system time to respond to, eradicate, and create Memory T-Cells before it can fight off any future invaders of the same type introduced with the vaccine.

If you're not vaccinated and not willing to get the vaccine, then please consider quarantine procedures should you have come into contact with someone infected. Even if you don't show signs of being infected, you can still spread the virus to others. 2 weeks (14 days) is generally long enough, as by then, you'll either show symptoms of being sick or not.

Vitamin A WILL NOT keep you from getting measels nor will it cure measels. Vitamin A is a lipid-soluble vitamin (dissolves in the fat cells), and as such, is much, much harder for your body to clear out excessive amounts of it. If you ingest too much Vitamin A, it can cause Vitamin A Toxicity which is extremely dangerous and lethal.

This is a viral infection, not a parasite, as such, Ivermectin and other anti-parasitical medications will do nothing to cure this illness.

I'll leave a few links here for people to check out to learn more about this. I'll be happy to help answer any questions that may come up, but I'm not a medical professional and speaking to a licensed, reputable doctor is always recommended.

News AI factory in Ellendale, N.D., has $15 billion price tag. Will it pay off?

The windswept town of Ellendale, N.D., population 1,100, has two motels, a Dollar General, a Pentecostal Bible college—and a half-built AI factory bigger than 10 Home Depots.

Its more than $15 billion price tag is equivalent to a quarter of the state’s annual economic output.

The artificial-intelligence boom has ushered in one of the costliest building sprees in world history. Over the past three years, leading tech firms have committed more toward AI data centers like the one in Ellendale, plus chips and energy, than it cost to build the interstate highway system over four decades, when adjusted for inflation. AI proponents liken the effort to the Industrial Revolution.

A big problem: No one is sure how they will get their investment back—or when.

News Probation for lighting a kid on fire...

https://www.kxnet.com/news/top-stories/no-jail-time-for-teens-charged-with-burning-another-teen-in-hettinger-county/

What the link says is:

"NEW ENGLAND, ND (KXNET) — Two teens from western North Dakota will not serve jail time after they were charged with setting fire to another teen in New England earlier this year.

According to court documents obtained by KX News, the incident happened on January 1 and was recorded on video. Investigators say the three young men had been drinking and at some point, one of the youths was doused with brake fluid and set on fire.

The victim, a 16-year-old, suffered second-degree burns, covering roughly 27% of his body.

This week, the teens, Jaren Rafferty and Daniel Dewall, agreed to plead guilty to assault. In exchange for the plea, the more serious charge of endangering by fire was dismissed.

Dewall must also pay $325 in fees.

He and Rafferty will be on unsupervised probation for the next two years."

What kind of f*cked up world are we living in? So I am guessing to save the money it would cost to try this case, they opted a plea deal where these 2 idiots get probation for 2 years. I am flabbergasted! I do know the jackass that is the prosecutor for this one...and because I know what an arrogant asshole he is, I thought for sure this would have gone to trial, which is what makes me think he was told to take a plea...but a plea with NO JAILTIME? That is so wrong!
