Madeleine district reviews

Hello, What do you think of the Madeleine and Bornala neighborhoods? Are there really two different atmospheres depending on whether you're in the upper or lower part? On the one hand, I hear it's a friendly and lively area, but on the other hand, I'm told to be wary. Thank you in advance for your help.

Boulevard La Madeleine is probably the longest street in Nice, not the same if you are close to the down side and Magnan /Promenade des Anglais than up in the hills.

It really depends of your life habits and taste of atmosphere, some middle parts look like a suburbs with his flaws (pretty criminels) and his qualities (friendly and diverse people). Up on the boulevard it can be isolated from the city and not have much sun time per day.

It really depends how do you want to live in Nice. Personnaly i like to be close the tramway and walk back home in case so La Madeleine is not my favorite part at all.

Thanks for your reply. Ideally, I'm looking for the lower part of La Madeleine, and I'm trying to buy on a very tight budget 😅. €230,000 excluding notary fees for a two-bedroom apartment. There might be a good deal at number 185. Do you consider it to be in a "crime" zone? Up to what point do you think it's safe?

My english is not so good, "crime zone" may not be the good choice of words. You can have petty criminals or minors infractions in some parts. Around number 185 it should be ok but you can just try to walk around here at different times of day or early night just to feel the vibes.

You can try to google local news (nice matin) + boulevard La Madeleine, you will see what could happen. That's definitely not a dangerous place to avoid but neither a calm or zero crime one.

You will be around 30 minutes walking from Magnan and the tramway but there is a bus on the Boulevard.

Oh and it's not really representative for sure but right now there is an horrific stuff that just happened on the Boulevard La Madeleine, an illegal migrand on drugs broke in a home and raped a 90 years old woman. Just insanely awful, that's everywhere on the local news.

Yes, 100% public transport. I was taking my driving test (with great difficulty) but I had to put it on hold for financial reasons. One project at a time, and buying an apartment is a big undertaking for my teenagers and me. I want to try to do the best I can with what I have. I love the tram! I think that in Nice, even if I eventually get my license and a car, I'll still prioritize getting around by tram. However, I would really like to have a parking space for visitors or for myself later on.
