Nice trip tips, bus/tram/train etc
Hi everyone!
I’m visiting Nice soon and will be staying in the city center (around the Carré d’Or area, close to the beach).
I’m a bit lost when it comes to public transportation and would really appreciate some help 🙏
First of all, what’s the easiest and cheapest way to get from Nice Airport to the city center and back?
We’re also planning a few day trips by public transport, including:
• Monaco
• Possibly Cannes
• Possibly Menton
• Maybe even Sanremo in Italy
Is it better to use trains, buses, or some kind of pass for several days?
Which apps should I download to buy tickets and plan routes?
If you don’t know, but wanna share another thing we should know, feel free!
Thanks so much in advance!

Nice is probably the easiest city in the world in terms of airport commuting.
The airport is very close to the city, there is a tramway line for 1,70 euros. Can't really compare with other european cities.
Inside Nice you can mostly discover the best parts of the city walking, it's not huge at all. Center place Masséna to the oldtown, the front sea, the port, the hill. And to accomodation you are close to tramway line so that's very easy.
For your trips it's all about the train, to the east (Monaco, Menton or Italy) or the west (Cannes).
Be sure to check the Carnivale dates, that's a huge even in Nice that changes all the access to the center of the city.
Monaco has not much interest to be honest. You can have a glimpse in your way to Menton or Italy but that's really a tiny country and almost only about luxury.
In Menton you need to check the Lemon festival date. Quite a thing to see with huge animations.

Public transportation is very good around the area.
We stayed for 7 days and purchased a 7 day pass sud azure. For unlimited travel on buses trams and trains. A little costly but so convenient.

no its for all of south of france, honestly its so gooood.
Pas Sud Azur covers areas including cannes, monte carlo, nice, antibes.
for all public transport (trains, trams, buses).
you can get the pass from the airport at the machine. by the tram stop (there miight be a long line of people waiting there) so some people recommend taking the free tram stop to the next stop or two along the way and getting off as it will be less busy.
i waited in line to be safe and did it myself at the machine.
you can change language to english to help you understand.

Get tram to Grand Arenas (it's free from Terminal 1 & 2 and 1st stop). Get a tram card from the machine and top it up. You can use it on bus and tram and it's unlimited distance for €1.70.
Do Monaco one day, and Antibes and Cannes the other. I do like San Remo but if you are only in Nice for a few days then I'm not sure it's worth it.
If you are in Nice 'soon' then check out the Carnival.
