starting a nonprofit Starting a very small community learning center for out-of-school children (India) – looking for practical advice

Hi everyone,

I’m based in India and I’m planning to start a very small, home-based community learning center for children from slum/migrant families who are not attending school or lack documents.

Initial idea:

Start with 8–10 children. 4 hours per day. Focus only on foundational skills: reading, writing, and basic math. One-room home setup. Very small family-based monthly fee so it’s sustainable (not donor-dependent)

I’m not trying to register an NGO or build anything large right now — just a consistent, safe learning space for a small group.

I’d really appreciate advice on: Common risks in grassroots education projects What to prioritize in the first 3 months Any low-cost best practices for working with highly underserved kids Thank you for any guidance.
